[SPOILERS] Travelers Theme (All Possible Combinations) - Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye Music
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 26 июн 2024
- WARNING!: There are massive spoilers for Echoes of the Eye in this video!! Well, actually, if you're here reading this description then it's probably already too late since you've seen our guest here...
Welp, uh, thanks for stopping by and checking this out anyway then I guess :D
Btw, on the original version of this video, someone suggested that I should use gray code to organize the combinations instead. So I tried that out and so far I like it quite a bit better. Of course I did break the pattern once to get the last section (all instruments) where I wanted it at the end, but eh. For the most part it works great organizationally, so hopefully it makes for a good listening experience too :o

Btw the instrument the Prisoner is playing is based off the theremin, an actual instrument that produces a sound like that.
I wanted to keep the names instrument-related and not named after any characters so that's why I called it "theremin" and not "prisoner" :o
Thank you very much :)
Been looking forward to this since i finished the dlc.
I like that you changed up the order.
Hey buddy, I like your icon. This video reminds me of a movie I saw about Majora's Mas, great work. Regards, Alex.
I’ve been waiting for you to make a part two to this. Excellent work!
I'm very partial to 1:14:25 - Piano + Harmonica + Flute + Banjo + Theremin.
Nothing against Chert or Esker but the whistling is too much for me and ruins the peace.
Thanks so much for putting this up!
Before the DLC, I thought that Travelers was a complete track and nothing could improve it. But now I can't listen to this song without our owl friend
The first time I went to have him start playing I expected the kind of stuff you hear in the night area. Put him on with the guitar I'm like oh shit he is actually going pretty hard.
The prisoner’s melody sounds like crying out in an endless void, melancholic and saddening, as they know they’re possibly the very last ones if their kind while solanum’s piano merges very well with the prisoner’s. It’s like she’s saying “everything’s okay. It’s all over, you don’t have to worry”. Comforting and calming as they understand each other’s pain despite being completely different.
Fuck bro this game makes me emotional and you just made me cry 😂
I intentionally did just the prisoner and Solanum's melody together for a while in my playthrough exactly for that
@@jodagondrago8293 same
The theremin just feels like the cherry on top to the entire song and wraps up the entire thing. Absolutely my favorite melody.
Same TT-TT
1:26:13 Just imagine this: two distinct species with zero chance of meeting each other, now telling their story under the player's help. Yet, they fit so perfectly well, and it's just like listening to a totally different song.
This is honestly one of the best things i've ever heard. When you think of it like that, it makes me once again understand why I love this game so much. Outer Wilds is the best game out there to date. Period.
Yes, this is my favorite combo. When I first traveled to the eye after beating the dlc, I tried this immediately. I like to think that somewhere, perhaps 14.3 billion years later, The Hatchling, Solanum, and the Prisoner would have been close friends exploring the universe
I’m not crying. Not at all 😭😭
What gets me is the Prisoner's expressions.
Of all the players, only Esker and the Prisoner have visible faces, and Esker doesn't move much, but the Prisoner... You can feel the emotions in their expression. How they get fully lost in the music, closing their eyes and remembering a home that no longer is. You can feel the familiar combination of sadness and fond memory in just the way their head moves back and forth.
They play their heart out in that moment and (something I realize is an attribute of their entire species) feels the moment with the whole of their self. No fear, no hesitation, they embrace the pain, and the instrument in their hands cries with them.
I don't know why, but it's such a captivating thing to see at the end of the universe.
After hundreds of millenia in isolation, the Prisoner looks so happy to just be jamming it out 😭😭😭
When you realize Nomai were there 280k years ago make my mind explode
1:17:13 this, a time loop trapped hearthian traveller, a lonely 5/6 dead Nomai and a endless sorrow owlien tell theirs stories
A 5/6 dead nomai I have never heard that. That’s very sad to me
@@Endingpluto Quantum shenanigans are truly sad.
I CLICKED THE TIME ON ACCIDENT OH GOD THIS SOUNDS SO SAD IM ABOUT TO CRY
55:38 The Best one. Everything but the main melody, it sounds like a completely different thing centered around the theremin.
I agree, it's really lovely.
I actually skipped to that first, but honestly I prefer it without the drums, since they’re pretty loud ;)
When I saw solanum in this video instead of her mask floating in space, I was like SHES HERE
The forest is dark. Your friends are gone. The universe has died.
Then you light a fire.
The forest may be dark, but it's not scary.
Your friends are not gone, they were always by your side.
The universe isn't dead, a song echoes in the distance.
Song about passion, song about tranquility. Song about bravery, song about fear. Song about dread, song about curiosity.
Song about hope.
You'll have to go soon, but this moment will last forever. Let the music speak our hearts
"Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light."
Dylan Thomas
Good job, now I'm crying
Bro woke up and decided to write some poetry
Even at the end of _all_ things, there's still time for a marshmallow with a friend.
1:25:32 just finished the game, and I put these 3 together. I couldn't stop the tears, 3 species together in harmony, letting go of the fear. Thank you Moebius.
I’ve seen a few people talk about gabbro and how his instrument is very quiet and melancholy, but when finding him during the game that’s what he is, just wanting to play calmly and quietly
'I tried everything I could think of, and neither idea worked. I told everyone, but they always forget once the cycle begins again.'
Gabbro saw their own powerlessness in the face of endless cyclical oblivion and said, 'ok, well then I will carry my friends in their songs in the meantime.'
The probe fires and loops more than 9 million times. It's unclear when Gabbro found their statue within that. It's possible they have lived longer in the loop than they ever lived outside of it. But they have found rest anyways.
Breathe in, breathe out, accept what is, and move in peace.
@@MasterCrander actually the statues only activate once the eye of the universe is found so both of the statues activate at the same time also if you go to gabbro immediately he tells you about the funky statue thing that just happened
@@MasterCrander22 minutes X 9 Million = 376.4 Years
1:06:04 is probably my favourite because it's a song about three prisoners all locked in there strange cells some put themselves there and some were betrayed and misunderstood.
So melancholic, as it should be
tbf feldspar is just chilling in the bramble
you know, I was just thinking about it and basically all of the travelers here are prisoners in one form or another
Owl dude is THE Prisoner
Solanum is trapped on the quantum moon and the last of their kind
Feldspar is trapped in the Dark Bramble
The Whistling guy is lonely on the moon
Riebeck is terrified of space travel despite being an astronaut and stuck in Brittle Hollow
Gabbro and the Player are both stuck in a time loop
The only one left out is Chert (drums). I guess you could argue he's trapped in his obsessive research
Also they are all trapped in a timeloop (kinda) since the Ash Twin project keeps resetting everything by sending its memories back in time
@@4sythdude549 wasn't chert afraid of being so close to the sun? But stayed in ember twin to continue his research.
I haven't played the game in a while, but i remember it being this way
The Inescapably Isolated
Feldspar has no operable ship to fly; no way to get home, even if they wanted to.
Solanum only lives while there, under the reflection of The Eye. If she leaves, her quantum superposition collapses, and she ceases to be.
The Prisoner is, of course, imprisoned. For eons. Awake while asleep, with nowhere to run to escape the nightmare, the whole time.
But Feldspar found rest. Solanum found peace. The Prisoner found true absolution.
I'll never forget when I followed the probe out into deep space for the full 22 minutes. As the sun turned into a tiny dot I pointed my signalscope back, at everything. I could hear everyone playing, all at once. I was as far out as I could be and yet it felt like we were finally all together. My eyes were already welling up at this point from hearing whole what I had only before heard in fragments, but when Chert's drums went silent my throat turned to knots. How did I forget this would happen? Esker isn't whistling. They had died countless times before, but this time was different. Now Reibeck's banjo. Then Gabbro, Feldspar. As they were each torn away I fell more and more apart. Deep in the static at the end of everything, I was truly alone. 10/10 would weep uncontrollably at unexpected moments again great game
Feldspars instrument alone is really somber.
This. This comment. This is amazing.
29:12
The sound of a couple of rag tag astronauts who wanted to learn more
28:30
The sound of a melancholic cry for not wanting things to end
57:43
The sound of a hopeful melody, ready for what comes next
1:27:37
The sound of travelers. Ever curious, ever worried, but ever hopeful.
There’s just something so special about 1:22:45, I feel likes it’s a perfect representation of all 3 of the species, Whistling, feels very nostalgic buts it’s nothing big but you can dream and achieve lots with the even the bare minimum. Piano, infinite possibilities and adventurous for what you can create and even when alone can make great strides.Theremin, a somber and outer worldly sounding instrument that still shows a little bit of hope. When all of this is combined you can still hear each instrument clearly and appreciate them, even with their glaring differences.
Me: "I'm not going to cry another time I see the prisoner playing their instrument with the others!"
Also me: *Cries every time the prisoner plays their instrument with the others.*
List of all the variations with 6 players:
28:30 - No Piano
50:45 - No Harmonica
56:20 - No Whistling
57:43 - No Theremin (aka Base Game Travelers)
58:25 - No Banjo
1:01:12 - No Flute
1:12:19 - No Drums
Ironically, the one that feels the most off to me is the one without Esker. The most forgotten member is the one whose absence makes the "worse" result!
From hearing the Prisoner play the Theremin, it goes to show that they may have been singing in that candlelit building in the Shrouded Woodlands. I always thought they were playing instruments.
Bit of both, as the main group in the sim world had a whole band playing
I love how the prisioner and Solanum songs feel so different from the other 5 and still match perfectly
43:07 onwards is such a warm joy to listen to. The sudden symphony of drums with piano is perfect, with the rest to join just making it art.
I want to give everyone a hug when I listen to these songs
It’s best you should, because as they all play together for the last time,
the universe they’re in literally explodes, evaporating everyone instantly
Quantum Images or not it all still feels the same
This is probably my favorite video ever, I would have not notice how well the prisoner's and solanum's tracks work together so well
theres something about they combine on solanums da-dah-DAH-dah that makes my heart skip a beat everytime.
two species that never met each other, who, through their actions, allowed for all the pieces to fall in place to meet, all together in one last hymn while the stars go out
When I beat Echoes of the Eye, the first two tracks I activated during the ending sequence were prisoner and solanum, and it brought a tear to my eye how beautiful and melancholy their songs sound together.
I love 11:07 for how melancholy it is, the flute and harmonica already mix well but the theremin is perfect
Truly my best part
In the beginning, I thought it was the Owls’ singing together. To know it was this instrument made their melody even more beautiful and fascinating
1:27:38 Imagining all of them playing together as the universe ends honestly makes me want to cry :[
1:25:32 Just three species at the end of the universe.
Can't believe I wrote the exact same comment hahaha. Guess we're all connected in this
I always find it interesting that Esker and Riebeck are the Hearthians playing the main melody of "Travelers". Of all the astronauts, they seem to be the only ones who haven't achieved their dreams, or lost their purpose along the way. Riebeck never got to visit the Hanging City like they always wanted to, and Esker was left alone at the Lunar Outpost and slowly forgotten. Meanwhile, Feldspar was able to have bold and daring adventures, Chert was able to study the stars and make scientific observations, and Gabbro found peace and relaxation on their travels.
In this song, no one is left behind, not even those who didn't have enough time at the end of a dying universe. Maybe at this campfire, they found everything they needed.
Evil Outer Wilds be like: 28:29
Ha lol. But for real tho it sounds empty as hell without Solanum. It makes me sad.
If you hear this naturally in any playthrough you're just a bad person
When I die, I'm gonna die trying to whistle this as a lullaby. For all of us.
This song is that for me, that hug you so rarely get when you're crying like a baby about something you just couldn't understand, that feeling that conveys "I don't understand it either, and that's fine as long as you don't either".
I missed so much. I miss more. And I know I will miss even more in the future. And even though, deep down I'm not fine with that. But, I guess I'm gonna have to one of these days.
doesnt matter how long'll pass, this song and its... iterations for lack of a bettter word, will always come back to mind
The addition of the theremin is absolutely incredible, really holds lots of these different combinations together and fits into the full version as if it was always there - a perfect metaphor for the role of the Strangers in the story.
This must've been exhausting to edit, thanks for making it!
Just The Prisoner at the start almost got me crying
1:27:40 What better way than to end things on a good note.
I’ve been listening to the seperated sections of Traveler’s encore and wanting to writing down my scattered thought on each of the sections
Banjo 1:24 : Sounds like home, of old times, of humble campfire, comfort and friendships. With the hint of young determination. Walking along with friends by their side.
Harmonica 20:52 : Sounds like a gleeful celebration and welcoming of death. Like it’s time to welcomig death with the open arms and like an old friend “Haha, it’s time, death is coming be prepared!” A mix of ascention to finality and uncanny happiness
Flute 9:44 : Sounds like a gentle anticipation of death. The accension to the end but gently hold your hand through it.
Whistling 4:11 : Melancholy. It’s being happy in the face of the end but unlike harmonica, the sadness within this shine through. Like being forece to act happy all while tear of sadness stream down their face. You don’t really want to go even if you act like you’re happy.
Drums 43:08 : Sounds like celebration.
Piano 1:26:56 : A melancholic determination. Of someone determine and fight to reach the star but ultimately hinting toward failure and tregedy of falling to do so.
Theremin 0:00 : A Mourning song. Of the old ways, Of what could have been
And so when some of these mix together it can have different feels to it to
Banjo+Piano 1:24:51 : Adolescense determination. Of someone inexperience but determine to finish something
Banjo+Theremin 0:42 : Someone comforting someone mourning
Theremin+Piano 1:26:14 : Enhanced melancolic determination. The meaning is still the same but the tregedy and sadness are more apparent in its determination
All 1:27:38 : A celbration+mourning+braving or determination in the face of death
The only way this comment could be better, is if you added time stamps. I absolutely love this portrayal of a wonderful tune ❤
@@boomaroom6254 Thank you! I've edit the post to add the time stamps just for you
I watched this whole video while working and loved it. I joined in with my cello by the end and cried. Art like this doesn't get made often. Cherish art like this when it does.
43:48 just saying, that´s sound good
The nomai and their curiosity, with the nature that they always thought to keep safe in all their experiments
1:15:06 is the combination I just can't get enough of. They fit each other perfectly. Not only melodies, but stories as well. Two aliens, both mostly dead in different ways. Feldspar - who knows if they duplicated inside of Dark Bramble's multidimensional space and also partly died. Either way, they are inside and outside of the solar system simultaneously. Gabbro, stripped from their ship and completely calm about what's happening. Our time buddy and a quantum fan. There is also Lore Explorer's theory, that they might reflect someone from previous Universe, who interacted with the Eye before last Big Bang and gave some of their personality to the current Universe.
40:20 The rest of the travelers are doing their own melody, it's more (h)earthly and less melancholic.
When I first heard travelers theme, I didn't like how flute and harmonic are slow and lingering at the background, but second time it was hard to accept fast, rhythmic sounds of banjo, drums and whistling into my precious otherworldly foursome.
Thank you Yodragon, your dedication towards compiling these beautiful sounds is laudable.
I'm so very sad RUclips removed annotations, your videos were always a delight to navigate. I do recognize this new system is more accessible for impaired people, so thanks for keeping on even though this platform doesn't give you all your tools anymore.
You, yes you. Play the game; you wont regret it.
Riebeck The prisoner and Solanum are all so perfect sounding when just the three of them
The theremin is one of the coolest instruments we ever devised, seeing it used in this way is just.. I don't fucking know how to describe it. It gives me chills in a way I never thought possible
gabbro is so so quiet you can barely hear them alone and with anyone else they get completely drowned out which is so sad to me :(
Well if you are focusing on it you can hear it, but I get what you mean
Gabro's flute works like a bass, it basically completes the song and helps make it sound amazing.
They got to help make something pretty cool, they've got no complaints.
music is like building a house, and gabbro is the foundation.
@@anonymoususer638 I heavily agree. It’s subtle, but you can hear that Gabbro’s Flue uplifts Solanum’s piano, harmonizes with Feldspar’s Harmonica and the Prisoner’s Theremin, and serves as the base for Riebeck’s Banjo and Chert’s Drum.
Even if he’s not well heard, the song isn’t complete without Gabbro.
I like to think that all the travelers spent a few hours or maybe a few eons (since time probably breaks down at end of the universe) going around alternating playing instruments in different combinations before all coming together.
Time well spent
Flute-- provides a foundation/beat to work on
Drums-- keeps the foundation/beat steady but adds a little flair
Banjo-- creates the melody and help keeps it steady
Harmonica-- provides a simple yet effective backup
Piano/ theremin-- provides a unique melody that goes along with the main one
Whistling-- brings it together
Prisoner's song makes me want to cry every time i listen to it 😢 I was about to burst in tears when i ended the DLC, and i'm actually happy about it. I started DLC a long time after i completed original story and i was worried if the DLC will give me same great amotions that i got from original story. Thank God that there are game developers like Mobius and composers like Andrew Prahlow.
1:06:46 is so perfectly melancholy
1:15:06 love it !!
The music in this game is so beautiful, I thought nothing could improve since it was so perfect. But it did improve. Echoes of the eye tied everything together. It was so unique and so simple at the same time. It added so much by saying little. I have never played a game that is more touching this and I am so thankful it exists.
I mvoe how the stranger looks so happy
they finally get to jam after 280 000 years of imprisonment
1:25:23 - All 3 species coming together to play a beautiful song. Love it.
1:15:06 i love this one :'[
Was waiting for this to be made, thanks again - the love put into the soundtrack still amazes me 2 years on (even more so with EotE). It's been said before, but it feels like the theremin was always there.
The banjo/Riebeck's place in this melody feels so required in my opinion. I just love how this theme fits the banjo and everytime I hear it I tear up. I really dont understand what this game has done to me, but for its uniqueness and perfection it became my favorite game and probably will stay up there. I don't think anything can recreate the feeling I had experiencing this game/story. Closest im gonna get is reliving the memories in my own head with this beautiful music.
I love the detail of the memory stream at the end, just goes to show how much effort these kinds of things take. Love it!
I was surprised by that sound being from an interment, I always thought the owlks were vocalising it
the prisoner uses a instrument but i think that the owlks in the party house used their vocals
Walk with me, ill show things you've never seen. Walk with me, ill take you to amazing places.
Outer Wilds
As i have said before, whether you walk alone or with others, there are so many amazing places to see, things to do, marshmallows to roast.
Never has a game moved me as much as this one. His philosophy makes him a masterpiece. That will always remain in my heart. the game that teaches us to see everything with the eyes of children. Always new eyes, eyes with enthusiasm to discover and unite. Thank you time, for giving me the opportunity to exist at the same time as Outer Wilds.
Got spoiled but what a wonderful sound, creepy alone but really beautiful among all the other songs
7:45 skipping ahead to see Antler boy and Quantum girl play together, don’t wanna lose my spot
Theremin makes me tear up. Harmonica makes me Sad.
I cried
I love this game so much.
The prisioner's theremin sounds like a lullaby, a lullaby about not being afraid of the dark, or more accordingly death
i still think it's pretty unfair that i'll never be able to play this game for the first time again
58:24
31:59
1:17:11
52:52 this is where my favourite combination is
You have good taste.
Balancing the fear and the liberation of death is strange, similiarly to how everything has an end so will we have one too.
1:00:30 is a combination of all instruments me and my family of 5 can play, breaks my heart to hear a medley of those instruments when the universe is ending.
someone in your family plays a theremin???
God bless the whistler, they're doing their best.
The theremin work is gorgeous! And the theremin + piano is even better!
Traveler's Theme
1:23 Banjo
7:38 Banjo + Flute
12:30 Banjo + Flute + Harmonica
13:12 Banjo + Flute + Harmonica + Whistling
29:12 Banjo + Flute + Harmonica + Whistling + Drums
57:43 Banjo + Harmonica + Drums + Flute + Whistling + Piano
1:27:37 Banjo + Harmonica + Drums + Flute + Whistling + Piano + Theremin
Man I'm so lost rn but this is one of the things that keeps me here.
I appreciate that all the parts with the piano are lumped together, since that's my favourite of the instruments
When the prisoner asks if I accept him, I wish I could give him a big hug as a way of saying yes.
Ty for making this, been waiting a while for it
RIP everyone who hyperventilated while trying to whistle along
I've been hoping to find this, thank you.
I just noticed that you uploaded this!! Thank you so so so much, this is absolutely beautiful
I've been waiting for this video all day since I saw the ending!
Once more through the rapid flow
Before it’s all again ripped to sunder
through uncertainty and long faded glow
Driven by quantum dreams and endless wonder
Through torrid storms and sand filled skies
Through mist filled thorns and blackened stone
Our song will still play, though the campfire dies
No matter how far away, we won’t sing alone
Like gabbro’s poem, huh?
31:17 Flute, drum, harmonica, theremin
thank you so much, i have been waiting for this and just, oh so perfect. You are amazing, truly.
YES I CHECKED BACK ON YOUR CHANNEL HOPING AND HERE IT IS!
Thank you so much for making this!!! I love the first one you did for the base game so it made me so happy to see this in my reccomendeds ^__^
Thank you, this is wonderful
Hey Gabbo. Someone made something that has more combination than your Quantum Poem
God i love this game, such an amazing finale.
Definitely going into my ''wish i could forget to experience it again once more'' list
Thank you Mobius Games for this wonderful masterpiece 😭 this is so beautiful. One of the best experiences I lived in a videogame
I have listened to this at least 15 times all the way through, and only at normal speed because otherwise it feels like a disservice to such art.
I was wondering when you’d post this as soon as I saw them have those weird instruments! Thank you.
Observing the image of a quantum object and observing the object itself, these are the same. The Travelers are real as long as we're their to listen.
Damn, didn't realize you did this as well. Legendary.
The one thing I wonder is where the rattling in Chert's drum performance comes from. Do they have some bells rattling around in their helmet? lol.
That’d probably be painful for your ears!
It's on their leg
There's a thing on their leg
currently imaging just picking up Chert, shaking them, and it just sounds like a maraca lol
Thank you.
I never noticed until now just he amount of detail put into the instruments being played. The drumbs not being hit but also the hitting of the side to give that wooden sound?
I'll just tag 1:15:07 and 1:17:12 because they're my favorites so far.
Hi, it's one of my favorite song on youtube .thank you XD
Blast it! I meant to watch this as soon as it came out, but I only just got the notification now. (>~
does anyone else see our owl boy smiling?
OH BOY I WONDER WHAT THE OWL SHAPED SILHOUETTE IS HMMMMM
