Happy RUclips anniversary, and congratulations on all the milestones Smokey! That MCI was pretty amazing! I can understand why you put off opening it up, but it ended up being totally worth the effort. The cans were in great shape (another reason to not want to open them up and keep them for display). And while all the B-Unit stuff seemed at worst slightly edible and at best nearly perfect, I think the thing that impressed me the most was the Ham and Eggs! I don't think I've ever seen an MCI entree that old that looked that edible. Probably not a good idea to take a chance on it, but I would have definitely been severely tempted to try it out! Great video, as usual!

That is kinda scary to me that this entire meal looks like it might be edible. these components were very well stored. some might have been kept in the freezer. That main I would have at least tasted. YAY Cocoa beverage powder still drinkable wow that jam is the best I have seen for jam at least in the can. Nice old blackberry jam that doesn't look like tar. Peanut butter seems to never go bad as long as the can is in tact. Great review thanks.
I really wanted to try the ham and eggs but botulism is odorless and can't be detected. I honestly never dreamed it would be as good of shape as it was. If I had know I would have boiled that sucker for 20 minutes and maybe tried it. Hope to get the next 50 videos out a bit quicker than the first 50. As always thanks for watching.....Later.

I think I might have 2 mci's in alot better shape than this one was. So if you thought this one was good wait til you see the one I check out next. I bought 9 of them from a woman in Colorado but freaking FedEx lost 6 of the 9 and I had to send the remaining actually only 2.5 back to the seller to get a refund. But Steve bought a case from the same woman and I bought 3 from him. So they will be in the same condition as his last mci review. I'm excited to try one of those out

I just recently bought my first MCI, mine doesn't look as nice as that! Got the good old Ham and Lima Beans, tasty! Awesome video! Congrats on 5k, you definitely deserve it man!
The Ham and limabeans is a tough one that's for sure. That's one that usually doesn't hold up very well. Even if it does hold up there's never anything edible in them. I had probably the best one I've ever seen and I hooked Steve up with it to review. That ration always has a B-2 unit with crackers and cheese spread.
I'm just about 99 percent sure that's what it'll have in it. All the ones I've seen have a b2 unit, a pecan roll, and the ham and limabeans. Your best bet is looking for B1, and B3 units. The big tall cans are my favorite but gotta make sure there not bloated. If they are them the jam has busted.

That closeup brought back bad memories. Way we did it was combine different units to make caseroles. We used to have a menu book provided by Heinz 57 sauce people.

The box was in awesome shape and the ham and eggs chopped was in good shape unexpectedly. The B-3 Unit was my favorite part outside of the Lucky Strikes.

I really wanted to but botulism is odorless. So I decided against it. If I had boiled it for 15-20 minutes before I probably would have tried it tho haha.
I was eating C Rats marked 1951 and 52 in 1972 while TDY in Thailand, were OK, they were great cause I was totally super hungry for those 3 weeks. we didn't have any mess kits, ate em out of the can with the spoon. heated them for 30 minutes the the hot hot hot Thai sun in May.
Wow you were eating some old school C rats. I'd say your lucky nobody got sick since they didn't get cooked good. Brave man but at the time it probably didn't seem like it was even strange because they have them to you. You kids probably just assumed they were good to go.
What, and yall think the USAF would ever give us something not good for us? We were just hungry as all hell.The NCO handing them out was checking for bad smells and discolored boxes. didn't find any problems.They were only 20 years ole and were supposed to be good for at least 35 years. Would an NCO lie to you? XDXDXD
+Ron Torrence No of course not. Your NCO is your best friend. But the myth of the meals supposed to be good for 35 years is crazy. They'd need to be in dark, dry, 40°F storage somewhere to last that long. Unfortunately I now know by testing it myself. I had a well stored 1980 mci 2 years ago and there's no way of eat the main meal. The sides yeah but not the main calories. Now with the technology of retort pouches I will eat 35 year old good without much worry. It's something to do with the metal of the cans that made stuff not last as long. But there's no doubt in my mind you were eating 20 year old food. Your not the first to tell me the same story actually. They had a huge surplus from the ending of the Korean War. I can't believe they didn't get rid of the stuff before they did but you guys and your guts took all their basically trash off their hands. You solved 2 problems for them. Number 1 was "What do we do with all this old expired food" Number two was "What are we going to feed these young silly kids?" So they just said heck two birds one stone those old C- Rats. No more hungry kids and no more 20 year old food tp worry about. I love hearing the stories like yours. Because could you imagine having a few cases of those still edible rations you had back then today? I'm convinced that there's some deep, deep down in a cold, cold bunker somewhere or in the bottom of some old man's freezer that some day I'll get to try legit C-Ration from the 40s and 50s.
I IMAGINE THERE ARE STILL WAREHOUSES FULL OF THEM HERE IN Thailand, NOT AT THE BEACH AREAS, BUT WE STILL HAVE SOME PROPERTIES BEING HELD ONTO UP HERE IN THE HILLS. There are benefits to having some friends at the US Consulate in Chiang Mai, and knowing some of the active duty guys that aren't here. Of course, we know we don't have any observation outposts up here.
Wow that's amazing. Just the thought that they may exist makes me full of excitement. I can't even imagine something that cool. If you happen to run across something from a stash like that let me know.

Question for you Oldsmokey. Most old Cs that I see have the small can of jelly or peanut butter, but I just recently opened a sealed case from Oct 1965 and none of the individual boxes have these, I know they are inside the B Unit cans but not packed loose in the box. I've done some research but cannot figure it out, can you clear this up for me?
That's kinda strange because I think at least 2 of the menus should have had Peanut butter loose. The jelly should have been in one or 2 also but I'm thinking my case of early 1964s didn't have them either so they might not have started that until like 68-72 or around there. I'll ask Steve and try to remember to get back with you if he knows.

I've had this exact same ration! In fact I took up smoking with the cigs from these rations. Lucky's and Marlboros's..Winstons, Camels all good smokes! Funniest thing is when Steve 1989 smokes an old smoke...lol if you watch his face you can tell when he gets a buzz from it lol....oh the ham and eggs as shown here sucked! You'd get a case of the trots from it. The other stuff was great!...Congratulations on subs!
+American Axe & Tool Co Crazy the military used to encourage smoking. WW1 is the reason cigarettes as we know them today are popular. They handed out 2oz of tobacco, 50 rolling papers, chocolate x2 bars, and donuts. The soldiers used the stuff for trade with locals if they needed anything. Most guys smoked the cigs though. Then when they came back from the war they wanted smokes. Yeah Steve catches a buzz from the oldies some times. Thank ya for watchin.

Well there's a good hiss and a bad hiss. If it's a vacuum hiss like with crackers or the bread that's good because it's air rushing in. Than a bad hiss would be on like a can of fruit for example that would be air rushing out which is a bad thing. Hope ya subscribe and hang around for more videos. Later.
It actually happened April of 2016. I've had 6 surgeries now and as of last week is still broken. I had 3 sets of hardware installed into my leg now. Hopefully I heal up this time.

In the Airforce (1983) we got the left over rations. these we called Green eggs and Ham. Even the camp cat wouldn't eat it, and she ate everything.

I'm just about 99 percent sure that's what it'll have in it. All the ones I've seen have a b2 unit, a pecan roll, and the ham and limabeans. Your best bet is looking for B1, and B3 units. The big tall cans are my favorite but gotta make sure there not bloated. If they are them the jam has busted.

That closeup brought back bad memories. Way we did it was combine different units to make caseroles. We used to have a menu book provided by Heinz 57 sauce people.

The box was in awesome shape and the ham and eggs chopped was in good shape unexpectedly. The B-3 Unit was my favorite part outside of the Lucky Strikes.

I really wanted to but botulism is odorless. So I decided against it. If I had boiled it for 15-20 minutes before I probably would have tried it tho haha.
I was eating C Rats marked 1951 and 52 in 1972 while TDY in Thailand, were OK, they were great cause I was totally super hungry for those 3 weeks. we didn't have any mess kits, ate em out of the can with the spoon. heated them for 30 minutes the the hot hot hot Thai sun in May.
Wow you were eating some old school C rats. I'd say your lucky nobody got sick since they didn't get cooked good. Brave man but at the time it probably didn't seem like it was even strange because they have them to you. You kids probably just assumed they were good to go.

No of course not. Your NCO is your best friend. But the myth of the meals supposed to be good for 35 years is crazy. They'd need to be in dark, dry, 40°F storage somewhere to last that long. Unfortunately I now know by testing it myself. I had a well stored 1980 mci 2 years ago and there's no way of eat the main meal. The sides yeah but not the main calories. Now with the technology of retort pouches I will eat 35 year old good without much worry. It's something to do with the metal of the cans that made stuff not last as long. But there's no doubt in my mind you were eating 20 year old food. Your not the first to tell me the same story actually. They had a huge surplus from the ending of the Korean War. I can't believe they didn't get rid of the stuff before they did but you guys and your guts took all their basically trash off their hands. You solved 2 problems for them. Number 1 was "What do we do with all this old expired food" Number two was "What are we going to feed these young silly kids?" So they just said heck two birds one stone those old C- Rats. No more hungry kids and no more 20 year old food tp worry about. I love hearing the stories like yours. Because could you imagine having a few cases of those still edible rations you had back then today? I'm convinced that there's some deep, deep down in a cold, cold bunker somewhere or in the bottom of some old man's freezer that some day I'll get to try legit C-Ration from the 40s and 50s.
I IMAGINE THERE ARE STILL WAREHOUSES FULL OF THEM HERE IN Thailand, NOT AT THE BEACH AREAS, BUT WE STILL HAVE SOME PROPERTIES BEING HELD ONTO UP HERE IN THE HILLS. There are benefits to having some friends at the US Consulate in Chiang Mai, and knowing some of the active duty guys that aren't here. Of course, we know we don't have any observation outposts up here.

You need to make sure it's the same year, and same month, also same company. Even then the cookie could be different. The cookie in this thing was awesome from the company that makes girl scout cookies if I remember right.

Question for you Oldsmokey. Most old Cs that I see have the small can of jelly or peanut butter, but I just recently opened a sealed case from Oct 1965 and none of the individual boxes have these, I know they are inside the B Unit cans but not packed loose in the box. I've done some research but cannot figure it out, can you clear this up for me?
That's kinda strange because I think at least 2 of the menus should have had Peanut butter loose. The jelly should have been in one or 2 also but I'm thinking my case of early 1964s didn't have them either so they might not have started that until like 68-72 or around there. I'll ask Steve and try to remember to get back with you if he knows.

I've had this exact same ration! In fact I took up smoking with the cigs from these rations. Lucky's and Marlboros's..Winstons, Camels all good smokes! Funniest thing is when Steve 1989 smokes an old smoke...lol if you watch his face you can tell when he gets a buzz from it lol....oh the ham and eggs as shown here sucked! You'd get a case of the trots from it. The other stuff was great!...Congratulations on subs!

Crazy the military used to encourage smoking. WW1 is the reason cigarettes as we know them today are popular. They handed out 2oz of tobacco, 50 rolling papers, chocolate x2 bars, and donuts. The soldiers used the stuff for trade with locals if they needed anything. Most guys smoked the cigs though. Then when they came back from the war they wanted smokes. Yeah Steve catches a buzz from the oldies some times. Thank ya for watchin.

Well there's a good hiss and a bad hiss. If it's a vacuum hiss like with crackers or the bread that's good because it's air rushing in. Than a bad hiss would be on like a can of fruit for example that would be air rushing out which is a bad thing. Hope ya subscribe and hang around for more videos. Later.

It actually happened April of 2016. I've had 6 surgeries now and as of last week is still broken. I had 3 sets of hardware installed into my leg now. Hopefully I heal up this time.

That bread was awful. The last bread I had from 1964 was way better. This bread had turned into a sponge of rancid awfulness. BTW that was my original plan but that bread came out just way to awful. Next time I review one of my 64s with bread I will probably try it on the bread.
