What is the fuss about having a synopsis? If you listen to radio 4 live you will often hear clips from upcoming dramas,or little descriptions to wet the listeners appetite before the actual play. You might not want it so don't read it. It's nothing to do with how "grown-up" it makes you feel. People have different lives and different needs. For example sometimes I have children around who want to listen too,or I might want something calm and quiet to fall asleep with. So a good synopsis can help me guess whether someone might be screaming later, or whether the subject might become unsuitable for small ears. I'm not morally inferior for finding it useful and I'm very grateful to all those who take the time to write them and dig out other interesting bits of information. My 12year old is very good at recognizing voices and loves to be proved right when there's a cast list. So well done everyone and keep it up for those who want and appreciate your efforts! ❤️
Because it helps to decide whether or not a person wants to listen to it, without wasting 5 or 10 minutes listening to it 🤷♂️ What’s the fuss about simply giving a short synopsis? Do you judge a book by its cover?
To : Tottie Mae : Thank you for taking the time to write the synopsis....as a grown up - sometimes I decide to read the synopsis and sometimes I don't - sometimes I read the comments before I listen to the play and sometimes I read them afterwards and sometimes..... I don't read them at all.... Ahhhh the bliss of freedom of choice awarded to me, by me as a GROWN UP!!!
I love the synopses. I'm not crazy about the WWII spy type dramas, and there seem to be quite a few. Having a synopsis lets me skip thru to the ones that interest me. In fact, there's another BBC radio drama channel here on YT that has a synopsis in the description. I tend to drift toward that channel instead of this one simply because of that. So thanks to anyone who adds one.
Great play, it will happen again if people just close their eyes & ignore everything around them, no one’s as blind as those who will not see. Many thanks xx
Synopsis: A thriller. "He wants to know if I can remember faces and names. 'They still surface', he tells me, ...'those survivors of the SS.' They know about the Bormanns and the Mengeles. But still there are others. Some of them, Mendel believes, are among us again today, in this city."

Guys, made my comment about the Synopsis a while ago ...... no more comments please .... I get that the majority find them useful. So much for having a point of view . Long live Free Speech.!!
I enjoy not knowing in advance and listening with an open mind! There are all sorts of inaccuracies re the Vatican and the Nazis......that's what suspension of disbelief is for!
If you don't want a synopsis don't read it.I for one want to know if a book, play, film is something I would be interested in.I don't want to listen to a play to find some way in it is not of interest to me.
You are wonderful, Chesterton. I live in East Africa and cannot support patreon because I have the wrong kind of currency and the differential in value is enormous between local currency in which I'm paid prohibits engaging in the PayPal world of online transactions. Your public service breaks through the digital divide in the rare direction of including everybody in the benefits, and many people are extremely grateful for your thoughtful activity. Hope you make good money to support your work. Please ignore those who comment with the presumption of entitlement that makes further demands on your time and trouble.
It would seem I am not the only person who thinks there should be a brief synopsis for each program. The fact that you use the term entitlement is ridiculous.
people don’t pay for this service and think they are entitled to complain. Not everyone is pleasant about asking for a synopsis or whatever else and can be downright rude.
My son HATES it when I give a synopsis. He puts his fingers in his ears and goes "La la la la la...." it's like he's scared I might give the ending away.
Elaine Payne. Thank you for your remark on my comment re: Synopsis. Nice to see that you like everyone to have an opinion. Seems you like to hog the limelight in that department. Good Luck with that and Thank You. ElaineElaine Payne No can’t continue with this. I am sure it is very good but l am fed up with the horror stories of the Second World War. Why do these works of fiction based on fact create such anger in me. Enough already! Elaine Payne Stephen Norton - I do want a synopsis! Time is too precious to waste and as Sheila states, ‘we don’t have to read it’. Instead I look at comments, however, our views and opinions are different. One person’s ‘excellent’ may be my ‘so so’. Thank you Chesterton.
The play obviously written at a time when the Catholic church maintained some kind of moral authority ? ie. Before the avalanche of child abuse cases of the last 25 years . ?
Please, please do not write a synopsis. Let us listen, think and fathom for ourselves. We can all be smart if allowed to be be and do not all need spoon feeding. I hope other listeners agree. Personally I think it is also an insult to the good folk that load these wonderful stories for us. I have found myself listening to audio plays since the age of 12 and want to continue doing so, letting my imagination work its magic.
Books and films will have a synopsis which helps in deciding whether to buy, watch or listen. As Sheila says, just skip if you do not want to get a taste of what you are about to listen to. I for one like to have some small inkling of what is to come. As long as the ending is not divulged as a spoiler then I for one am happy to have a synopsis available.
Just listen and enjoy. Why do you feel you need some sort of 'enter' to the story you are about to listen to as if this may or may not decide you yo listenim
Sorry posted before I had finished plus auto correct took over. I just want to listen and if I Decide half way through that the story is not for me, fine, I'll cut short and log into another tale.. Do not need or want a 'SYNOPSIS'. I'm a grown up!!

I got part of the way through and had to stop. THIS piece is very manipulative. Specifically: its trying to hide the Holocaust, when all of us know we should never forget it. It Demonizes the man who is trying to keep this fresh in everyone's mind. It is subtley saying that Germans had no problem with the Holocaust, because they still hate the Jews. If they prosecute everyone who did wrong during the war, will they stop at prosecuting those who chose to be Willfully Ignorant? They don't want to continue being reminded of thier sins. For those of us, who can NEVER forget; we are weary of these pieces of entertainment. I wouldn't have wasted my precious time, if I had known the subject matter.

@@Sapper094 yes that’s what she said.
But it shouldn't tell half of the entire story. These tell way too much.

@@TheSuperHarrygeorge or learn how to write what the play is about without ruining it.

Very Odessa File.
What year was this show broadcast?
I would have had a different ending. Ben would have killed Braun. Thank goodness Sara had insisted he take her Mauser!
