Rules:
- This is a low level run of zombero's hardtype mod: www.romhacking...
- The aim is to keep XP gain as low as possible without affecting my sanity.
- Hard mode, obviously
- No stat boosting items
- All other game mechanics are fair game!
Hardtype changes:
- HP: 3000 → 6600
- Force affinity: Drain → Resist
- Hell Burner → Scald (Light fire damage + lowers physical attack)
Yeesh. Well despite a number of extremely close calls, this was a fun fight. Not Dante hard, but tougher than expected because Force Drain doesn't prevent the Dekaja effect of Hell Exhaust. You need repel for that, but drain passives don't upgrade any further, there are no demons who repel force at this level and magic mirrors have of course been nerfed. So we need to take him on naked, as it were. However, even though his buff removal is top notch, I still found it best to keep stacking them. Keeping him at -1 attack is most important as it allows Genbu to take 2 physicals. I play particularly recklessly during the first phase and just keep upping my attack. A more defensive play with speed buffs is probably safer, if slower.
You definitely need a Sukukaja and Sukunda stack in the second phase. Dodges are the only way to avoid quadruple physical spam. Fortunately there a couple of merciful things about his attack script: when attacking physically he always alternates between a basic attack and a full-party spin, and he never seems to cast Dekunda and Hell Throttle in the same turn.
Counters are what save the day here, since every time he spins me he risks taking hundreds of damage. The Force Drain passive is very nice too, especially on Choronzon, who as usual is pretty much invincible. In hindsight I should've gotten Life Bonus on Genbu, then I wouldn't have to keep a Tarunda stack up at all, but thankfully he didn't use Dekunda too much this time.
- I started out with Fomor in the party because he has better survivability against the Biker's physicals. Ironically Genbu would've survived that opening round.
- 5:21 I've never seen counters trigger boss dialogue mid-round before. And then 5:27 is the Sketchiest Hardtype Moment™ yet
- There's a really easy enemy encounter at the start of Kabukicho, and it's the best opportunity in the game to get Debilitate via a lucky skill change. Well, I'm gonna try anyway. Wish me luck!
Who will drop debilitate as skill change?
@@alderpan Need to make a demon with both Void Force and Drain Force, then it will try to upgrade Void Force but always fail. Potentially giving Debilitate... eventually.

Heh. Tarunda is kinda better than War Cry here, since you keep having to recast it's better to not spend 40 MP every time.
Plus you can only put -2/+2 stats on enemies. Though enemies still can +4 themselves or -4 you.

I would have made a do-over just for High Pixie's skill change.
That was sad, but I'm mainly just keeping her around for Lucky Find. Didn't want to redo this fight cause it's kinda tough. I didn't risk the skill change with Momunofu for the same reason.

Yeah, like, honestly, I put Avenge in the tier of Freikugel, Focus and Pierce. Free heavy damage on the enemy is always great.

Yeah, I had this problem in my previous LL run and had to resort to mirror spam. I thought drain might work but nope, repel only. You can tell Dekaja's still working because I keep using Tarukaja and never hit the buff cap

Why not use hifumi? is it some kind of 200iq ai manipulation so it uses hell exhaust often?
I tried because I wanted to learn Tornado, but Demi can't tank 2 physicals without phys resist. If Demi is 2HKO'd by a physical in this fight essentially means any time he's targetted by a physical it's game over since he'll always attack then Hell Spin everyone.
So yeah, it's possible with some luck, but Kamudo is way more reliable

That info isn't given. Which is fair enough, I'm sure zombero wanted it to be a surprise, I'm just documenting the changes as I go through the game in case it's useful for anyone. You can see enemy stats using the battle debug if you want, using this code:

Okay so how did you get force drain on momunofu? Is it something with hardtype because in the base game the only demons that you can transfer the force drain skill are Ganesha and mot.
Skill upgrades after battle. You can do this in vanilla too.

@@joshuamedina6807 Honestly I feel like I've shot myself in the foot with the no stat boosting restriction, originally this was not a serious playthrough and I just put that in because technically with stat boosting you could money farm Demi Fiend to max stats with Lucky Tickets. I think he may well need some extra vit in the lategame, but I'll see how far I can go without...

I have a bunch, but mirrors are nerfed to only protect the user in hardtype. But it's true that a safer strat would be to have Demi throw a mirror every turn, then he's pretty much impossible to kill since he'll retain his buffs. Would be a lot slower though.
