I've got Shawn's hand written lyrics for this framed on my wall which he sold as merchandise on what turned out to be his last tour here. So glad I got to see him play.
Great stuff Matt. Shawn’s voice was so soulful and Brad has such a full and diverse back catalogue, with Stones’ distinctive playing and tone at the heart... I love it. Many thanks 🙏
Just wrote out a long comment and accidentally deleted it 😄 What I meant to say... What a tune! Such a great song, and top lesson Matt. Thank you for doing this one, I will definitely be trying it out (probably with some cheeky phaser or vibe in the choruses). I played the first Brad album to death back in the day, which is where (like many I imagine) I discovered Shawn Smith. His incredible voice and piano was the perfect match for Stone's subtle cool in Brad; that and the awesome single '20th Century' (how's about that riff for a future lesson??) meant Shame was rarely off my car tape deck in the early 90s. I was privileged to meet Shawn a few times at his Half Moon, Putney gigs - the last time was the day after Chris Cornell died. That gig turned into a kind of cathartic wake, equally joyous, celebratory and sad (yep, leaky eyes!) Shawn was super friendly after the gigs, and seemed genuinely moved that people (quite rightly) held him up as one of the great Seattle icons. He signed my 'Live At The Point' CD, and spent time with anyone who stayed back after the gig finished. He's a legend in my book, and I was shocked, saddened and gutted when he died less than two years later. One of the bands I play in swiftly learnt 'The Day Brings' from Interiors (close call with Shame, but probably my favourite Brad album), which we played live at a few festivals - here's some phone vid footage from July 2019: ruclips.net/video/TFLdr9pUkkY/видео.html
