    Great video & tour of one of my favorite places to ski in the world, Zermatt. To anyone thinking about visiting in winter, you should learn to ski in order to enjoy all of Zermatt as well as Cervinia, Italy.
    We stay at the Zermatterhof Hotel which is magical. They even pick you up at the train in a horse drawn sleigh. Zermatt is a Swiss fantasy.

    Hi - good video, but just to point out to you that you can't (really) ski into France from Zermatt like you said. It is about 40 miles away, and whilst technically possible it would take many days of cross country skiing to make it. Italy, yes, as Cervinia is just over the border and easy to connect.

      @@BrittChrisTravel only thing I can say to that, as I have been skiing for over 50 years now, is to next go to a better suited resort that caters to family skiing more. Zematt does have something for everyone but it's sheer size can be overwhelming. Plus there is a multitude of much.more affordable options as in destination resorts for skiing.

    You can ski into Cervinia Italy but not into France not sure where she got that. I have been there and I am a PSIA Level 3 instructor(the highest level there is) you go to the top of the Klien Matterhorn (Glacier Paradise I assume) and can ski directly down into Cervinia named after Monte Cervinio (Italian for Matterhorn) which I did when I was there. But this is a good video. Grooming is great at Zermatt not sure why she was talking about ice but anything is possible. Oh and piste pronounced peeste not pissed . it's also a very honest video.

If you have a full day and you can ski I think you can do all of these things if you start first thing in the morning and watch the ski lift times, but it would be rushed! If you plan it out and cannot do all of the things, the I would skip the findlehoff restaurant since the other things are really cool!

      If you want, you can hire one of the electric cars to come get you. But the town was so small. We just walked from the train station to our hotel, which was probably only a 5 to 10 minute walk since the town is so small. I would contact your hotel to see what transportation options they have from the train if you’re concerned.

    • @BrittChrisTravel

      It can be expensive, but if you do it right it can be cheaper! The Swiss pass can be bought here www.sbb.ch/en/leisure-holidays/inspiration/international-guests/swiss-travel-pass.html
      And you can do small stages of the express train! We did not do the entire thing, you just need to know what stops you want to get on and get off at. Some portions of the route are prettier than others so just look around at what portion you would like to ride. You do not need to pay anything to walk around IGLY Dorf itself! There are no tickets just food options you can buy while you are there. Here is their website that may help explain more along with walking directions. www.iglu-dorf.com/en/location/zermatt

    Do we have to do the eight hours of glacier express? What if we don’t have time? Also, travelling in Switzerland seems to involve moving hotels quite a lot. How can we capture the beauty of Switzerland without changing hotels too often? I have an elderly with me. Great channel! Thanks

    • @BrittChrisTravel
      @BrittChrisTravel  Год назад +1

      No you do not need to do 8 hours on the Glacier express. You can get on at anyone of their stops, so you pick where you want to get on and off at. The link to their site is here. www.glacierexpress.ch/en/
      What we did was ride the glacier express one day to Zermatt so we could see all of Switzerland, and then we only stayed in Zermatt so we would not have to change hotels. If you are traveling with an elderly person be careful in winter since there can be snow/ice on the sidewalks!

    We would like to know more about the prices and restaurants and what you eat and accommodation of course.

    • @BrittChrisTravel
      @BrittChrisTravel  2 года назад

      Food: It was pricey to eat out, about $15 to $20 per meal. Zermatt is known for having Michelin star restaurants so you can end up spending a lot. We only ate at a few times since the prices were high. Our favorite places we ate Findlerhof which is number 4 in the video, the Roti was about $15 each. My other favorite was the igloo Fondue which is number 3. We went to Cooper grocery store where they had pre-made items that were a lot cheeper.
      Accommodation: Sadly, the hotel we stayed at is now closed. It was called Sunstar Hotel. I think they may be redoing it so hopefully it will reopen. We like to use hotels.com for booking though since you can find great prices and get stamps you can redeem later!

      If you are scared of heights I would not recommend skiing since the mountains are pretty steep, but you should be fine for the glacier paradise! Its about 12,740 feet above sea level, so pretty high!

      Oh I guess you could but it stops outside of town and then you would have to get another electric taxi to get to your hotel! We found the train was the easiest and most relaxing.

    Excellent video. Zermatt is definitely a city with a unique and breathtaking beauty in the whole world. As such, I only add one point for everyone who sees this video. Natural beauty is free, but what is respectfully served to all visitors is the fruit of a lot of hard, hard work. Most of the people who live there, live to serve for the welfare of visitors. Therefore, respect them. Collect between 500chf and 1000chf and be kind to workers who dedicate all their energy and health to your well-being. If someone carries your 25kg bags for you, why not thank that person with a 10chf or 20chf bill? If a ski instructor lifts you off the ground and helps you on with your boots, why not thank them with a 20chf bill or two? If someone makes your bed and washes your breakfast dishes every day, why not thank them with a 50chf bill?
    Something has unfortunately been missing lately in Zermatt: gratitude.
    No, no one is oblidged to, it is just gratitude.

    • @BrittChrisTravel

      It’s one of the more expensive places, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done cheaply! We flew into Milan for about $700 and took the train into Switzerland to save money. Eating out was pricey so we started eating premade meals from the grocery store. If you plan it right it’s not that expensive!

    Is it worth going around this time of year? I would really like to hike the 5 rivers hike (Blauherd-Sunnega) and check out the igloo if possible... I do not know how to ski :( Also, what's the best + budget-friendly way to get to Zermatt from Zurich to the hiking area and take some photos of the Matterhorn

      If possible try to go about mid December since thats when they start the Iglu Durf and other winter activities. Heres the link to the website with the start date www.iglu-dorf.com/en/location/zermatt
      Chris also did not know how to ski so he took some lessons if thats something you are interested in! It is steep though so be ready for that if you go.
      To get to Zermatt you will have to take a train, i'm not sure which is cheapest. There are tons of websites to find the cheapest train and they usually are not too expensive.
      Let me know if you have any more questions!

    • @gvahlg6001
      @gvahlg6001 Год назад

      you cannot do the normal hikes in outside of summer, the zermatt page has the relevant info. just be prepared this is a relatively expensive trip. You would probably take the train from zurich i don't see any other way really. Then if you want to take the lifts to go up & down, count on 100$ or more.
