Video Guides - Firmware Recovery - GXP Series
There are times when a firmware upgrade doesn't go as planned and the phone is stuck at a booting and just won't completely start up. Well in this episode of Video Guides, we walk you through the process of getting this GXP recovered.
What you'll need to do to set this up is the following:
*Laptop PC with Ethernet capability
*TFTP Software: TFTP of your choice we recommend TFTP32 or TFTPD64
We also provide a step by step on how to set this all up:
1. Use a stand-alone PC and switch
2. Download TFTPD32 or TFPPD64
3. Disconnect the switch from the Internet
4. Set static IP on PC - 192.168.1.10
5. Configure TFTPD32 or 64 as a TFTP server and DHCP server
1. Create scope of 192.168.1.50-55 etc. with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, no gateway is necessary.
2. Make directory at root of PC’s C:\ named TFTP and place the .bin file of the phone series you’re working within that directory
6. Connect Phone - PC via LAN
7. Press all buttons on the left side of the phone’s LCD panel while plugging in power. Hold until LCD starts displaying
8. Phone should get TFTP address from DHCP Option 66 and start upgrading automatically (you can see it in log viewer in TFTPD32).

If I'm not mistaken the video is incomplete and only broke into the reader:
- The part where the IP address of the TFTP Server is needed
- The FW was not needed in the TFTP Server folder (so the player will not do it)
- Moreover it is not indicated to set the IP phone in DHCP (it could be with static local IP)
- The manual format factory procedure in more serious situations is missing
NoB.: Is this procedure valid only for GXP models or even for GRP models?

Yup, the 2 buttons on the left. But this thing is crap, it worked only 2 days before to die again, this time without any recovery possible.

Hello Instructor of this video, after long Press of all button on the left side of display up to LCD starting, it is not working in GXP1610 model. Is it real procedure for GXP1610 model? my creating DHCP Server in TFTPD Server is OK, but when i long press two button of beside of LCD of GXP1610, then it not doing anything and after long time, it's display showing firmware initialing and after end it showing firmware update recovery incomplete.
kindly help me if any body success.

I have a GXP1620 and is having the exact same Recovery Incomplete error. Pressing the 2 line buttons also doesn't do anything.

After upgrading grandstream 2170 became a brick. To restore the phone did everything as in the video. But TFTP server does not see the phone. The phone does not get a DHCP address. Before the upgrade, the phone had a static IP. I managed to find out that by pressing the six keys on the left side, the phone boots and the display shows - Fimware Update - Initiliazing - Fimware Update... But TFTP server didn't see it, so there are no logs. In recovery mode you can ping the phone by static address. How can I restore the phone?
