I had learned to split cards from another source, and have split at least two decks worth that way. The first card I tried using Mr. Silberman's method the card split beautifully. I'll never go back to the other method. The instruction here is great and for some reason--maybe it was a mistake--he actually showed it from the learner's perspective! Why they don't shoot all instructional videos this way I'll never know. Again: the instruction is great and the way it's taught is great. Now I'll probably have to go buy Stratis...drat.

I use what I call "ripper decks". Decks that I find at thrift stores that are used and a few card ruined. I pars out the good ones and use them to make gaffs. Splitting them doesn't cost me $4.00 a pack because I only pay 25¢ per pack. Ripper decks are cool.

Also, something helpful I do to make sure they stay flat after you glue them, I mill them with a rolling pin. And I use glue stick, not liquid. Glue paste was what the elders used some 100 years ago, not liquid because liquid will make the thin paper ripple. And I always apply the glue on the unstripped card first, then attach the stripped face or back. And trim any potential overhang.

Son-of-a-bitch! I have been doing magic since 1973 and have never seen an explanation for splitting cards that was this smooth! I will use this I promise you

There must be something going on with climate, relative humidity, or ambient temperature. I doubt anyone hanging problems with splitting a card is hung up on getting ahold of a layer.. The issue I see here, and everywhere else, is that the thin layer peels itself into nothing, like you have with peeling a label/sticker off of a cardboard box. You get it going but it disintegrates before you get to the edge
