This past spring, I slowly started jogging some during my 3 mile for time videos, • Three Miles for time |... . It scared me. It excited me. I felt encouraged. This Summer I decided to do a Couch to 5K training program. I took it slow and careful. In this video, I share my race day and talk about my most recent weigh in.

I am April Lauren, I am a lifestyle vlogger here on RUclips. My channel grew as I started sharing my weight loss journey. I started at 352.8, miserable and at my highest weight ever. I knew I had to change, and I couldn't keep crash dieting and failing. I am halfway to my weight loss goal of losing 200lbs, and already my life is completely different. Slow and steady has worked for me, and I look forward to continuing my journey. Thanks for encouraging me along my weight loss journey.

Not everyone was raised with supportive and affirmative words. Role modelling is a crucial part of learning that skill. Her hubby filmed her entire race, that’s incredibly supportive. I’d take notice of actions, not only words.
He was also being very literal / truthful / ‘factual’. I think we have learned as a culture now that neurodivergence is real.

Muscles are not heavier than fat. A pound is a pound, but fat does take up more volume than fat. But I do agree, I read recently that sometimes more intense exercise can actually stress out our bodies, especially as we get holder and THEN our bodies actually hold on to that fat. (Yes, I am older at 41, so I understand this) This is most important and interesting if you have PCOS or some metabolic issues. Good luck April, please consider getting a coach or someone to help you plan meals... I know it can be stressful for you and I would love to see you succeed!!

    • @Florita111
      @Florita111 Год назад +1

@@JuliaCantley That’s utter nonsense. By your logic lead isn’t heavier than sand because a pound is a pound. Of course a pound is a pound! Let’s make it a little simpler for you. A cup of muscle weighs more than a cup of fat because muscle is HEAVIER. Just like a cup of lead will weigh considerably more than a cup of sand. You have to account for density of an object.
Muscle weighs 4 times as much as fat. So imagine a person is walking around with 200lbs of jello. Someone could take a scooper and take away 4 scoops of jello, and put back one scoop of steak and the person would weigh the same. Because the steak is heavier.

The first 5km is always the hardest. This is where you have to train your brain more than your body imo, you learn to be in your own head for a sustained amount of time, under physical stress. Once you conquer 5km your mental game steps right up. I say this as an amateur triathlete (sprint right up to ironman distance) who’s started from scratch many times, and each time 5km was my first major milestone. I’ve done runs off the back of 180km bike rides that weren’t as hard as getting to the 5km mark after starting again. Congratulations 🎉 don’t underestimate your achievement 🎉
    ETA:
I’ve also found you can trick your brain when running uphill by looking not as far ahead on the ground: at that distance your brain can’t calculate the slope because it’s not perceived up close (unless it’s really steep!) and if you commit to believing this is true it can work wonders haha

First video of yours I've ever seen and omg, when you went through the gate and hit the blue lined section at the finish line I started crying while shouting "Finish strong, you did it girl!!" (Husband and cat looking at me like I lost my mind lol.) I felt, and feel, so f-ing proud of you!!! You should be so proud of yourself!
I'm going to try and reserve judgment of your husband and his joke/words until after I binge watch some more of your videos to get a feel for his personality. I'd be lying if I said that his reaction didn't make me cry in a different way. Just know that you did amazing coming from where you started and needing to get my own butt moving again I find what you did here so inspirational!
Keep smiling that beautiful bright smile!

That's rad! My 5k time was 42 minutes and i managed to do a 10k at roughly the same pace. This year i'd like to get my 5k time down below 40 minutes. I'm starting again tomorrow! Thanks for the inspiration this was exactly what i needed to get back on the horse.

April, words cannot describe the joy I have in my heart for you! It brought tears to my eyes when you took us through your journey of when you first began...I remember watching you when you walked that first mile and I cried when you went to present day of you running over that bridge, what a beautiful sight! You inspire me, you motivate me and I am encouraged by your efforts. You are such a blessing! Thank you for sharing your journey so that I can be inspired to change my life for the better too. Keep moving forward...ONE STEP AT A TIME! Love and so many hugs!!!🥰

Yeah, I wouldn't focus on the scale because you actually looked smaller while running the 5k. Do you take measurements? That might show a bigger difference than the scale. You've been training for the 5k so you might have gained muscle and probably some extra water weight. With more muscle, your body is burning fat more efficiently so your weight will even out soon. You're on the right track! 💪🏻🧘🏻‍♂

April I am so very proud and happy for you! I have seen every one of your videos and the amount of progress you have made is so incredible!! As I’m sure you know, sometimes in weight loss as we get stronger the scale does go up due to added muscles, but the clothes fit better and the body composition looks better. You look absolutely amazing to me not that you asked or need anybody else’s validation. The fact that you even did a 5K at the pace you were doing it is amazing. I have done a few and let me tell you, i was done for after lol. So please celebrate your accomplishments, celebrate yourself and enjoy. As for the outside noise, take what you feel is valid and toss the rest. Keep Going!!!

This is my first time watching you, but I am so proud of how far you have come! Also, I'm so frustrated at how unsupportive your husband was to you. Your hair looked AMAZING and also, you DID AMAZING! I can't believe he didn't cheer you on more. You seemed like you were so proud of yourself and then when he was discouraging to you (and whatever he said that was cut out), you looked upset and disappointed at your experience. Don't let him cloud your experience! :) :) Keep it going, girl!

You are an absolute rockstar!! I used to weigh 300lbs and I started running 3 years ago. It is much harder than anyone could ever imagine. Just remember, it’s just a hard to run slow and for more time as it is to run the fastest. It’s not about how fast you are, it’s about still pushing when your mind is telling you to stop. You did better than alright! You absolutely killed it!!

I'm a 15st guy with an active physical job who walks a lot an I've just started couch to 5k week 1 and I struggled running 60 seconds 😅 each time for 8 mins so to see what you achieved is incredible 🎉
