My friend has a sleeve 3 months ago and so far all is going well. She was told that after the surgery she would need b12 injections for life and have to take certain vitamins. She was late on getting her first b12 shot and started getting deficiency symptoms which was shocking to me as it is still early on in her journey. Anyway, like I said, she is doing well and has lost a lot of weight so as long as there are no complications down the line, the surgery definitely has its benefits. On the other hand, it hasn’t stopped her eating junk food, but she is working on it and there are definite improvements. It’s worth mentioning that there are foods that are labelled ‘slider foods’ such as chips, (crisps UK) which are easy to over eat so she still needs to exercise control. My observation is this, if my friend wants to get to goal and remain there, she still needs to do some work. Surgery isn’t a fix all solution.

I am so freaking happy for you. I had Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery over 15 years ago. I lost over 150 pounds, became a distance runner and an avid weight lifter. I had to completely change my lifestyle and eating habits, but I’ve kept it off and have built a lot of muscle. Everyone else I know that has had the surgery, has unfortunately gained all the weight back, plus some. However, I know that you can lose all the weight and keep it off. I’m so excited for you. You’re going to do amazing!

April, I totally identify with your journey. I suffer from depression and will likely take meds for the rest of my life, but therapy and understanding the why's, challenging your negative thoughts, knowing your pattern and getting tools to help you break out of the cycle are all really important pieces to unlock to contribute to your success. I am also someone who never wanted surgery, but am seriously considering it since I am speeding towards 50 years old but am in worse shape physically than my 80 year old parents. I want a better quality of life from here on out and I wish that for you too. Your past dedication proves you can do this! But please, continue to explore your mental health as way to take care of yourself and staying healthy.

I had a RNY 20 years ago and lost 170 lbs (300 to 130) I kept it off for about 10 years until slowly weight started to creep back on (about 70 ) The thing is once I decided to get back to my post-op diet and habits that weight also came off. Like you said it is a tool! I would also like to thank you because your channel actually help me get back to those habits.

I know there will be weirdos out there who tell you that you took the easy way out. Don’t listen to that crap bc they haven’t been there. Those of us who have had WLS know it’s so much work. I had the lap band 11 years ago and lost 150 lbs. I got comfortable and eventually gained 100 back. I’ve since lost that 100 plus 10 lbs. I’ve got 45 lbs to go and it’s hard work especially as you get smaller. For the first time in my life I enjoy exercising and feel so much stronger. Do you think you’ll ever get back to hiking and running? Also, your husband seems great. It’s so important to have a supportive spouse.

Congratulations for doing what's best for you. People will tell you that you will gain the weight back and it's not true, if you use it the way you're supposed to. I got weight loss surgery almost 8 years ago. Last year I gained 30lbs and I've lost about 25 of them, easily. My suggestion is to focus on your diet so you can form your new lifestyle. Keep your food to single ingredient things, don't try and find ways to have your favorite things, at least not at first. Keep it very simple, give yourself a year. After the year then have what you want in moderation. Moderation we are talking bi monthly and monthly NOT WEEKLY OR DAILY. You can do this

I had my DS 2009. I lost & have maintained my over 200lb weight loss.
It’s a big & powerful surgery. It’s the Cadillac of wls. I’ve had many struggles.
I had years of battling malnutrition.
I had years of chronic illnesses where my intestines would block off.
I’ve had two revisions to my original surgery to increase my common channel for more absorption to keep my weight and nutrients.
I think it’s an amazing surgery but it requires dedication and commitment to following your plan and getting vital nutrients.
I think wish you the absolute best with your new DS!

You’re welcome April. If you ever have a question, I’d be happy to help.
I have one warning, medical professionals, for the most part, will not quite understand your surgery.
Keep a copy of a diagram in your purse with your surgeons info.
I just recently had this experience with a gastroenterologist 🙄
I was set up for a colonoscopy and mentioned during consultation that there’s a portion of my intestines they cannot see with that test.
      Completely ignored.
I had the test and during the time he met with my husband and I to give results,
My husband mentioned my common channel again and you could finally see it CLICK- ohhhhhh, and he immediately said I’d need a different test ordered called a bowel series.
Trust me, you will encounter this with all types of professionals and you have to advocate for yourself.
Anyway, so PROUD of you! 👍🏻 let’s rock this DS!

Weight gain is such a complex thing and it's so frustrating sometimes trying to fight it on your own. April, I had to comment after I heard you say that you keep failing. Everyone will agree that you are no failure, in fact you have been an inspiration to many people. I am lucky that I have never had over thirty pounds to lose but I know how hard that is for me. And I know it isn't just eating and exercising right, if it was, well girl you would be at your goal a long time ago. The body is a complication machine, and we are daily enticed with food and drink,, and it's so F ing unfair that we can't at least eat what we want without gaining weight. Anyway, I have watched your channel because I saw a strong, determined woman with the sweetest personality and cheered for her. I’m so grateful you shared this! As someone who had weight loss surgery, I was saddened by your prior opinions on it. I know it’s not for everyone, but I do believe many are closed minded about it without enough research. I’m so glad you were able to research and get all your questions answered by your medical team. I’m also so happy you shared this for people who may share your previous mindset. Wishing you all the best and am looking forward to more videos when you want to make them ❤

April I really hope the best for you and all the weight loss but your main problem is the food you eat and how much. I have suffered with depression my whole life and when I started eating whole foods and resistance training it's sooo much better and no medication! And loss weight very easily its not hard just eat whole foods. Please know that food is the problem!!

Keep working on your mental health. Even with weight loss surgery, if you don't fix that, you will still gain it back. You're on the right track though. I'm rooting for you.

I saw you at a restaurant in Hawaii and I wanted so badly to say hi, but I wasn’t sure if that would’ve felt like an invasion of privacy. I think I might have stared a little too hard. If I could’ve said something in that moment, it would have just been that I love you and you’re amazing! I fell in love with your RUclips channel because of the essence of ~you~. You are an incredible person. We are here for ~you~. We support you in your journey. Every part of it.
