I started running last year, when I got to a whopping 8 minutes in a row, I was flabbergasted with myself. EIGHT MINUTES. Then one day, I just didn't limit myself and I ran for 40 mins straight, to my absolute shock. It absolutely blew my mind. You can do this!
Running has literally saved my sanity since having my baby, it's the only me time I get and I feel so much more refreshed and energised after I've done a run. Good luck with the half marathon!
I haven't run in 4 years and I have probably run about 15 times in my life and I just started using this app this week and Tuesday is run three. It's honestly been so difficult haha BUT as an absolute beginner I've genuinely been enjoying it!!!!
As a competitive runner, this made me so happy to hear you have caught "the running bug"! I also consider running my guilt-free me time. I hope you have a lot of fun and success with your running journey!
I just ran my first half a few weeks ago and it feels so amazing when you finish the race! Never thought I could run over three miles until I started to train. Good luck & you will do great!
I just had my second baby. Not shedding the weight as fast as I did with my first. 3 more weeks until I’m cleared to exercise so I’m happy to have seen this! Lululemon is an investment but I have had mine for literally years and lasted me 2 pregnancies and are the only pair out of all ranging from cheap to lulu price that’s left and still looks brand new! Worth the investment!
I’m doing couch to 5k and I’m on week 4, getting my butt out of bed at 5am is bloody hard. I’m 55 and was worried about my dodgy knee but it actually seems to be getting better with the running. Great video and useful tips, thanks but it’s a no to the sports bra I may have manboobs lol but I draw a line here 😂
So proud of you, Emily! 💛 I won't be running any marathon anytime soon, but I'm also trying to lose weight. Not only that, but strengthening my lungs. I'm asthmatic and a lot of my doctors have recommended me to start running. What's crazy is that it just so happens that you're starting your running journey too! Good luck to us! 💪🏻🏃🏻♀️💨 P.S. You look amazing!
I love this so much! I used to be a runner before marriage and kids! And it’s so funny that you really do fall in love and get somewhat addicted to it, and you want to spread the word! Keep it up! I’ve been running for years and still haven’t committed fully to a half marathon, even though that is my goal every year. Keep it up! Such an inspiration.
So proud of you and thanks for sharing to inspire all of us! I was a big marathoner runner before having my daughter, but she is almost 3, and I have not run much since her birth. This video is encouraging me to get back out there - and I can also push her in the jog stroller if needed. Keep up the great work!
I really enjoyed this video! I am a RUclips mom and runner as well and it is definitely nice to get out and be alone for a change! I am so impressed with your half marathon goal! I know you can do it!
I’ve just finished week three and I’m loving it as someone who has never really exercised let alone running! Watching this has motivated me to keep going ☺️ Thank you!
I love the Nike Run Club app! I like listening to the coaches talk occasionally, it’s not constant chatting, but there’s loads of different coaches and I love it!
Omg Emily i can def see that is working, u look slim around ur arms and ur face, well done such a fab cause to be supporting and it’s doing u well - COs you seem extra happy- u were always happy hence the extra part! Definitely feeling motivated. Love ur videos always xx
I totally get you! I used to run last summer while my husband watch the kids after his work...and I hate running...but running for fun...to get out of the house was my motivation...just having that me time, listen to my music and have fun! I miss that... being home with the kids all day is hard .. running is my scape! We are worth it ;)

I'm very proud of you, Emily, you're such a good example for us moms. I'm so happy you're dedicating some time for yourself to do something you enjoy, challenges you and makes you feel great. We should all do something in that way, whatever it is. I'm also guilty of that! Good luck with the trainnings, can't wait for more updates! 💪💪💪
This was great! I’ve been wanting to try to get up to a 5K, but didn’t really know where to start. I’m having surgery in a week, and am hoping that after I recover I can finally get back to the gym, and feeling good again! (“Taking it easy”-ugh! “Easy” has me feeling lethargic and huffing just from walking up a few stairs! 👎🏻👎🏻) I love your perspective and your tips, and I’m so glad it’s giving you confidence! Please do an update video soon! 😘
I’m loving the app I’m on week 7 feeling so much better mentally and physically. I had my 2nd baby in feb and probably my last so really want to get in shape. Great video. Xx
This video couldn't have come at a better time! I just started running last week to build my strength and endurance. I notice my foot hurting during my run so I will have to make sure I get the right running shoes now. Thank you for sharing!!
Once you can run the 5k easily 10k is absolutely doable. Once you can run 10k the half marathon is doable. I always did 5k runs because that's the size of the running track close to my house but from that it only took 1-2 months to be able to run the half marathon which we did with my husband few years ago (before baby). So go Emily, you can do it too! 😊
Amazing goal to work towards. Good luck Emily and keep up the hard work! So inspiring for a current couch potato who is dreaming of getting back into running after having a baby...... two years ago 😂.
You are just lovely Emily! You are right, some mothers, me included, feel a lot of guilt when doing something for ourselves! I will consider running, used to and gave it up after my first.
I love fast walking,I've never bn a runner either, nor has my friend and she is doing the couch to 5k too and doing really well too!! She also spent a lot if money on gd trainers too lol aww it made me all emotional u saying that was ur only guilt free time, self care is so important and u are an amazing mummy and deserve it in shed loads xx
Go for it Emily!! I started walk/run then but now I am a six star chaser marathoner and I am not a sporty kind of girl. With running it is so addicting and it changed me a lot in terms with discipline, commitment with training. you have to love running so that everytime you run the experience will be enjoyable. The next thing you know you already ran 21k marathon. You can do it. Training is the key. Good luck , Emily ! :)
Great video! As a road marathoner for the past 5 years, I'm always looking for new tips on motivation, getting stronger and preventing dreaded injuries. I love your approach to getting healthy. Your post is very inspirational. As a fellow RUclipsr, I love sharing my knowledge and experiences to help other runners. I know how much goes into these videos! Keep posting - I just subscribed!
I'm happy that you have joined the "running mothers team" :) I love running, I have run 4 marathon and many more half-marathon... I'm not athletic, I was always bad at PE, but I gained a lot of confidence from running... so I think you are at the right place :) Asics and runkeeper are the best 😉🥰 Ps.: Take care if you go for evening run... share it with Mat where you are.
Ah I love reading this Eva. Thanks for the tip, Matt can track me and I always run with someone, and never at night to be honest. Thank you so much for watching xx
Thank you so much for sharing your running adventure! I have fallen in love with walking. I do an uphill and downhill walk with my dogs. We go as often as the weather and schedule will allow. I found your tips and advice super helpful and inspiring. Taking good care of yourself is physical, spiritual, emotional, financial etc. When we invest into ourselves we are also investing into our loved ones. Thank you for being transparent with us. I wish you all the very best for your upcoming half marathon!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
These are great tips for couch to 5k! I lead a lot of these programs and have gotten some more tips and suggestions to provide to my clients. Good running shoes and being professionally fit is the best investment you can make! Helpful, thanks!
This video was so perfect!! I’ve had the app on my phone for a while but just never got round to using it. This has definitely motivated me to really give it a go xx
I do love the idea of not needing to go for a gym and being started as soon as you're out the door! Plus the time you get to yourself would be a really nice perk!
Good luck on your running journey. I did an inflatable 5k run recently it was great fun and lots of them are surible for kids too. I'm doing another one next week. You might find that when you start doing longer distances you need to eat a bit more, I found that if I ate around 2000 calories on run days I would run a lot better and longer and would burn more calories over all.
I’ve just started too and I LOVE it! I need to look more in to what it eat to fuel the run better. The Apple Watch is great. The one that tracks your heart rate is great. It shows you on a map of where you went how good your heart rate in red, amber and green. So if the map is showing a lot of green then you can tell it was probably easy route for you x
I was also very curvy and developed starting in elementary, so most of my child hood I got harassed and made fun of. It made me even more insecure than I already was. But as I grew up I started not to care what people thought or said because I only know what I am and who I am. I have also recently started exercising outside so this video is great timing for me!
I totally enjoyed your video. Thanks for posting! I am interested in running channels as it is so hard to find, especially moms. Thanks for giving all of us hope of success and options. Cheers!
Hey! I think in 2014 I did the couch to 5k and i loved it. It's a great achievement when you get on the week when you run 20 minutes straight. Back then I never thought I'd run 20 mins straight! Last year I ran a half marathon which was on my bucket list! ... I've been very lazy this year tho!! Good luck :)
I know this video is a couple years old but thanks for all the great info. Also, Asics are some of the best running shoes I've ever used. Specifically the Gel Kayano's. I've used Nike's, Hoka's and Adidas, as well, but the Asics worked best for me so far. I've heard great things about Brooks, though, so I might try those next.
I started the couch to 5k but couldn't finish because my baby kept crying in the morning when I got ready to run. You have motivated me to start again.
Well done Emily! As a runner and someone who has done a half and full marathon; as your mileage increases your calorie budget will change and you will eat to fuel your run and for recovery. Also glad you got proper fitted running shoes as makes all the difference. Try keep track of miles that you run in them as every 600 miles or so need to change them 😊 yes running can be expensive lol 😂 ps I used to run for praline lol xx
Love this video. 👌 I am a runner (dont get to run as often as I'd like to anymore have 2 young children), but it positively affects every aspect of your life. So great job! I believe you'll accomplish your goal!
Running is extremely important for mental health and well-being trail running is also good and cycling. I also do martial arts it’s changed my outlook and life in general joining a community club is a must as well
I have a really cheeky/personal question, you don't have to answer if you don't want! After having 3 babies do you have any bladder weakness? If so what products do you use for running and have you noticed a difference/improvement in your pelvic floor after running?
I did couch 2 5k with my friend 2 years ago fell pregnant at the end of it...was getting back into it when my baby turned 1 and my appendix burst so currently trying to get back into it but all my friends have kept the running up so i feel behind now need to start somewhere tho. Thanks for the tips def motivates me to get back at it as i miss it so much. Keep it up!! Xx
Good luck Emily! It's so nice to see more and more people get into running and truly loving it. Can't wait to get back into it when my baby's big enough
Love that you're raising money for Great Ormond Street! My little boy had an operation there when he was 1, we were there for over two weeks in recovery and it was just such an amazing place to be. Good luck with your training!
Just watched ur video and really feel inspiring! Please, please keep updating about ur running ‘cause i’m a new runner, too! I’m a mom of two and in 50’s. Greetings from Thailand!
Just done day two of week one of couch to 5k! Loving it! Just used my new running belt too! Omg! Life changing, not having to hold my keys or my phone! Haha. Great tips! Thanks! New subscriber ☺️
Your making me want to go running! I used to be a really good runner years ago when I was in school but since having my children I can’t even run up the stairs without being out of breath! 🙈🤣 😘 xxx
Hi Emily I’m proud of why your going to do this marathon for GOSH They are such an amazing children’s Hospital. I have spent a lot of my childhood there as I was born with a very rare genetic disorder and I feel now looking back at all the appointments and hospital stays they maid the experience less scary not just for me but for my parents and my three older siblings and I’m sure that this goes for many other families that have a child who is being cared for by this amazing hospital. Thank you
Emily, you seem like such a nice and positive human being. You're so cute when you talk about the calorie budget and blush :) - it makes total sense! Good luck and wish you health and success! I am trying to get back into running after a gap of 20 years. Body is very different with much more wear and tear. Thanks for the tips and motivation.
I'm currently 27 weeks pregnant with baby no 2 and stressing about the weight loss afterwards as I never lost it with my first so I'm just getting heavier and heavier( definitely feel the pressure of it on my body achy joints headaches etc) so I may do couch to 5k after to improve my health and I love my fitness pal it's my best friend when I'm not pregnant I used it everyday.
Well done Emily! Couple of questions for a total running beginner - do you take your phone with you on every run so the app ‘tells you’ when to run/walk? And how did you begin to plan your route (I can’t work out where to run to before I need to turn back if that makes sense!) Thanks! x x
Well done Emily! I used to walk/run away from but I kept getting pains in my knees too. I never heard of having your gait(sp?) done. I'm definitely going to to look into that. Our youngest goes to a childminder twice a week and I'm feeling like I want start looking after me again. Not for weight loss but I'm so tired all the time. This video is so helpful xxx
The calorie budget is a great way to look at it, I do the same with WW points. I really need to get back in to running. I started running with the correct shoes etc but had to stop due to an injury and just haven’t started again. Definitely time to start again. Good luck training
I’m curious how do you do with the hair. When I used to go running, I had to wash my hair everyday 🤷♀️ but now (home with a baby) my washing frequency is 5 days. Is there a good trick you’ve found? Thank you 😘
Emily I’m so happy you have a new passion, my sister in law has done the same thing as you and now she runs full marathons & shes 49 & a mum of 3 too 💗💗💗
I just started running this week . I literally haven’t ran since I was a senior school about 20 years ago and that was only for a bus 😂😂😂 I have only been twice and took my dog , it’s actually really really uplifting. I really struggle to run for more than a min I think so I have been having a little run then power walk . I can’t wait to go once I drop the 3 boys off at school this morn ! I got a brilliant new dog lead from amazon to try too for hands free 😂😂😂 I just downloaded this 5k app . Hopefully I’ll find it easier with some direction xx thanks for video xx
Good luck Emily ! 😊 I used to be super athletic at school. After having my little boy in July, I definitely aim at getting fit again. You’re so inspirational xx
Great video as always Emily. My Bubba is due in 2 weeks so getting itchy feet to get my running gear back on and back to running club. Just make sure you're eating enough calories especially on run days. Your app says you burn 250 cals/run but there's something called afterburn that once you're done you body still burns cals at a higher rate for hours afterwards. If you're eating 1300 then burning 250 plus afterburn you may not be getting enough and your body can go into starvation mode and hang onto what stores you have and not allow you to lose 'the dough' great term by the way 😂 Also always eat before a run too, even a banana is enough to fire your metabolism, I've done it both ways over the years and it's so much better with something in your tummy. Let us all know the sponsor link once it's up, we will definitely sponsor you lovely. Keep up the great work and try get to a Saturday parkrun too, there will be one in your area. Always a 5k and super motivation from other runners and the marshals that volunteer 👍👍👍
I was just waiting for one of these. Perfect timing I've tried running with my dog and really enjoy it. Deffenetly getting the gear made me want to run even more. I'm a young girl and get what you mean my mum always tells me to keep up the sport so I now play football and go on runs once on a while.Im always getting teased though as I am the only girl on my football team but I really enjoy it and wouldn't give it up for anything
I totally get your analogy of the calories. I started being more "mindful" of what passes my lips at the beginning of the year and logging in My Fitness Pal and thinking about eating/ drinking before doing has really helped. I have never denied myself anything - just increased exercise to buy more calories! :0) Well done on your achievement - I'm sure you will succeed! xx
Yes that all made sense Emily!! I actually downloaded the Couch to 5k app a few weeks ago.... but i have yet to find time to use it! 😫 i work full time so only have weekends, but this vid has inspired me to find time, i will def do it!! x
I actually just started running a couple of months ago and I do the same thing I break away for 20-30 minute runs and I can usually get 2-2 1/2 miles in in that amount of time but it’s perfect because I’m getting some me time and I’m also avoiding the mom guilt of leaving my son to go to the gym which always takes me away from the house for at least an hour. I’m running a 5k next month and I’m super excited and I’m hoping to run it in 35 minutes or less. Good luck with your half marathon Emily 😀 great video 👍🏻
Found this really motivating Emily, thank you x I have a just-turned 2 yr old & used to enjoy exercise, but since having her I feel its so tricky to balance time & I constantly make excuses re: exercise. It is making me feel really low tho, so I know it’s time to get started. Thank you xxx
This was perfectly timed and so encouraging for me!! I’ve always been intimidated by running, but I think I’m going to try some of the apps you mentioned!! Thanks for keeping it real and sharing your story!
Such a fab video! I’m two months postpartum and am looking forward to getting back into running when I get some sleep!! The app MapMyRun links back into MyFitness pal and automatically adds your run. I think they’re both made by the same developer. Wishing you lots of luck with all your training! X
Great video thanks Emily. I’m looking to start running again, my youngest son is now nearly 7 months already so I’m running out of excuses haha! Good luck with your half marathon, you’ll smash it I’m sure xxx
That’s great Emily! I’m glad you find running enjoyable too. I need to get back to running for all the same exact reasons you mentioned and I feel the exact same way too. I also feel guilty when doing something for myself. This is true and so motivating, running is a healthy habit and good for you in so many ways. Thank you for all your videos and good luck on your 5K marathon in October! You’ve got this! 🏃♀️ 👍 😊
I started running last year, when I got to a whopping 8 minutes in a row, I was flabbergasted with myself. EIGHT MINUTES. Then one day, I just didn't limit myself and I ran for 40 mins straight, to my absolute shock. It absolutely blew my mind. You can do this!

Imma need a 'near death to 5k' guide.
Not run in years.
I felt the same way until I crossed the finish line. You can do it.
I’m on week 5. I had to take a month to work on just being able to walk for 30 minutes first THEN I started c25k and it’s so great.
Keep at it!
I need that too 🤣🤣🤣, starting this tomorrow
I haven't run in 4 years and I have probably run about 15 times in my life and I just started using this app this week and Tuesday is run three. It's honestly been so difficult haha BUT as an absolute beginner I've genuinely been enjoying it!!!!
Just started this and I’m dying on week one already but I really want to enjoy running so wish me luck!
Veronica Sendor it will deffo happen’ trust me I started 2 weeks ago and I love it now and before I could barely run!!
You got this!
I was the same now I'm on week 4! X
Good luck 😉! You can do this! 🤩

I might just try it out for myself
Thank you so much for watching Abby xx
This video was so perfect!! I’ve had the app on my phone for a while but just never got round to using it. This has definitely motivated me to really give it a go xx
Thank you so much for watching xx
I do love the idea of not needing to go for a gym and being started as soon as you're out the door! Plus the time you get to yourself would be a really nice perk!
I've been thinking of joining a gym to try and get rid of this "mum tum" but this couch to 5k sounds so so good!
Cheers!
Love it! I did this (couch to 5k) years ago and it works! Im downloading the app again. 🤗 thanks Emily!!
CormacksGirl Most girls/mummies avoid running/ jumping on trampoline.
I prefer Orbitrek cross trainer than running.
You have to do kegel excercises. I have had 3 kids and even sneezing is scary lol
You can do pelvic floor exercise to rehabilitate your muscles there. I did, and it helped.
This made me chuckle!!! I have to wear a pad when running after three babies. It’s the only time I have ‘accidents’ 🤣🤣
You need to get physical therapy! It's amazing! You should not be leaking after babies even though so many women do. It's not normal!
As a fellow budget freak and newbie to c25k I completely understand your analogy. Thanks never thought of it like that!
Thank you so much for watching from Thailand xx
Just done day two of week one of couch to 5k! Loving it! Just used my new running belt too! Omg! Life changing, not having to hold my keys or my phone! Haha. Great tips! Thanks! New subscriber ☺️
Your making me want to go running! I used to be a really good runner years ago when I was in school but since having my children I can’t even run up the stairs without being out of breath! 🙈🤣 😘 xxx
Thats me, hoping to put an end to it!! Thank you so much for watching xx
You are so authentic! Loved this video. Great tips. Have a great day! Xoxo
Week 6. Running 5 minute increments thus far. Feeling good/confident and looking forward to running now!
Great video. I’ve been wanting to start running for ages. I think today will be the day :) Great motivation!
Love this Emily! Funnily I've just joined a local running club and I'm really enjoying it need to get the belt xxx
Its so good. Thank you so much for watching Sara xx
Every Sunday morning my whole family go either on a big family run or a family bike ride and we love it so much 💜😀🧡😀💙😀💚😀💛😀💛😀🐞🐞
Well done Emily!
Take up a combination of weight training and running.
If you're eating 1300 then burning 250 plus afterburn you may not be getting enough and your body can go into starvation mode and hang onto what stores you have and not allow you to lose 'the dough' great term by the way 😂
Also always eat before a run too, even a banana is enough to fire your metabolism, I've done it both ways over the years and it's so much better with something in your tummy.
Well done on your achievement - I'm sure you will succeed!
You are such a ray of sunshine!! Thanks for the video it’s was incredibly helpful(:
I started running after my first daughter and I love it now. You can totally do it! Great goal!
Thank you so much for watching xx
Great ideas! I will start soon, now that summer is coming. I love your videos. I am a new mum and your videos are so helpful.😊
I love the "Calorie budget" idea😍
Ha me too!! Thank you so much for watching xx
@@mrsemilynorris thank you!!
Please will you reccomend the best running shoes. Many thanks 😊
Love these running tips Emily! Thank you. More more more please! You’ve definitely inspired me to get out there and have a go 😊
