This series of videos is absolute gold, I have a a stock spyder with the 1zz and was on the fence about keeping it as it burns oil... Seeing how simple the removal is and having a step by step has encouraged me to keep it and do the 2zz swap. Thanks for this priceless resource man!

That's awesome to hear. This is my first time removing a motor, and I wanted to make the resource I wish I had. You just kinda validated the effort so thank you. Feedback has been good, so as long as people find it useful, I'll keep making them.

@@IGDesigns My 2zz and trans arrives tomorrow. This video is by far the best step by step I have come across. I too will be doing my first swap and was very apprehensive but this guide makes me feel much more confident. THANK YOU.

Can't believe how much work you did without air/power tools. I've done a Civic short block, MT, A/C, PS, under warranty, in 5 hours (paid 8.5hs warranty time). Air/power tools (and a lift) helped.

    • @IGDesigns
      @IGDesigns  2 года назад +1

Yeah pretty minimal setup and I'm kinda happy because I feel like it shows people it's possible with minimal tools. This was back when I was renting a storage unit, I could barely squeeze between the wall and the car haha.
5 hours is still an impressive time, even with air tools.

Great vid. Really simplified the seemingly mammoth task of removing my 1ZZ.
It'll take some time but honestly I was expecting this to be much much worse of a process.
    Thanks a ton!

Dude the series you created with the engine removal was really helpful. I'm doing a k24 swap mr2 spyder and this gave me very detailed information in removing the motor with confidence! Kudos to you 🤙

That's the goal! I'm glad it was helpful, I'm just trying to make the resource I wish I had so people don't make the same mistakes. Good luck with your k24 swap, I hope it goes quicker than mine. I'm starting to release those videos too, so feel free to check them out. Let me know how it goes.

I had no idea how easy it is to remove the engine!
You even don’t need an engine hoist!

    Hello IG Designs
Thank you for posting your videos and I have learned from them. I am, as of 05/30/2019 pulling engine, and it is only in place by the drivers transmission mount and passenger engine mount.
That being stated, you have not done the swap community much more info.
The hardest parts were not covered:
    1) Fuel line disconnect: in your video, the lower line was "freed" when removing the secondary safety lock (white plastic elbow). This is dangerous for your build, and I recommend you replace the fuel line as the primary lock has failed. Great videos from Frank Saab, search MR2 Spyder for dummies.
    2) Removing drivers side axle from transmission. You damaged axle. Please reference videos by Stark Reality or Frank Saab. This in not easy, but can be if you watch the videos.
    3) Shifter cables stay clips are a "B-och", but again Frank Saab and replace clips with new.
    4) PDC/Fuse box: removing engine harness high amp cable to engine harness. Watch Frank Saab.
    5) Slave cylinder at front trans/engine mount is captive. Mount on firewall can not be removed from vehicle unless planning to bleed clutch system (although not a bad idea based on the age of these cars).
    6) Drain ALL fluids b/4 starting project.....don't mean to sound harsh, but you are guiding people that follow.
Looking forward to completion of your project and it is a darn shame that previous owner would put a 2zz in, but leave the 1zz pre-cat behind.
    Mr. P

Thanks for the feedback, I'm learning as I go, my first time doing anything like this. I leave mistakes in because I'm not going to get it perfect and I want someone who follows to not make the same mistakes I do.

      Hello IG Designs,
You are doing a wonderful job with the videos you have posted and you have my respect, especially for posting things gone wrong instead of trying to hide it. I wish I could do as you have, but most times working late hours and hard to get a "wing man" for vids.
Please do not take my comments as negative, I just believe you can do better and focus on the hard points that everyone does not film because they are a pain in the A$$.
I look forward to more videos!
      Cheers,
      Mr. P

I’m pulling my motor Friday. I’m on step 2 but I forgot to unhook the clutch slave cylinder. I also thought about trying to leave my muffler on the car and swinging it out of the way. Now I think I’ll be removing it.
Also after watching I think I’ll try to raise the car more. It’s already pretty high in the rear.
Huge thanks for these 3 videos bro. Are you on Spyderchat?

No problem, I wanted to help people out that were in my shoes so I tried my best to make a complete guide.
I was on spyderchat posting but stopped updating my thread and people weren't happy about my going to Kswap. I still lurk every now and then.
