I love how much the two of you show your love in the cockpit, both the gestures and how you speak to him.
Lovely to see you taking the family away and being so focused on their wellbeing. Great job!
Congratulations on flying your family away for a holiday break Jon. Quite an achievement! Thank you for posting.
Thanks Kevin.
What a great little family 👌👍👍
Enjoyed video greatly and seems James is getting more relaxed. Bertie seems very relaxed indeed. Glad you finally got to fly you all for a weekend break ✈️
Thanks Stewart.
Brilliant jon, what a lovely family you have, you should be very proud.
Truly proud of my little family, thank you/
Fantastic Jon and that music, as you were coasting out, was just awesome!! You did a nice coordinated turn as you were climbing out of Redhill too, really enjoyed that vid thank you.
Thank you David.
I know you've had loads of comments like this but I had no idea you were gay. That's amazing and I bet Bertie is so happy, you and James look fantastic. OR is looking good as well, another great video!
Thank you.
Krister Sjödin it’s not really especially, I just think it’s really great and confident to tell such a place like RUclips that your gay. There’s a lot of haters on this platform but his fans and supporters are clearly well understanding and all around a awesome group of people.
Heartwarming video in man ways. Thanks for sharing this.
Nice video Jon. Really pleased for you that you got to fly with the family and great for us that you shared the trip. I thought Bertie was very quiet in the back then came up with hid gem of "You're welcome!" he always makes me smile :-)
He's cheeky Tim!!!
Another great video Jon. I got my PPL some 10 years ago but let my flying lapse due to family and work..... you have inspired me to get back into it and to start exploring beyong the UK airspace.....well done for another great flight !
That's excellent Seb. Thanks.
Your flying is calm and collected therefore your family is calm and collected........though your flying has no control over Bertie and bottle filling. I have to ask how big was the bottle?
It's big enough for one!
Excellent video thanks for sharing I have flown there myself a few times but never via France so this was an interesting insight to a different route.
Bertie always makes me laugh :) Well done to James for keeping it together, despite being nervous. I can't wait to fly my family to Islay or similar! Another great video, Jon, and more touching than most :)
Thanks Scott. Appreciate it.
Counting down the days until I can do similar trips! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
It is the best feeling ever, to fly people somewhere....love it!
Loving the fact I am watching your vids for the first time. Can’t wait to do this trip. Back up in the sky today after 6 weeks, 1 hour closer to ppl!!
Another superb video Jon, very informative
Thank you Simon !
That's what private flying is all about, treating the family to a lovely weekend overseas. Excellent video as always, keep up the good work, I'm learning so much from your videos.
Thank you for watching Robbie.
Awesome video thank you for sharing
Hi. Great so see you and your husband enjoying flying. Same as me and my husband here in Australia. Go girl!
Thank you Ethan.
Great trip Jon, glad you could take the short cut on the way back !
Thank you for sharing your family adventure
My pleasure.
I think I've read about this on your website before 🤔
It's great to see your family benefitting from your PPL 😁
Thanks for watching Tim.
Since finding you on RUclips I’ve looked forward to seeing a new video released by you, I’m only a sim pilot so like the detail and explication you give as you fly or in videos that are about flight plan filing etc. Allowing us into you professional, creative and family life is refreshing. Thank you for sharing Jon
Thanks Graeme.
Great video Jon and Bertie is such a character!
He is a star!
Another great video. Really helpfull and informative for me as I have just entered into purchasing a PA28. Keep the videos coming.
Found your channel at the start of lockdown, now addicted ! Thanks for sharing. So much stuff to watch and really informative..just brilliant !
Thanks for coming along.
Wow such a beautiful video... right now I feel like going on a proper adventure ✈️
Glad you enjoyed it.
Great footage. Nicely flown!
Thanks!
Awesome video Jon and fantastic to see your family
Thanks.
Thank you for letting us tag along.
Thanks for watching Laura.
Once again thanks for sharing as ever excellent piloting skills and informative. Great to see Birty enjoying himself and hope James enjoyed it too? Once again thanks.
I think he secretly did. Thanks Brian.
Great video Jon I loved my trip to Jersey this summer but extra special with your family
Thanks. It's a great destination.
Camera shots are amazing.I didn't know that the wheel spats moved up with the wheels!!! Very interesting flight
Thanks for watching Anthony.
Great flight Jon, James was very brave and appearing on camera, lovely film.
Thanks!
Hi Jon. Great video. One of those places I'm looking forward to visiting myself hopefully one day soon! Looking forward to more adventures. Take care. Steven.
Thanks Steven.
Hi Jon! Stuart here ( I'm the chap that pulled your leg about your washing line in the back ground!) Just been watching your Epic Journey, Three words Jon..... Woh, Woh and Woh! Absolutely superb, and flying around clouds over unknown territory with your ipad playing up what a cool cookie you are! massive respect and a fantastic adventure thank you so much for sharing. Not sure you should let James hear you enjoyed being frisked by the Security Officer tho! I must contact Richard as Stapleford is my nearest airfield and sadly I'm still a Lasped PPL. Maybe I will see you all there one day, hope you had a great time in Jersey!
Thanks Stuart.
Great video as always! Nice finally seeing you and your family fly together! Just one thing- make sure you’re pulling the mixture back. Don’t need it full rich when descending at 8000 feet or even cruising. Just saves your plugs a bit, that’s all :)
I do lean.
Great video love it !!
thanks for watching.
John, thank you for another well made video. James's video was inside out and this could be quite dangerous should it need to be inflated, it may be worth checking his familiar with it for the next flight. Fly safe!
Well spotted. Thank you.
You greased that landing, Jon 👍🏼
It happens. now and then!
You did make me laugh...over the ocean. "On a scale of 1-10, how nervous are you now?"!!!
I know!!!!
Great video Jon, I like all of them including the mistakes too! I'm just starting to fly from Deanland in the C42 I think you flew...….. locally I see your news reports too! Well done to James too and Bertie he may be a future pilot in the making (Bertie that is!) he seems very relaxed. Well done to you all and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching.
@01:09: G-ZI downwind... G-IZ, oh this is confusing. Sounded for a brief moment you included that audio snippet to cast us back to the early years at Biggin? I claim my prize Jon. You tease. I am trying to get my husband into the right seat of my C172. He has mobility problems but also has a problem with EasyJet too... We're getting there. Love to your family Jon. Thanks for making your private moments public :)
Keep trying, it's so worth it.
We are family too x
James looks like he’s been kidnapped! 😂
Good on you jon
Thanks!
Why do you sometimes say golf Oscar Romeo and sometimes golf bravo hotel Oscar Romeo. I think you sometimes say just Oscar Romeo. I really enjoy your videos. I’m an ex Brit living on the Canadian prairies for ages.
We use the full callsign when we first speak to a controller. We can abbreviate it, if the controller addresses us with the abbreviated callsign.
James falling asleep, that made me chuckle! Great work Jon as always. Been to Jersey a few times in the PA28, we're heading to Guernsey this Saturday to complete the 3 Islands tour.
Hope the relocation to Redhill's aerodrome is going well. Have you thought about going down the CBIR route since you've probably accrued a shed load of IFR hours? That's the route I am going to take next year. Saves a few bob, in theory...
Yeah, it's on my mind, but too busy to study at the moment.
So happy to have found your videos! I've subscribed. Thank you! ;-)
Welcome along.
Fantastic video!
Thank you Frank.
Great flight Jon even with Bertie's loo break. Nice u and the family could enjoy a jaunt to jersey. The over water leg made me think of a joke regarding transport category twin engine aircraft certification for extended flights over water ETOPS ( Extended Twin OPerationS) or in pilots parlance -Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim! Douglas
I always wondered what ETOPS stood for.
Sorry to hear about those subscription numbers dropping. That really is a sad indication of where we are as a species in terms of how we think of one another. As a mixed-race person with an ambiguous racial identity (meaning I'm often behind enemy lines/privy to conversation not meant for me) I can't say I'm surprised. From my perspective, really nothing has changed apart from now I respect you even more: for having the balls to show the world and your followers who you truly are, and who is most important to you. Kudos to you my friend, I hope you'll continue making stellar films, they really are pretty awesome. All the best, Rob.
Thank you so much Rob.
Great video as always , very professional and excellent flying
Thanks Matt.
If you ever need a copilot I’d be happy to fly with you
If you ever need a copilot I’d love to fly with you, and pay my way of course
Poor James did look a bit peaky on takeoff & climbout. It's a big deal if you aren't keen on flying, so hats off to him for being brave enough to fly.
He enjoyed it really!
Brilliant! I would love to see the planning that goes into going “abroad”. Loved your other planning videos. I find them helpful with my own ppl training.
To be honest, there isn't much to it!
Going from "(...)mildly scared(...)" to falling asleep on the way back while actually flying a larger distance across open water - that´s what I call a rapid improvement in terms of feeling comfortable :D
He loves it really.
Lol it's like trying to explain something I'm interested in to my sister, *feins interest*
Good video! Miss flying the PA28 at times.. one day the club here in Glasgow will get one.. is someone having problems with their lifejacket? 😎
Yes Stephen!
Great video Jon, interesting to watch you go through the different rules for Class D and G airspace - constantly having to remember what you can and can’t do! Hope you had a great time in Jersey!
I know, and I got it wrong.... very bloomin complicated eh!
You're your own biggest critic - you definitely know your stuff Captain :)
Them airspace rules are a nightmare...I have a cheat sheet, hidden away.
The Flying Reporter did you create it yourself? I would be interested to see it as I’m sure I’ll need all the help I can get!
I did do something for my knee board. I'll see if I can pull it out. The problem is things keep changing.
Never mind ears popping, what about the bottle with the tightly screwed on lid? Well done James, the poor chap is visibly uncomfortable but went along anyway.
It was James' job to ensure the lid was firmly sealed!
Looked like a peachy landing in Jersey 👍
It worked out very well! Love it when that happens.
One of life’s pleasures is taking your family flying . It was lovely to see Bertie and James so comfortable and confident . You say they your life is “ unconventional “ , well who wants to be conventional I say , that’s boring . I enjoyed this video very much and hopefully you have many more happy family days flying around like that .
Thank you so much David.
No wonder your husband is nervous in the P28A, they're flying Ferguson TE20s!
*Stares with regret at the Piper-mob converging around the house*
Hi Jon, your certainly clocking up the air miles this year, any more trips planned ?
We're going to try a longer trip later this month if the weather will allow.
Your husbands face made me smile. He’s not too keen is he. Really enjoyed this one Jon.
Which life vests do you use? Are they quite comfortable to wear for a few hours? I’m looking for recommendations! Many thanks.
p.s. your videos are fab! Very informative for a new pilot.
I'm not sure off the top of my head. They're as comfortable as any I've worn... I don't really notice I'm wearing them, but that's probably because I'm busy flying.
Yes, Great video Jon. Made me emotional when you were coming into Jersey. It's my home or was for the first 29years before moving to Sweden. One thing I was wondering, when you keep checking everything constantly and saying everything out loud, Is this for the purpose of the Viewers, Because I would of thought if you done all your checks in your head, It would make your Partner less nervous, by pretending not to check everything constantly. Because he could get the impression you are nervous, which in turn makes him more anxious, if you see what im getting at..
Thanks Kevin. You make a good point. I think a lot of us pilots do the checks/checklists out loud, so it isn't necessarily for the viewers.
I think it has the opposite effect. The very nature of constant checking is quite reassuring with many people.
@@MichaelAtherton1 well l don't agree. If you constantly keep checking, then something will be slightly off sometimes and then you will say hmmm, that pressure should be higher and then the passenger starts to already get more anxious. I think it's different for everyone ,l suppose
Hi Jon, just wanted to say you’re videos are great and I really do take a lot away from them. I’ve recently moved to London and set myself up with a C152 at your old stomping ground of Biggin Hill. Are there any really good routes/destinations you would recommend around the south coast? I’ve done Shoreham and Beachy Head so far!
hi Benedict. Goodwood, Lydd, Lee on Solent, Sandown would be my next adventures if you're looking for short hops.
The Flying Reporter
fantastic, thanks so much
Did you forget to point out to James that his lifejacket is inside out! :)
Ah, yes, just seen that. ooops!
Hi, just wondered this aircraft is different to the one you flew over the M25 a few days ago because its fixed gear, am I right?.
Yes. This is quite an old video.
@@TheFlyingReporter Oh sorry, yes I should have looked at that, 5 years, great video all the same👍.
Hi Jon, great video as always.
Having just gained my IMC R(R) this summer i'm confused by your comment regarding the Channel Islands class D airspace. My study notes show that the IMC R(R) rating is recognised in the UK, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. As the Channel Islands is class D, SFC to FL80, surely your IMC R(R) rating enables you to fly IMC?
It does, but I was flying VFR not IFR
Sorry Jon, i missed that. Keep up the good work.
Great Vid Jon, quite a few laughs from us, will James fly a bit more with you? I bet Bertie is getting to know all the radio jargon too. Can you tell me, in Jersey was it a short walk to the town or did you have to bus in?
I think James is more likely to fly again, now that we had that successful trip. St Helier `is a bus/taxi ride away from the airport.
That's great, thanks Jon, its one of the places i'd like to visit.
Love you videos
Just wondering if you are able to use auto pilot to maintain altitude
I use P3d and find it really hard to stay at constant altitude. Is it easier in the real aircraft once trimmed to stay at altitude
Yes. Mostly because the ESP-platform (FSX & P3D) is as horrible at trimming as it is at ground physics. But also because having a physical trim wheel allows just that much more finesse, AND also because in real life the yoke isn't spring loaded to a center, but becomes gradually heavier as you move out of the "trimmed area", so you don't need to use muscle or really concentrate to constantly maneuver the aircraft straight and level. It's pretty much exactly as taxing on your muscles and brain as driving a car down a road.
Our autopilot is a bit dodgy, and only holds heading/track, not altitude. It's very easy, in benign conditions to hold altitude manually.
Lovely video although I suspect your husband is about as interested in the semi circular / SVFR rules as mine!
Hmm...you noticed that too.
Hi, nice video. What tablet and mount system are you using? im trying to find one tablet that fits in the yoke. cheers,
Hi, you'll find the answer here www.jonhunt.net/faq/
Diazepam is good for flying nerves!
Not for the pilot though!
Maybe after flying through a hurricane?!
Another great video is your partners life jacket inside out lol
Have you noticed your other half's lifejacket? Back to front. Lol
That's not a family!!
Homophobe.
Wow , appears there are still some neanderthals around.
Why are there so many idiots around on here commenting unnecessarily just to anger or hurt someone?
Flying reporter thankyou for being brave and bold enough to live a life that makes you happy. It’s such a shame that obnoxious idiots have to comment on here.
Excellent video as usual!
@@TheFlyingReporter
You see, that's the trouble isn't it. Just because straight hetro-sexuals do not agree with homosexuality let alone two blokes or women making a mockery of marriage and express it vocaly you get all defensive by calling people 'Homophobe'. It's people's Right not to have to accept another persons way of life! As long as you're happy that's fine but don'tcall people Homophobe just because they happen to disagree with it.
@@Stringbean421 So you're telling me it's perfectly acceptable for a straight person to be rude and offensive about someone's family just because it doesn't meet their narrow, outdated definition, but not for someone to be offended by said offensive comment? Where's the logic in that?
I don't agree with your bigotry and I think you're an arsehole, but you can't be offended by that because it's my right to be vocal about such things, apparently.
Also, in what way is two consenting adults being legally joined making a mockery of marriage? Is it because some book from 2000 years ago said so? Because frankly there's a lot of things that book says are wrong, and I'd be very surprised if you could say you've followed every letter of it.
Kindly do the right thing and be quiet. Maybe while you're doing so you could take time to educate yourself on lgbt+ people. Perhaps if you understood more about us you'd be less homophobic? Just a thought.
gay icon the BBC man with the PA28 - so happy for you. Hope that one day you won't have to call your life unconventional anymore (if in fact you were talking about partner and kids and not your flying)
Sorry, but I do feel this virtue signalling comment is not necessary. Jon is NOT a gay icon. He is a person enjoying life like the rest...We all have a story... But please, get beyond the activism. It's patronising (in the true sense of the word). With the the greatest of respect, please move on... thank you.
I don't think I've ever been called a gay icon before. I don't think the badge fits. I'm happy who I am now - haven't always been. Think it's important to be open about these things, as it helps others.
It was never meant as some sort of label, I'm probably using it wrong. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm glad you're happy and I really appreciate your openness, as it sure does help others!
