The unassisted method actually seems easier to me than the assisted on guide mode. Im guessing the progress is just a lot slower... Would you still choose the assisted method if the second is uninjured? Many thanks!!
I'd rather assisted if possible just to make my life easier! It would depend on the injury, but for anything more than a very short distance I'd want my partner to help me if possible :)
@@davidmilanovic1 whilst a micro traxion is kind of ok for belaying, Petzl clearly state it isn’t a belay device. The only time I’d consider using one is on easy terrain not hard stuff. If I had one on me, and I probably wouldn’t, I’d replace the prusik with a micro traxion and get the benefit from it that way.
You've titled the video assisted hoist but this is an unassisted hoist isn't it? I assume the assisted one is similar but instead of the loop going to a prussik near you it goes to the second?
Don't forget that you can redirect through the anchor and use a second prusik as a foot loop to use your weight instead of your muscle!
For sure! Lots of options, this one is just a nice quick and basic one :)
This looks excellent thank you JB! Or more specifically future thanks from my wife. Guide mode can be a harsh place for the second 😂
My pleasure 👊
Very good idea.
By unassisted, you mean no help from your mate, but you do get mechanical advantage (3:1, minus inefficiency). Took me too long to realise!
Yes, exactly 💪
Thanks

Classic Z-rig.
Try a redirect rather than pulling up for added control and comfort and leverage.
Yeah there's a ton more that could be added to this video with different options etc but I wanted a short vid this time.
What about belay with microtraxion on harder pitches?
You can add prusik and get a 3:1 pulley?

Oops, bonus point for you! Yes just a loop of rope down to the climber, that they clip to their belay loop, and pull on the correct strand to assist.
Micro traxion not needed anymore
