    I used to drive a 99 Tercel and what a great regular car it was. Took me from A to B with no hazzle everytime, with good fuel mileage. Even crashed it twice, fixed it and still kept going. The definition of what a car should be.

    • @martinoamello3017
      @martinoamello3017 2 года назад +3

      The very definition of old school Toyota..Able to leap off tall buildings in a single bound and keep running..
      I had a really old Corolla with the front suspension quite literally chained to what was left of the frame, but that sucker just couldn't die.. I had a Celica with rusted out front fenders that flapped in the breeze going down the road and would sometimes act like wings to lift up the front end. I drove that beast for close to 10 years then finally sold the engine for twice of what I paid for the entire car a decade earlier.. True story.. lol

    My aunt and uncle had this exact car, same color, and I am getting PTSD from remembering that when I was 10 years old in the backseat playing one of those shitty Radio Shack Tetris clones. I got the high score, and made my name on the high score ticker "FUCK". My cousin giggled, and my uncle said "what's so funny?", and grabbed the game from my hands. He looked at it, and turned around said, "do you know what you just did?! I am not going to tell your parents, but YOU are. This is on you". That guilt weighed on me for years.

    I had a 1996 Tercel 2 door automatic. Dual airbags, no ABS, no overdrive. Lasted 246,000 miles with original engine and transmission until 2016 when the alternator bracket broke and it overheated and blew the head gasket. It was my car senior year in High School, and at the time of it's death, my Son's car senior year in high school. He wanted to get a newer car instead of repair this one, and since it was his money that's what happened. Sadly it was scrapped. It survived 3 accidents, two with large deer, one with airbag deployment. MAACO straitened it out every time. It was just then at the point of it's death where everything was disintegrating and needed replacing (engine mounts, shocks, seatbelts etc.). I paid $6,900 for it in 2000 and it was only intended to get me through college. It not only did that, but got my son through high school as well. Good car.

      Some even get confused when you suddenly let off the gas. I used to drive a somewhat modern manual Mitsubishi diesel pickup at work which would consistently bounce off the redline a few times if I suddenly let off the gas and pressed the clutch at the same time. Throttle took like half a second to react going up or down. Made it infuriating to change gear when accelerating uphill.
      I switched it with an old rusty manual diesel Mitsubishi van with missing interior panels, a leaky roof... and a mechanical throttle. It's much slower, but far more fun to drive because throttle response is instantaneous.
      Now I can change gears real quick, and mash the throttle to my hearts content. I pretty much have to to keep up with traffic, or gods forbid, overtake a tractor on a windy road.

    I got a 95 corolla (I see tercels=corollas, fight me) Love the damn thing, got it (not running) for 200 bucks. owners were going to scrap it because "It's broke". Once I got them to elaborate I figured out the odds were strongly in my favor that it wasnt FUBAR, just needed some (not costly if you DIY) repairs. They wanted 400 for it I kinda noped on that.
    Wrecker came by a few weeks later I asked what he gave for it. He said 65. I told him id give him triple on the spot and whipped out 200 bucks. I rolled it to a parking space, and put it jack stands, and there it sat for a month as i worked on it in my spare time.(because life and bills do go on) I replaced ignition cylinder (as it was f'd up) Then I got power, checked the fuel pump (cracked open the bolt on the rail) got fuel to spew out (which was an excellant sign) then i got to look at the timing components.
    Opened up the distributor to reveal the rotor. I cranked it over. Rotor didnt spin. So timing belt was off (and I knew the engine wasnt a interference motor so i knew i was fairly safe) I opened it up and oh my god. The tensioner had seized and melted the belt. That was fun cleaning it up. And then the day arrived, I put on everything that it needed, and turned the key to on.....was apprehensive and started to crank, it didnt even crank for a second it backfired and roared to life. Proudest moment ever. So for 200 bucks and another 100 bucks in parts (New belts, cap, rotor and a valve cover gasket) I got arguably the best damn car ive ever gotten.
    The toyota tercel/corolla The official car of "Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down!"
    TLDR, i got a corolla for 200 bucks, fixed it and it farted to life.

    Regarding DRLs, Canadian law requires all cars made for or imported into Canada from December 1989 onwards to be fitted with DRLs. This also means cars imported from the US between that time and the 2010s have to be retrofitted with DRLs. That would be why this 1997 Tercel came with them.

Everything is so automated these days no one knows how to turn on their lights if they hit the switch with their knee. Case and point, I was driving one day at night and a 2018 Jeep Compass had its lights off, the driver pulls up next to a cop, being a nice guy the cop rolls down his window and tells the driver to turn on their lights. This person could not find the light switch at all in the car. The cop and the driver drove into a parking lot and I’m assuming he should the driver how to turn on the lights. At least with DRLs it’s bright enough to let other drivers see you at night.

I think 2002, or there abouts and ran it until there was no car left. Its brakes were mostly gone, it had various dents and scratches, I want to say the windshield was cracked, and the starter motor gave out. She got six hundred dollars for it at the dealer and bought a used 2008 Honda Civic hybrid at about the same time I was learning to drive. I think it was 2010. My mom loved it.
