The fact that Carolina pivoted from Pettersson to Rantanen indicates to me that they valued Rantanen more, even without a contract in place. As an objective outsider I think it is a no-brainer. So I'd expect any return for Pettersoon to be less than what Colorado got.
He doesnt get as much as people think. He comes with too much risk with a ridiculous salary. He turns 27 this year and he has scored more than 68 points twice in his career.
Whether they do the trade or not… I don’t think enough people are talking about Peterson having a bad year / getting paid over 11 mil per year / and bonuses up coming. He’s also not like a very strong center. He is very slight and skill alone is not enough for the Sabres to turn around the franchise. I’d also say if Peterson is having a down year on the Canucks and their supporting cast, what do you think happens in Buffalo without Cozens, Tuch and Byram?
trading petey would be a mistake. hes young and not a liability even when his point production isnt amazing hes a selke candidate every season regardless of points. miller has been horrific defensively bar the edmonton game and has caused issues consistently his whole career. peteys poor play isnt entirely his own fault miller is the one with the bad track record.
Petterson is not worth Tuch Sabres have enough other players that aren't heart of the team they can move. On top of that the Sabers despite feeling the pressure to make a trade they don't have to. I think Canucks fans are going to be disappointed with the return.
