Why include San Jose? The Sharks are doing a tremendous job. Celebrini, Dickinson, Askarov, Smith, Eklund, etc. It's still in the very early stages of their rebuild and they have amazing pieces.
Also, I think KD was expecting a lot of these veterans to be traded at the deadline. The problem he won't get good trade value. I haven't heard one analyst talk about it from this point of view. We know a lot of these older veterans will not be part of the main core because of all the draft picks we drafted.
You know who failed their rebuild? Toronto. One playoff series win since they bottomed out and won the draft lottery before any of the three teams in the Thumbnail won their draft lottery. Like Chicago’s and San Jose’s are just starting and bringing up the Sabres (even though they are a vet or two away from competing) is just twisting the knife.
Sorry you are incorrect. Failed rebuild means a losing team year in year out. The Leafs rebuild while not a "success" is not a "failure" either. Every generation you're going t have the teams that win the Cup and then the teams that are GOOD but never win it. Yes, the Leafs haven't had much playoff success but they are one of the winningest teams in the regular season for the past 7 years or so. It's not a championship that's for sure but failed rebuild? If you judge it based on who wins the cup, then I guess 31 NHL teams are a failed rebuild while only 1 (the cup champs) are success rebuild.
@@breakaway2x You can base it on Cups because not everyone does a FULL rebuild like Chicago. Some teams just do small rebuild changes. The point of a FULL REBUILD is to win at least ONE Stanley Cup if not more. Both Toronto and Oilers failed their rebuild with the number of high picks. Funny how when Mcdavid was drafted, no one was saying in year 2 or 3 that he would ask for a trade. But they are with Bedard.
Hawks fan here. These guys mention all the guys that SJ have drafted and are in their system and none of the guys outside of Bedard that Chicago has drafted. Then they act like Greer has it all figured out and there’s a plan but Davidson and the Hawks don’t have one. It’s really interesting to see this narrative get woven. For the record, they’d drafted 10 players in the first round in the last three years. Most of them are in the AHL or NCAA. A rebuild requires patience so that your draft picks can develop. Very few 18 year olds can just step onto the ice and make a difference. Often rushing them into the NHL is actually bad for their long term development. They got Bedard 2 drafts ago, all the reinforcement are coming. Tell the truth TSN - you know who Frank Nazar, Oliver Moore, Levshunov, Boisvert, Vanacker, Rinzel, Korchinski are. Not to mention the other idk 20 guys they’ve taken in the second round recently. Is drafting and development not a plan? It sounds like a plan to me.
Similar Montreal and Winnipeg having prospects is great... But what Craig said is true -In Winnipegs case they have their core Hellebuyck(31),Scheifele(31),Lowry(31),Morrissey(29),Connor(28). They are in a win now not develop wait for Lambert,Barlow,Heinola,Lucius,Salmonsson,He,Freijs I'd still keep Yager/Chibrikov but trade rest for help rn or signed next few years. *You can't stay still and let your core age out.* - Montreal has almost a full core Slavkovsky,Suzuki,Laine,Guhle,Caufield they still have to wait Fowler/Demidov,Maillioux. But you can't have 20 prospects eventually pick your guys and trade Kidney,Roy,Tuch,Mesar,Beck,Engstrom maybe even Reinbacher for a big time player RFA/26-30 add to core. Its great if they trade Dach,Savard,Matheson but don't just stockpile make deals to add quality players for future.
I like how Bedard is in his second season on a rebuilding Chicago team and SN is like "ThEy NeEd To Be SuCcEsSfUl NoW." Christ, they're coming off over a decade of success by trading away picks for cups, give em a few seasons lmao
Chicago is on track in their rebuild. Bedard is leading the team in points again. Nazar looks better every game. Korchinski has vastly improved since last year. Levshunov is getting better in the AHL. Boisvert looks great in college. Kanstserov is playing fabulous in the KHL. Moore and Rinzel should sign after their college seasons and are good prospects especially Rinzel. The team will get another top 4 pick this year. Young kids take time. This is not a Buffalo situation where the team has rebuilt the rebuild 3X over.
This year is another strong draft year with Hagens, Schaefer, McQueen, Martone and Misa the bottom 5 teams will all be getting huge assets vital to their rebuilds and next year you could argue is an even stronger top 5 so I think we will be able to tell after that whose failing/failed a rebuild or not.
He’s been rising since the beginning of this season, also you have to consider the unpredictability of the top 4. Hagens is still technically the best prospect, but he isn’t at a Celebrini level of dominance to be a guaranteed #1.
I can see why Buffalo is on this list but San Jose is NOT failing. They literally just officially started their rebuild 2 years ago. They have the number 1 ranked prospect pool and are going to get another top 5 pick this year. These guys are idiots and only like hearing the sound of their own annoying voices. GO SHARKS!!!🦈
As Chicago's late great Mayor Richard J. Daley said, "Experts and Critics know nothing". That was on full display here. NOBODY complained about Davidson's UFA signings this last July. Davidson NEVER said he was "Fast Tracking" the rebuild. The Hawks prospect pool is loaded and in the next 3 years we'll see those guys coming. The last GM lived off his Daddy's name for years and left the cupboard bare. Then before he left he stuck us with Seth Jones. NHL rebuilds take time.
I agree with you. I would even say the Oilers are a failure with the amount of high picks. Sure they went to game 7 of the Stanley Cup. But look at their standings this year. Sure they are 2nd in their Pacific division but I remember they were no way close earlier in the season. They had a hard time getting to 2nd in their division. And if they had a hard time getting 2nd, they may have a hard time in the playoffs against real playoff contenders.
I can save yall the 8 minutes. Buffalo has been failing their rebuild for 8 years, Chicago is fine as long as they dont screw up Badard, and San Jose is doing aight.
The sabres are the only team that should be under this microscope. But really the parity in the nhl is too good. Nobody expected philly to be as good as they were last year. Now look at Montreal. Things can turn bad or good for any team in the blink of an eye
Sharks even being mentioned is a joke, they just started their rebuild. Grier's first season was 2022-23 🤣😆😆😆, and as much of a disgrace the Blackhawks organization is and always will be for the Kyle Beech incident they just started their rebuild in 2022-23 as well. Calm tf down lmao.
Many high picks. Just look at the players that KD drafted past like 2-3 years. And see what picks we have this year and like next year. Maybe the year after that.
To the question that forms the title of the TSN video clip in question, there's no doubt the Sabres have failed spectacularly in their rebuild. The Sabres have after all not made a playoff appearance following the Canucks last appearance in a Stanley Cup final. Time will tell how soon if ever either of the other teams' rebuilds will ultimately lead to playoff success.
Do any of these guys understand what a “rebuild” is?? SJ didn’t even acknowledge they needed to rebuild until Grier took over 3 years ago. They were in salary cap hell without any prospects. They’ve come so far so fast and have the cap flexibility to bring in high profile players when it makes sense. These panelists have no clue about what’s going on in San Jose 😂 it’s like they took one look at the standings 5 minutes before airing this segment and talked nonsense.
You guys are fools for saying that Luke Richardson was not part of the problem. Since the coaching change, we have still lost games yes, but we have played much better overall. Anderson is doing what needed to be done long ago with mixing up the lines, and benching Kurashev.
The NHL is now so mean and blame it on Bettman. Really don't know which team is going to end their rebuild first whether it's the Sharks or Blackhawks. Ruling out the Sabres IMO.
The Sabres are in a lot of trouble Ten years into a rebuild. Spending 80 million , and have Dahlin, Power the goalies and Dylan Cozens who they drafted themselves. The Sharks are five years in and still have a couple guys (Vlasic and Couture) to get rid of. They are spending 79 million still. They don't look terrible in a couple years. Chicago is four years into the rebuild and ten years from a cup. They are spending 81 million and have 10 million coming off the books next year. They need another three years drafting at the bottom. San Jose is on the verge of turning it around. Chicago is a little further back. Buffalo is in the worst spot.
@@ogdentaylor7473 It's year 3. The problem is like 95% of our prospects are not NHL ready yet. So people are thinking we are closer to the 5 year plan when we are really not.
