Can't speak for other states, but this NE retreating monsoon and rain in Tamil Nadu in November/ December is taught in geography classes in schools in West Bengal, at least.
If this is news, that means children are not learning geography good enough.
@urldroidsuperbot2139
Geography & its teaching in India "are" deficient even In contrast to our ancient teaching, rich in both about land and seasons (our country is predominantly a Monsoon region with three distinct seasons & six weathers). But it was dispensed with.

You said Himalayas keep northern India cooler all the time than southern India. I don’t think that is true. Whole Rajasthan, Haryana, NCR, Punjab, UP, Bihar gets scorched by intense heat during summer.
Yes thats wrong, becasue the North is hotter than the South, and that creates the low-pressue that attracts the winds.
Actually Himalayas keep north India from extreme weather. It acts as a barrier and prevents the cold winds to come in to Indo Gangetic plains. Other wise Delhi would be snowing just like Chicago as both are pretty much on the same latitude. So Himalayas keep north India warmer than it would be otherwise if there is no himalayas
@balasubramaniamtn6457 North India would be like the southern US. Variable temps in winter.
Now it just stays constant temps & fog in winter.
@@balasubramaniamtn6457Actually completely wrong , it would have been like the Gobi desert of China. Chicago is in temperate zone, delhi is in sub tropical zone , so there can never be snow in delhi. Look at the coordinates. We actually get rainfall because of Himalayas, otherwise entire northern India would've been a hot desert area.
Very nice explanation, but sun does not actually go towards North pole or South Pole.Due to the earth's axis tilting the sun's rays falls in the respective Hemisphere..
Chennai and Puducherry under water is a hyper exaggeration.
Certain areas in Chennai were inundated for a maximum of 12 hours.
Happy someone called this out.
Most of the cities in this world are designed to get inundated whenever rainfall happens. So nothing to feel bad about it. It's actually a secret govt plan to give citizens a chance to relax n listen music.
Blame your shitty infrastructure on everyone else
@Sugar2307
Inundation for 12 hours & rainfall that long is too much by global standards. Because people here are used to it, does not mean that it is common. Continuous Monsoon rain for 24 hours is common on India's SW coast, but a catastrophe by world standards.
@@MrPoornakumar The point is that calling the city under water in its entirety is a gross exaggeration of the ground realities. I doubt the severity of the situation demanded it to be described like it was a national disaster of which it was not.
Very nice analysis
Very nice explanation by host..but trouble with all maps shown..not correctly depicted..need to have better technical staff
Beautifully explained 😊
all she had to say was: what is the ITCZ(Inter Tropical Convergence Zone) and the shifting of that zone and viola you have your answer for monsoon in India
People are happy with her clean 8 minute detailed-articulation, devoid of too many forgettable jargons... just saying...
Informative video. Thank you Sandhya.
Thank you Sandya madam for the episode.
Wonderfully explained. Very good coverage.
Very informative video!
Sorry on an unrelated topic, the organiser in the background is very cool! Where did you get it?
It's from Ikea
On topics like this involving technical matters, The Print would do well to please refrain from episodes by Solo Media Anchors and focus exclusively on Interviews with Experts.
There are 2 Monsoons in India --Southwest (June to september) from Arabian sea AND NORTH EAST (October -december )South India from Bay of Bengal.
This definitely affects the food which comes in the plate.
tomatoes and onion prices seem to be high for quite some time. Even dhaniya is refused it if need only 10 rs of it.
I do enjoy the colder weather but the rains darken the sky and so the gloomy feeling with mosquitoes.
Brief and clear 👍
Missed 🥰
So is Pune
Well.explained
Informative!
Print encouraging science and history reports irrespective of the untasteful comments keeping up the spirit of journalism is appreciable!
Good work Sandhya.. pls work on the animation that can help narrate a better storyline..
Good explanation. I think that the explanation for NE monsoon should have been a little clearer. In lighter vain I am asking: why does the wind take four months for returning southward?
Sahi. Can you stop the rains in Bombay?
.. but why was it unique, longer & harsher rains, this year compared to previous years ? when would it subside for sure in south.
Why are Indian summers during April and May when the rest of the Northern hemisphere have their summers during July and August when we have our monsoon season?
Lovely.
I hope she is okay looks like she's not doing well
She is Down with The WuhanVirus!, :)
In Odisha we get rain from Southwest monsoon as well as Northeast monsoon
NEM is not that helpful for Odisha unless a Low pressure area (cyclone) approaches it. She gives wrong information in the video. Winds from WB move towards TN in a curveed manner, hence ODISHA is parallel to these winds.
@@prathamjchauhan5749 The eastern ghats run in haphazard directions unlike the western ghats. Thus in many places they run perpendicular to the NEM. This leads to rainfall o windward side of interior parts of Odisha during October and November while Low pressure due to cyclones only bring rain to coastal areas.

The Arabic word was Mausim. It got corrupted to Mausam in Hindustani and Monsoon in Portuguese and from there in other European languages
They teach this in fifth class geography
What happened to Sandhya? This looks so odd..
I think I am watching Sandhya after quite a long time and something is weird.... No i ain't commenting on her hairstyle, but the usual energy she exuded through her explanations is a bit changed.

I know you guys are doing serious journalism....so please take care while using the map.... when you guys use the world map.... indian map is incomplete... please be careful

Sandhya seems to be so peeved about the rainfall...well, wiithout the rains Bengaluru will get so scorched of drinking water in April-May period that the tanker mafia become the rain gods

Coriolis force left the chat and logic died after seeing this video. Literally moisture picks from land? and wind comes in straight line from north then why is it NE monsoon? Atleast consult a weather blogger or IMD before posting shit which is illogical.
