- Black poplar - Populus nigra
"Black poplar, or Populus nigra, with its Latin name, is a tree belonging to the poplar genus, which is a sub-branch of the willow family, namely Salicaceae. Its homeland is Europe, Central and Southwest Asia, and there are 3 or 4 known subspecies of black poplar. In our country, it naturally grows in Central Anatolia and Western Anatolia. It is seen on the banks of streams and rivers where it grows, and in rural areas where it is used as a hedge tree. Unfortunately, black poplar is one of the tree species whose existence is endangered by the drying up of stream beds for hydroelectric power plant construction."
