They're obviously at every zoo here in Australia. At the Perth zoo, they had a big fenced off section for the cassowary. Humans walked on a board walk through the enclosure.
One of the cassowaries came right up to the fence when I walked toward it. Glared me dead in the eye and just continued to stare at me like it wanted to kill me.
They are spooky. I've unknowingly swam near sharks before, nearly stepped on deadly snakes, etc, but none of them scared me as much as a cassowary.

However New Zealand that wasn't an option. So we surprised him with a striped Raphael catfish whom he's now obsessed with and loves dearly! His is dad and I grew up with Steve and Terri Irwin on our screen and visiting Australia zoo holding a boaor the first time hanged my world now at 35 living in Golden bay in the top west of New Zealands South Island, we are sandwiched between 2 incredible national parks, Kahurangi and Able Tasman! So he has our beautiful natives in his backyard. And incredibly safe place to do it as in nothing can really do much damage when encountered. But thank to videos from creators and like minded conservationists, Bryan Barcyzk, Dingo, Dinkelman, Blake, Tyler Nolan, Chandler, Kennan, Kevin from N.E.R.D and Jerry Wolfe to name just a few, at 5 years old he has a true passion for all things wild and wanting to see them in the wild and see all of you in person, which one day we hope to make happen for him. And the mindset of Freddy Kruger, too, because it was a herbivore, and so everything wanted to kill it, so it used those big claws to kill everything. It came in contact with before it could get killed. You know, sort of they shoot first, ask questions later, mentality.

So the Cassowary has killed 2 people (confirmed at least), 70 years apart...
The first, in 1926, was just a dude, that wanted to beat one to death with his brother, he fell down and got got.
The second one was in 1999, in FLORIDA. The guy was holding a cassowary as a pet. And yes... he fell down as well.
There have been over 150 attacks, but many involved people feeding them (or at least trying) or it was a defence reaction (trying to defend themselfes or their offspring).
Emus have killed much more people (they won a war against Australia...)

I can agree with you, I feel like the thing that these birds are soooo dangerous "killer machines" is exagerrated. As you said they didn't kill that much people (confirmed attacks). The birds mostly won't really care about humans, just when bothered. And in that footage I don't really see a cassowary chasing them, even though forest said something about it chasing them.
But emus didn't kill anyone in the emu war.

109 according to a study attacks were due to the fact that cassowaries associated humans with food. So it was all our fault. The "natural" attacks were a lot rarer some of self defence 32 and 7 territorial. Out of the 221 attacks.

@@GoodContent29410 No, the war was a fun fact. Mostly if idiots were trying to feed them

Most terrifying animal I've ever seen face to face was the cassowary.
