I really like your concept. I've been around steam power most of my life and thought of a couple additions that may allow this to run longer. A blower line will help get steam pressure up faster. Tap off your steam supply line and run a line with a valve up through the firebox and point it up toward the stack. When the valve is opened, the steam pressure will cause a vacuum, sucking air through the fire and heating it up even more. Similar to this idea, make a return line for the exhaust to come back to the boiler and also point up the stack. This will pull air to the fire as the engine is running.
an idea for a flash steam coil boiler is to build a pan and fill with gallium and place the coil of stainless steel tubing inside and when you run water in the coil it will create flash steam to run your steam engine. gallium is non toxic and can be reheated over and over with no degradation. no chance of explosion cause the water is in the small coil tube not in a big boiler. should work just fine and create instant steam.
You should run a line from your exhaust to the stack to get more draft to your fire and make a platform in front of tractor with a welder for your boiler to sit In front of the tractor yes it may be a little heavy on the front end but it be worth it
LOL Nice! It reminds me of the Arkansas Chug-A-Bug from Wacky Races. You need a better boiler and some actual steam hose though, man. For that engine 100psi would give you all the power you'd ever need, but I don't think the boiler you've got now is quite up to the task. It didn't maintain steam either once the engine started using it. Try Ebay and Enginads, every once in a while a nice little boiler pops up for sale. Make sure you've got a water sight glass, a safety valve, and a way to force water in (a hand pump if nothing else). High Pressure Steam Hose is a little pricey, but it's worth it. Last thing you want is for that Gas Flex-Pipe to rupture and give you a nasty burn from behind.
+Hunter S How did you make the boiler on this thing? Is it similar to a firetube boiler or water-tube? Maybe flash-coil? Do you have any pictures of when you were building it? I look forward to hearing from you! Thanks!
It wasn't anything that fancy, it was just a used propane tank with a drain tube in the bottom in an old basement wood burner and some fire place stone to direct the fire around the tank.
That works! I noticed a rocket stove like boiler in some of your first videos. How about that one? I'm thinking about how I can condense the boiler size enough to cram it on the lawn mower well, but still get plenty of steam to the engine.
that one was an insulated chimney flue and T with a 1/2 inch thick CO2 Tank from a beer keg. it was safe but didn't make much steam, took a long time to build pressure
Why, oh why, oh why, does everyone seem to want to make tube boilers? Monotube would be much easier, and much safer. I would opt for liquid or gaseous fuel - either that or have someone firing the boiler. Has the boiler been safety checked? I'm thinking probably not.

Grass cutting barbecue cooking, hot bath water making love machine
Do you ever run that thing anymore? It would be cool to see what modifications you've done to it by bow!

You could also have that over the fire, but then it has to always be cooled by flowing water

to cool man keep it up for us younger guys
That is so cool. 👍😁
wow so good friend.

just a thought, would hydraulic hose work? Thinking from a high pressure point of view.
wibbledee pressure wise it would but it wouldn't hold together with the temperature
You can also get Legit steel-braided STEAM HOSE.
I love the project however it's going to need alot more pressure
Haha this thing is cool!

I'm thinking of building something like a porcupine boiler for mine. 1/4 steel should work fine for that size boiler. Maybe 100 pounds.
I didn't think about doing one that way, ill have to try that with my next one i build.
What type of engine is it?
Lol . Love that
What's the pression of the steam do you have in this video ?
if remember right it was like 20-35 maintain, but the boiler can build up to 75
what's your unit of pression ?
+LUDERIK LeVIKING oh sorry, psi
+Hunter S OK, i'm working un bars but de use the same pressure
WTf why do you have a steam lawn mower.
Because it's fun, innovative, and unique plus because i can!
+Hunter S that is right !! amen my friend !!
Hunter S would you say it has as much power as a gas motor of the same CC?
how did you do the timing?
welded extra lobes on the came and grinded them till i got the timing perfect
Hello what the hell is that it didn't go anywhere does it drive down the road or what
this is how North Korean farmers have to do, or a gasifier.

can you shut up finally? :v
Need some coal
