@@danielefabbro822he was declared not guilty, not “innocent”. Very different concepts. Regardless of the outcomes too, he brought this on himself by coming out as gay to deflect from the accusations and from not denying the accusations, just saying that he didn’t remember them happening and that he was sorry if he did commit any predatory behavior. He handled the controversies very poorly, and none of his accusers were proven to have been lying either. OJ Simpson and Casey Anthony were also acquitted too, for what that’s worth Good for him though, i guess
JCFG each episode is around 50 minutes long according to netflix, times that by 10 so around 500 minutes? it’s quite late and my brain is just dead so i might be wrong.
I recently had surgery and wanted a show to binge watch while I recovered, I chose House of Cards. Anyone who's had surgery knows that it's hard to sleep and this show, intro included, helped me so much. The show really captures the anonymity of living in the city. When I see the time lapse video of DC, I think of the tiring, endless rat race that takes place in cities. Politicians spend sleepless nights, scheming, and driving across town for secret meetings, all the while the city keeps turning. This show helped my insomnia because most scenes take place at night, and the daytime scenes are mostly indoors in the white house. After watching an episode or two whenever I hear that trumpet, I start to doze off, while imagining i'm one of those everyday citizens in DC, racing around the city, while corruption breeds and lives right under our nose.
This theme song has so many layers. Each season the bring one up more than the other. Notice how the trumpet is louder this time? It represents the trumpet of a king entering his court. The piano was more pronounced in the second season because there was more movement, Frank was more conniving, each action he takes more bold than the last. The first season only set the tone to all of this. Jeff Beal is absolutely brilliant.
+Bluelilylilyblue I also think the time lapse effect has symbolic meaning as well. I think it is representing how the physical power structures in Washington DC remain constant and the same throughout the passage of time.
It starts off with a city that is flat and grey, and beneath that are buildings where the architecture is full of congested creativity. And then you start to see these symbolic gestures of political power, the point of view looking up at them. You begin to see shadows interacting with these tall buildings, and the perspective drops to an underground view of the city. From almost every point of view in the city you can see a taller whitewashed building where all the laws that dictate a lot of people's lives are passed. And then the night shrouds the city and you expect it to end. But it doesn't, and you realize that this is a place that never sleeps. There's always movement and it never stops and it moves the fastest at night. Statues of the past are the only things that never change while the city moves around them.
+Plucky Bellhop And notice that there are no actual people anywhere, only a hint of them -car traffic, train, plane the lights turned on and off in offices etc'.
And the fact that all the symbols of politics appear at night suggest something: Night alludes to the darkness, whereas darkness is seen as a tool to exploit to perform sins when nobody is watching. This refers to the very crimes and corruption Frank commits as he plays dirty politics behind the darkness. Yet in broad daylight where everyone can see him, he wears a friendly face.
the intro that transitions me into a tv drama politician. ended up actually playing this song to psych myself up before doing business lol, that was a decade ago....
Arguably the best show to come to Netflix, wasn't happy with the last season but for 5 seasons I loved hearing this intro because I knew I was in for some GOOD shit
0:38 has always been my favourite part. I just love that guy in the chair and the way the camera pans. It's as if he's conducting those notes or something
And there it is: an intro with nothing special except for a speeding video of city clips. Yet, it is the most powerful and chilling intro I've ever seen. Beats GoT, Breaking Bad, you name it.
I love how the symbols of power like the US capitol building and the statues remain the same as the world is changing non-stop around them, subtly tells us that - no matter what goes on in the world - the solidity of power remains as strong and same as ever.
