I wonder what Craig Burley will have to be negative about if England do win against Spain? In all my working life a "panel" consisted of people who, at the very minimum, hid their biases. Craig Burley has a go at England even when reviewing games played across the Atlantic Ocean. Perhaps he'll front up after the final and say he just hates the English because he's Scottish - and that will be the most honest he's been as a panel member the entire tournament.

Remember after the Denmark draw, Gareth Southgate was being trolled by fans and pundits for saying that England doesn’t have a direct replacement for Kalvin Phillips in midfield. At the time when he said this, he sounded absolutely delusional for making one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever heard from a manager in regard to a player. It’s not a coincidence that ever since he decided to start Kobbie Mainoo, they’ve won 3 consecutive games and are now in the final and in all of those games he’s played very well and has been a standout performer for them.
He has added a spark in their midfield as he provides energy work rate he’s progressive in his play has incredible ability on the ball he make very good passes, his dribbling and silky skills are on another level and it’s crazy to think that he’s still only 19 years old and he has proven Southgate wrong and has shown him that he’s the real deal and the fact that he’s good enough to be a starter in their midfield says it all about him. Whenever he touches the ball, you just know that magic happens and while I might be glazing, he’s playing as if he’s one of the midfielders in the world and that’s a fact. At his age, he has been a revelation for the England national team and has been a key player on their road to the final and has been a joy to watch in his first ever major tournament. All the talk and hype is around Lamine Yamal since he’s 16 years old and what he’s doing at his age is ridiculous, even Endrick is talked about way more than him which is a product of Madrid PR, Mainoo is arguably one of the top 3 players under the age of 20, from a talent perspective he’s had as good of a season as Yamal in terms of breaking into the team for club and country and making a significant impact and he’s much better than Endrick as the only thing he has above him is media hype. And to think that they’re going to have this guy in their midfield for at least 15 years.

Substituting is an education. It's simply a deployment of battered troops that need replacing. It is, in fact, a scientific approach to a match in the latter or closing stages. So, did Gareth make the right decision bringing on Ollie. Well, scoring the winner in the closing stages, although wonderful to watch, was it really the best decision ?

Ollie Watkins showed in 10 minutes what Harry Kane wasn't doing - running in behind the opposition defenders, and running fast to get into position to receive crucial passes. Watch the replay : Watkins started his run as soon as Cole Palmer got the ball. I haven't seen that lethergic lazy Kane doing it in any game for England. Kane doesn't run, he has no movement - he just jogs in his centre-forward position, always wants to the ball to be spoonfed to him in front of the goal. He spends up to half an hour without even touching the ball once, does not win the ball, does not win a tackle, does not pass, does not receive a pass. Clearly Trippier, Saka, Bellingham or Foden do not want to pass to Kane. Remember how many times Saka put a cross in the box and Kane was well short (or too slow) to latch on to it? Most of his goals are from penalties, can someone tell me how many are from open play? Southgate should show some guts to drop him and Foden for the final and put Watkins and Palmer in the starting line up. Otherwise we have little hope of winning against Spain.
A few simple changes and this team could entertain the entire planet for the next 10 years

All sorts of formations spring to mind but I think we need a back four with Walker and Shaw as full backs. I want to see Gordon and Palmer out wide with Wharton, Mainoo and Foden in midfield behind Watkins. Foden and Mainoo would push on to Rodri.
Or we could go Xmas tree with a back four, a midfield three of Wharton, Mainoo and Foden, Palmer and Gordon as '10', then Watkins. In this formation Palmer and Gordon would keep tabs on Rodri.
Yeah, neither of those teams are going to happen, the only change might be Shaw for Trippier, but I wouldn't bet on that to be honest.
