Man I remember getting one of these right when they came out. Within 3 months the cd drive broke and of course I couldnt get anything done via warrenty as I lived in America and wasnt supposed to have legally purchased it. Good times nothing like $900 down the drain.

very good find man, if adjust this for inflation he paid close to 2200 Egyptian pounds which is equivalent to about 440$ which is very close to the price we were buying them for at the launch date in the Middle East, fantastic and very informative video, keep up the good work buddy.

The SCPH 10000 and 15000 really are the Rolls Royce of all the PS2 models in terms of build quality.
This isn't a launch day model because it has the v1.01 Utility Disc. Sony included this on the second shipment of machines (April 2000) when people with the v1.00 disc discovered that they could load Region 1 NTSC discs via a loop-hole that should have been patched for release.
This model should also have the v1.01 bios that fixed the slow disc tray bug and also black listed the v1.00 Utility Disc.
    Still. A great find! :)

so much interesting info on this video I want to add my own: nowdays there are unoffical yet useful network adapters for the FAT PS2s, but instead of having the original IDE conector for the Hard Drive, they come with a SATA connector for... well, sata hardrives which have higher storage capacity than IDE hardrives

Ive had my 10000 model since launch, now 19 years old and still mint though had to replace the laser last year considering its had 19 years of heavy use its done really well I upgraded the laser from a khs-400a to khs-400c and works a treat and loads games much more faster than it ever did.
One thing I like about the 10000 with dvd driver 1.00 is it will play dvds in full rgb with no green screen 1.00 is the best due to region free too.

I’m looking to pick one of these up, I’ve done laser swaps on the North American models which have the DVD drive far more accessible. Also, have you region modded the console? That’s the only thing holding me back, I want it to be able to play EVERYTHING

Cool get! Those models look weird to me, the vent on the front is so smaller! I got my first PS2 a few months ago, a 300003 model. :) very good system, I missed out a lot.
I got lucky though, I almost got a 350003 model, which has a fan that is really really loud, and heats up a lot. :)

      +The GTA Criminal Really?
My is a 30003R GH-015 model, it has hard drive 160GB and still has warrant sticker, never opened. It was very cheap though, so I don't think it is special.

Nice find there Rob, I actually got this same model for free off FreeCycle a few months back. I eventually sold it to a fellow RUclipsr who ended up screwing me over on a deal that he promised me and sold it to someone else... needless to say I haven't talked to him since and pretty much was disappointed with the way it went down.

I have heard there is actually a version of linux developed for the PS2 by sony for the PS2, where the PS2 would actually function as a (primitive) desktop computer! I don't know if it works on the slim model I have, might have to give it a try.

    • @uny86798
      @uny86798 8 лет назад

+Power Max It wouldn't work unless you install an external hard drive. Some models of the phat have hard drive support thru the network adapter. Sony sold an actual linux kit.

I'm going to buy one of these off ebay as I'd like to play some Japanese PS2 games, plus I received a third party clear blue PS2 shell recently, and the only models which can fit in it are the early ones with the shorter grill on the front, and the PC card bay on the back.

These revisions actually did come with a memory card. Pause at 6:06 with the documentation, and notice the small plastic folder, that's where it was.
Another interesting note is that some models of these revisions didn't have a traditional disc tray per se, but rather an ejecting spindle like what you see in laptops.

i looked at the back of my old ps2 and found out that it had a big ass expand thingy on the back with a modem port and two unnnormally large flat screws, so i took it apart and found a hard disk slot with an hard drive in it, with 80 gbytes of space
    is that normal??

My 10000 Japanese PS2 is all V1.00. I can't get all DVD's to play on it but some North American ones do play on the V1.00 DVD drivers.
If you get the external HDD kit, it will override the DVD drivers on the memory card no matter what. Even with the HDD disconnected, I couldn't get it to play non Japanese DVD's unless I reinstalled the drivers for v1.00 again. Also, if you install the HDD, it removes your language settings to Japanese only and you cannot change them back unless you disconnect the external HDD and then you can change the language back to english or whatever you want, in the PS2 system settings.
My 10000 model ejects so slowly that most often it will not eject all the way (I have to gently aid it when it ejects) when in vertical position. When in horizontal position, it's 50/50 if it will eject all the way.
I use this system mostly for my Japanese PS1 games (I only own all Japanese Final Fantasy PS2 games, no other PS2 game) for the additional settings for disc speed etc... though I'm thinking of getting a Japanese PS3 to play PS1 games with smoother graphics and also on my 4k tv. My 4k tv doesn't recognize any video signal under 480i, which it will not play ps1 games in composite cable setup. I can't recall if they play on component PS2 cables or not, I'll have to try it out again and see.

That's not entirely true. The HDD will only force Japanese if it has PSBBN installed. I have the original HDD OSD installed from HDD Utillity Disc 1.00 and it works perfectly in English. I was also able to install HDD software to a memory card, which is required for SCPH-1x000 consoles.
You are right that the SCPH-10000 will not recognise DVD Player 1.00 when the HDD is connected. However, I don't have to re-install the DVD drivers after I disconnect the HDD. I can just put in the memory card and it works.
About the SCPH-10000's problems, mine has a number of issues:
      The disc tray ejects slowly.
Sometimes the disc tray won't close when I press the button. An extremely light touch will make it close.
Sometime is closes but opens again immediately.
The disc tray won't open when the system is vertical.
The system sometimes doesn't recognise a memory card when one is inserted. Thankfully it doesn't stop seeing it once it recognises it after it is inserted, so no potential corruption of data.
Still, it's a great console to have. The CD laser is really good, much better than my SCPH-30001 and my SCPH-30003. The DVD laser takes about 50 seconds to read a disc, but has never failed to do so.

As we can see, Sony barely changed the pricing for their PS's cause 41000 Yen are just a bit less than 350$ :D

They did eventually drop the retail price of the ps2 down to $199 just before the gamecube and xbox came out in 02. Instant success for sony

+NotOrdinaryInGames The only way I can see that being true is if they crank up the laser power for some reason, and I can see no reason why they would need to do that.

    • @ElBribri
      @ElBribri 7 лет назад

Thats false...HOWEVER using cheap or low quality Blank discs to make backups or copies or whatever and put them in your PS" will wear down the laser, it gets more stressed and forced for trying to read out of low quality discs, not ot mention original disks had the indo were "printed" from factory whereas homemade backups are done via "lens burning to the disk" which is a not as good

I just bought the same version on ebay in a perfect condition, but I don't know Japanese and can't play on it. But FMCB can solve this problem i think. Another problem that this version does not support HDD, only USB game launch with slows and bugs. I heard about some external HDDs with firewire port which could be used for playing but can't find any information about compatibility. Sorry for my poor english.

It's the other way around with me,DS2 are actually very sturdy controller and will last years with careful normal use,one of my that came with PS2 slim I bought in 2014 still works great despite torn and melted sticks button still works great.
I gone through 5 Dualshock 3 in few years due to its spotty quality, stuck L2/R2 triggers, controller that refused to charge or connect to the system, rampant counterfeit ones flooded the market.
You'll see the genuine ones costed almost the same price as Dualshock 4 even to this day.
