- We bought an 8m X 3m polycarbonate tunnel greenhouse to grow more stuff this year. This is a (mostly) timelapse video of us building it with some tips of what we learnt along the way which should be helpful to those looking to buy and build one themselves.
If you want to see how we modified it to hang the strings for growing tomatoes then see this instagram post / byf9mlcg0xi

As you noted in your video, twinwall polycarbonate should always run vertically, because condensation must be allowed to run out the bottom. If it can't, because you ran the channels horizontally, you'll eventually see mold growth that is pretty much impossible to remove. Otherwise, great video! I want to replace the 6 mil poly on our tunnel with polycarbonate one day.
Thanks. Only on one end the panel was horizontal, as it happens nearly 5 years later it hasn’t made any difference.
Thank you for another video!
Well done, looks great
Fab video Gary & Gita - you’ve All been really busy. Feel exhausted just watching!
Nothing new here as expected . Lovely tunnel . Im buyng one .
Looks strong 👍
Great quick video with important tips. New subscriber here and Im liking it already
Thank you.
Great information, thank you for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Cool
Very nice! 🎃
Thank you :)
Great video thank you
You’re welcome, thanks for your kind words.
Could you please make a video of veg and fruit preservation for winter. Thank you.
I have footage of pickling gherkins, will be our next video after the tour which is uploading now.
Great video. :) HAve you looked into no-dig and permacultue? Layering with cardboard, compost and dirt? Saves you some hard work and gives just as good, if not better soil. :)
Hi, thanks. Yes we have and do practice this (see our other videos). It's just when this arrived we had only been here 6 months and didn't have any compost, couldn't get any delivered in bulk and had 50 tom plants desperate for a new home. Coincidentally I've just uploaded a new video on compost and you can see how it's now used in the greenhouse year 2 :)
Baltic Homesteaders awesome. And thank you for sharing.
neat
Hey - Did you not use the metal banding for the outside of the plastic to make it more secure when putting the screws in? I got that when I purchased mine.
Didn’t have any of that must be a new addition, sounds a good upgrade!
Great video Gary. Would you buy this type of tunnel again now you've used it for a while?
In principle yes but we bought it to quickly scale up our greenhouse capacity when we first arrived and I think now we have time I’d probably build a timber frame one covered in polythene to the spec that we needed.
@@BalticHomesteaders Good info, thanks
That's cool did it fix to the frame with screws ?? How much did it cost & do you think it would stand up to 60mph winds ? We live on the coast & get battering winds often through the winter & other times too .Thanks
Hi. Cost was 500 euros, yes it's got screws, they are ok but he washers could be better. Yes we did have some damage over winter and had to tie it down until just a couple of weeks ago. I can't say for sure if it was of the the way we put it together or the product itself. However we've now made modifications and feel it's much better. You can see what we've done in the spring tour video I published yesterday. Hope that helps but feel free to get in touch if you need to know more.
This looks like a wonderful option! Do you know if it holds up to very strong winds?
So far no, it just needs a wash and also I opted to stake it to the ground to better protect it from the wind and it’s been fine since.
and ireland and poland then tunnels
just found your video loved it but I don't have Instagram can you please tell me where you got your greenhouse
Tammy Homan hi, we got it from a Latvian company, where we are. Are you based in Latvia or the Baltics? I think it comes from Belarus originally. I can get precise details if you still want them?
@@BalticHomesteaders I'm in Sweden and would like to know where you go it from.
We ordered it off the internet. If you google ‘siltumnicas Polikarbonate’ you will find various Latvian suppliers. Not sure if any will ship to Sweden.
@@BalticHomesteaders super thank you!
glad to find this video. I know some of these polytunnels show a door on both ends of the tunnel. is that possible with this?
Yes we have a door on both ends, I think it’s shown on the video. Thanks for watching.
How long did it take you to build altogether? Hoping to get a 8 metre by 4 metre next month. Thanks, great video.
A leisurely 2 days with the ground works done beforehand. The time consuming but was translating the technical Russian instructions into a language we could understand :) There’s a video the spring tour next year where I showed how I improved it a bit and pinned it to the ground, worth noting/doing.
Can you share the site you bought the green house
I can't remember but there's lots of websites here in Latvia selling identical ones such as siltumnica.lv/ if you google Polikarbonāta siltumnīcas you'll get lots, all a similar price.
Hey, how the metal parts doing? Does it have any corrosion after 2 years?
Galvanised, still good.
@@BalticHomesteaders Good to hear!
Hi. We are putting up a polycarbonate polytunnel also on a sloped ground. How did you get it level with just using a string line ? Thanks, I hope you can help. I'm basically digging a trench and using a long level. It's quite tricky to get it level.
Hi basically we didn’t get it level. The only real draw back of that was watering was difficult and I solved that by using drip tape and just 2 weeks ago I terraced the beds which you can see in last week’s video ruclips.net/video/TOukeewUO6A/видео.html also I had to stake it down the next year as wind nearly made it take off and that’s worked well since, I think I showed that in the spring update the year after it was installed. Hope that helps.
@Baltic Homesteaders Okay, great, thanks for the info. It's going pretty well with putting up our polytunnel. It's an ecoslider es3 premium - 18 m2.
Please. More videos? ❤🇺🇸
What would you like to see?
hey where did you buy this greenhouse. i want one same one. please share link. thanks x
Hi Preti. We got it here in Latvia and I know it was imported from Beleruis. Are you in in LV too or close by. I can find the website if you like but it would be in Latvian language.
@@BalticHomesteaders Hey thanks. I'm in Chester, UK. I have seen other videos people saying they got it from Belarus. They seem to be popular.
@@srevazulu1066 Maybe there's an opportunity to market them over in the UK :) You're right they are very hard to find. The only place I found them was on EBAY and strangely enough they are sold from Lithuania next to us www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Polycarbonate-Greenhouse-Tube-Polytunnel-Arch-Galvanised-Plastic-Large/223896632782 They do ship to UK. My advice if you do get one is upgrade the fixings that put the PC onto the frame to include big disc washers, it protects the PC better.
@@srevazulu1066 I got one last week from ebay, frame is up now and almost ready for putting on the sheeting. Delivered from Lithuania by a man in a van.
@@srevazulu1066 did you get one?
do you worry about mold green type on the poly?
It gets a little dirty and a quick wash each year solves that. Can’t say I’ve noticed any mold yet but I know what you mean.
Where do y’all live? ❤️🇺🇸
We’re in Latvia.
What did you use for cutting the polycarbonate?
Hi. Just a normal stanly or craft knife.
Do you have an email for buying one
Where are you based? There’s several companies selling them here in Latvia?
The noise is way too noisy; adds nothing
Hi. Which noise are you referring to?
