- The 200mph Maserati MC20 Cielo is one of the prettiest supercars out there with a feisty 630bhp V6 engine but can it play the role of a GT cruiser? Let's find out.

Good to see Maserati have stuck with the traditional glove box that's capable of carrying a whole Weetabix.
Its so small that the manual and service book don't fit in...Unless I'm doing something wrong.
😂
I usually only eat a half weetabix while driving my MC20 so they could reduce it IMO.
@@acs5928 😂
It fits my gloves, does all it promises.
MC20 Cielo has to be one of the best looking supercars on the market right now. It looks stunning in that shade of red.
Super car? Sports car.
@@AB-80Xwhere does one category end and the other start
@@iaintdonknow
In this case it's not that difficult.
Aside from price, exclusivity and rarity, you also have to factor in what cars this compete with. This does not compete with V12 Ferraris or Lamborghinis, or high end McLarens. It does not even compete with V6(V8 Ferraris nor V10 Lambos, nor McLarens like the 750S. This is an alternative to say a 911 Turbo S for example. From my personal experience driving the MC20 on both road and track, it definitely lacks the sense of occasion and theatre that is associated with driving exotics and supercars. Every time I've driven one, I came away quite "meh".
I saw one in black and it was both beautiful and sinister in equal measure... Looked like a Batman villains ride. They're gorgeous in person
Not a fan of red cars, but yes I do agree it's a stunning colour, Rj in Oz
The wheel spin is due to the tyres - Bridgestone and brick-like. I swapped mine to Cup2 and it transformed the car. No issue with getting the power down. I managed nearly 40 mpg on motorway so it's pretty efficient when cruising but the tank is very small yes.
Phew that's a relief. If you paid £300K for the car ,getting decent fuel economy is reassuring.
@@aleccrombie7923 Thanks for your comment. Most cars will come out at £240k-250k, still not cheap but the press cars seem to be over specced for some reason - I don't know why anyone would go for the carbon pack. Agreed the economy isn't really relevant but Harry was implying the car was thistry and it had a small tank but the range isn't an issue.- its good for 200 miles +
Yes, range is much improved with higher mpg. Must be tempting to floor it a bit when touring on A and B roads though. Still, I could put up with more fuelling stops for driving a car like that! Still amazed how nice it looks and sounds. Glad you enjoy it.
I think it has a lot to do with temps as well. The MC20's I've tested had Bridgestones on them, I had few issues with grip, same goes for the 296's I've driven on Bridgestones. If the car here had Cup 2's on it, with those temps it would have been very loose. I've daily driven Cup 2's now for over 6 years on my 488, AMG GTR and other cars. They need to be warm to grip, not late fall weather in the UK on crappy roads.
@@mikehilton1888 Congrats with the car. How`s Robson doing?
Most of us can only dream of owning cars like the Maserati MC20 Cielo. Thanks to Harry, we can fulfil that dream through his eyes ,if not for real.
Nah. Looks nice but 3.0L V6....
Not for me.....I can cruse in my quiet open top cabriolet and get 50+ mpg......Listen to the birds singing or the Floyd or Zeppelin on the stereo. That's living the dream.
@@1970smanwhat have you got a convertible Fiesta?? 50mpg?!😅
MX-5 1.5 ? I had one it was tremendous fun and value@@1970sman
@@andrewstevenson6540 No, not an MX5 although that is a cool car for sure. Mine has four seats, looks beautiful to me and does the job just fine. I often compare it to most so called ‘super cars’ and I think it looks better.
I have to say that most cars that find the most desirable these days are old classics. Most new cars look very boring.
looks way better than any Porsche 911
The back of that car looks so good, kinda reminds of the M600.
There was one of these at local cars & coffee yesterday in almost the exact same spec/color (except on standard wheels), and it really is stunning looking. Like you, I was struck by how bland the interior is - I would definitely expect more for my quarter mil.
A common theme in quite a few of your videos recently is how much time your eyes are off the road while adjusting things in the cabin. Not a good trend with modern interior design. The A-pillars also seem monstrously thick on the MC20 - good in a crash but introduce other safety problems with a large blindspot.
Bland interior, sounds like every modern Aston Martin which btw is still selling for $200,000+. Not sure these buyers care for the interior
If the MC20 has blind spot monitoring then it won't be a problem
Gorgeous car. Probably the best looking in it's class.
Okay, I'm getting on a bit now (57) but have an e-type and 2018 carrera T, so not done yet. I think Maserati are missing a trick here. I went to the classic car show in NEC yesterday. The Maserati stand had one of these, all very impressive. But the most gorgeous car in the whole show was next to it - a 1966 Maserati 3500 GT soft top, just artwork. Do people really care about 0-60 in under 3s? Make a modern 3500.....you'll clean up (in my opinion). Harry, a great video, as always.
The most shocking thing I’ve ever seen in a supercar review is when you drove the Testarossa to France, opened the frunk and pulled out an outboard motor. This set the standard for all supercars in my view and most current models are largely irrelevant to anyone not in possession of a racing license or a palace in the Middle East
Yup. Now, all are purely point A to point A cars.
More like pointless cars 😊
Full of tech n safety features now lad ,move on
Let us not forget the bottles of champagne that kept the outboard from rattling around.
Haters gonna hate 🤷
Supercars are made for millionaires and billionaires. Randos in the yourube comment section are irrelevant to them.
Good to see Maserati back with a bang ! What a beautiful car. Almost flawless.
Yes if you could open the doors in a carpark and not have all the road gunk sprayed down the side of the car from poor designed front mud guard I agree it would be almost flawless.
Apparently the pre-chamber combustion that gives this small engine so much power is used widely in Formula 1 engines, Maserati engineers have managed to make it work in a road car. Hats off to them for trying and pulling that off. Other manufacturers may follow. May even see it trickle down to other cars as I suspect ICE will be around much longer than many assume.
What a car!! And a fantastic review as ever, Harry!!👍🙂... It's a shame they made it so heavy, which compromised the dynamics.. but such is the price to pay for topless motoring. I think Ferrari's 296GTS is the better drop top, but the looks of this car is to die for!! I think I would make the compromise and go for the Cielo!!👍🙂
This car could be pretty fast if tuned properly
just a 3 litre v6 for that money is nuts
I think the coupe is heavy too, Evo weighed theirs at 1,700kg.
The Maserati MC20's It's colour is stunning. Cars that are painted in a colour that is not part of the 'German Rainbow colour palette' that consists of white, silver, grey (150 shades of) or black is wonderfully refreshing.
They were probably quoting the dry weight on this car as Lamborghini did with the Aventador SVJ. The easiest way to get a real idea of a car weight is to look at your V5C document under section G called Mass in Service. I found it to always reflects the real weight of all my cars.
Wow. What a beautiful car. And it always will be. Maserati nails timeless design. The new Maserati GranTurismo looks very silimar to my 2012 GTS. They nailed the look back in 2006 (or thereabouts) and it's so good, they kept it. The front of the MC20 has that signature grille. Well done Maserati. Great video as always, sir.
I absolutely love this car. What a looker. Great video👍
Thank you for another video Harry!
Harry, thanks for your reviews. I always pour glass of red wine, watch your videos and enjoy it as if l were watching a movie. THX Oz
As always, fantastic video! This car more than ever I feel my inner being battling between “gosh that is beautiful - I want one” Vs “I’ll just wait for them to depreciate and will buy a used one”…!
Really...probably not!!😂
I like Harry appreciating the efforts the engineers took to make this engine and get it just right. I am a sort of engineer (software) and that links with my interest in cars from a design and engineering perspective. I find inspiration from watching Harry's videos! I can likely never afford these cars, but I can window shop and learn lessons about design/engineering.
Apparently the pre-chamber combustion that gives this small engine so much power is used widely in Formula 1 engines, Maserati engineers have managed to make it work in a road car. You’re the highlight of my week. You’re time and effort is greatly appreciated.
MC20 Cielo is a stunning looking car, thank you Harry for a joyful ride love your videos.
Always enjoy your knowledge and content Harry thank you sir!
Really looking forward to this one! Would also love hear Mr. Metcalfe’s take on the grecale trofeo and whether the engine addresses his issues with the modena trim level.
To me, it's one of the prettiest cars around
I've been very intrigued by this car & was waiting for the Spyder version to arrive, thanks for another great review, Rj in Oz
Harry isn’t scared to tell it like it is. Bravo!
18 months from now this will be the used car bargain of the decade. 7 years from now the Cielo GTS will fix everything and be the best Mazza ever made, but 5 years too late.
You'd think with all of that optioned carbon fiber, it'd be lighter than quoted, but perhaps they just put the standard model curb weight on there, and did not account for the retractable hardtop. Looking forward to the MCXtrema edition which was recently announced, which will cut the weight significantly and focus on trackability. Another great review Harry and team!
The last time I fell for a car this hard and this fast I was 13. The car was an XKE. Stunning.
They knocked it out of the park when it comes to the aesthetics of this car. Really beautiful
Probably my favourite car of the moment. Really good looking car just a bit expensive 😊
Apparently doing good PCP deals.

My favourite modern car since it came out.
As always, another good investigative car journalism from you Harry. I wonder if how these manufacturers will become reluctant to lending you their car when they've basically lied about the weight. 200kg off their claimed weight is a turn off.
Extremely special and wonderful. Great review.
What a looker! Esp in that colour. WOW!
What's the infuriating bonging sound when Harry accelerates? 'Warning you are having too much fun!'
Beautiful car. I prefer the standard wheels and could do without the carbon pack. It really is a tad expensive though.
Lose the wheels, carbon and paint and the price gets a bit more reasonable
@@andrewbardwell1763 Indeed. 'Bit' being the operative word 😁
Kind of depends on how you looks at it. I look at it as a bargain, better looking, better sounding Ford GT with pretty much identical performance. From that perspective, it's an amazing deal!
@@flyingphoenix113 Or it emphasises how overpriced the Ford is... I respect your glass-half-full attitude.

Every car designer should be required to wash the mockup as a learning exercise.. Love the podcast. All the best. Ian
Love the car, love that they are not just another one of those supercars...
It just needs an extra switch positions on the performance control - relatively easy - if they just added SOFT GT for a driver that was tired or not a 100% switched on - might be useful in torrential rain or snow.
I used to be enamored by Maserati when a kid, love the trident emblem and the awesome sound, now as an adult, that magic is gone for me.
Love the looks and the amazing convertible roof that is glass.
My clear up after Sunday roast is so much easier when Harry et al load new content. Happy Days.
Great video Harry
Such a beautiful car
Has a almost aston look at the rear
Would buy one of these over the mclarens if I ever had the wonga 🤣
Drop Dead gorgeous. Only skilled drivers like Harry need to apply.
Another fabulous review and love your infectious enthusiasm together with attention to detail, Harry. As for the car - beautiful bit of kit but that bong/chime every time you light it up would drive me potty! 😤
Maserati definitely know how to build a beautiful looking car. All while keeping classic Maserati themes (tail light shape, radiator grill) etc.
I love this car, it's simply gorgeous from every angle and has its own character. I also love the new Nettuno engine and how angry it seems. One thing I wondered as you were talking about the turbo noises and strong boost, was boost what the turbos are running. It took some digging, but looks like they push 43.5 psi! And is not setup in a hot V configuration which also surprised me.
43.5psi on 11:1 compression-that Nettuno is not long for this world.
@zachjacobs3337 it's fine with the pre chamber ignition technology. That's how they were able to achieve such numbers, while being 30% more fuel efficient.
I am not a fan of convertibles BUT this is by far one of the most beautiful verts in the market today…. Tad pricey though….
It looks gorgeous in Mazda-red!
The MC20 is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!
Great video, but when are you going to do a video on the F40/F50 😊 a comparison video would be great 😃
Beautiful looking car but cannot get over the price of modern supercars. A quick trawl of Autotrader finds many examples of my dream car, Ferrari 458 Spider, with a naturally aspirated V8, at much more affordable prices.
True, but this is quite a bit better looking than a 458, quite a bit more usable than a 458, and quite a bit faster than a 458. The engine note and the badge of the 458 will forever be tough to beat!
Lovely, but too wide for the UK
Just ballsy honesty showing through.
0:46 THE RED FERRARI, LAMBO, PORSCHE AND THEN THIS MASERATI IN ONE FRAME, WOW!!!!!!!! ALHAMDULILLAH. GOOD WORK MR HARRY!
I agree Harry - totally unsuited as a grand tourer. But at that price it'll be bought by someone to add to their collection in their rotating multi-car garage and they'll likely have something much more suitable for a grand tour. Like a Volvo estate or similar 😄
Wait are you saying Harry is going to buy one? In this color it would certainly fit right in with the Ferrari & the Countach!
😆I'm sure Harry can afford it but from what he said in the review it's a bit overpriced even for him.
I really like these! They seem to have landed with a 'Meh' in the Motoring Press but I think they are fantastic, they seem to be improving in looks as the months roll on!
just a 3l v6 for that money is daft
nah - there's Koeniggseggs / Czingers / Mercs for far more than this with 3 cylinder engines. @@huzcer
I don't think the motoring press gave it a "meh". The standard MC20 landed with very positive reviews. Steve Sutcliffe at Auto Express loved it, as did many others including Chris Harris. Matt Farah loved both versions.
@@huzcer - Is it really? The Ferrari 296 has a 3.0 litre V6 Twin Turbo and is a minimum of £241k list. The McLaren Artura has a 3.0 V6 Twin Turbo and has a list price of £189k. The 2022 Ford GT has a 3.5 litre V6 Twin Turbo and you'd be lucky to pick one up (even used) for less than £700k.
Let's look at the past. 959 had a 2.8 flat six twin turbo and was £150k ish back in 1987. The Jaguar XJ220 had a 3.5 Litre V6 Twin Turbo and was over £470k in 1992.
It's not without precident that cars with V6's commanded huge money in the past and still do.
That back end skittled around like the first launch F80 M3
I saw this exact car at Donnington Park, stunning in person! I recognise the number plate
Whole car is carbon fibre, however you need to pay £75,000 if you want carbon lol
I think that is a fantastic machine - nice than anything from Ferrari. I note Clarkson very much likes them as well.
Yet another wonderful review, Harry - complete with comedy car grounding on the lead out…!
VERY honest review, thank u!
The mode selector seems a little more fiddly to use than Ferrrari's manettino and damper button combo, but the Cielo counters with an indicator stalk. This could be the decider!
Ha! I hadn’t clocked that, I hate the lack of an indicator stalk on current Ferrari
Great review 👏🏻 lovely looking car, best looking supercar since the mclaren 12C. But just a screen and no boot space. Utterly pointless. Actually backwards as the mclaren 12C has masses of boot space, does 35mpg on mway and had better traction, weighs 400 kilos less. All this downsizing and V6 for worse mpg. Crazy
One of the most beautiful cars ever.
Only gone and bought one :-) Thanks for the prompt Harry ;-)
Bit expensive for what you get. I think I would rather have an LC500, it's just as nice looking but has a more interesting engine to me and most importantly it's less then half the price. I would like to see harry review the LC500 I think.
A bit expensive???? You think?
As good looking a car as the LC500 is, if you parked one next to an MC20 it would look positively pedestrian. Half the point of owning a car like the MC20 is the drama, surely? Price will never be logical.
@@Sabrermk42 The interior of the LC500 s pretty damn nice, much nicer then the MC20. LC looks a lot like the LFA in my opinion and that's an even more exotic car then the MC20 I don't think it looks very pedestrian. I do understand what you mean though, I think it's just because the LC500 is more of a GT car and the MC20 is really just a sports car, there isn't anything GT about it.
I'm with you Punisher, the LC500 is my current price no object modern car....love the looks, love the interior....and most of all love the reliability and ownership experience...
You have to be kidding me…lol As good looking my butt
Nice car over priced great video as always Harry thanks
I love that name! *Cielo* means *sky* in Italian, referencing the fact that it's the convertible. What a beautiful looking car!
How on earth did this car get so heavy? I happened to have a B7 RS 4 on my scales recently: 1.742 kgs stock. So a steel v8 awd sedan is lighter than this carbon wonder? Really Maserati?
plastic is heavy
I loved this car the first time I saw it. In 2000 when it was called the Spyker C8.
what a machine nice price Harry...nice looking motor thanks Harry .
Now that's the colour FOR THIS CAR .... AWESOME ‼️‼️‼️
Beautiful! The white\blue color would be my choice. Price is reasonable for what you are getting. Full carbon, 630hp in a really light weight package. Hardtop also I'd choose over the vert. Even though that roof changing is slick. Maserati always has some of the best designers and they pick best power trains.
It's a winner for sure. Though the kicked up dirt requires full clear bra of entire sides of car. It's worth it. Maybe a wrap with some additional coloring on the sides showcasing "Maserati".
Not a fan of the colour and I think the standard wheels look better. For some reason the phrase ‘carbon pack’ annoys me. I think I’d prefer the coupe version in a dark grey metallic.
Sounds exactly like my Guilia. Love it!
So I think if you can't quite afford the 296 you can get Maserati's version! Great review as always as you give us questions to ponder !
Damn that's a beautiful car, and I know the engine is a technical marvel but I gotta say for €300k I'd love to see a V8, but at the same time both the 296 GTB and the Artura have a V6 so I guess we're in that world now
For 300k skip it and get a used F8.

Right now the market in Europe is still softening a tiny bit. What you see are some dealers trying to bump the price a tad because of the spring-summer. And you have to distinguish between priced to move and priced to look valuable. F8 Tributo's currently move at around 250-280 depending. You can get an extremely nice F8 for €300k. And I would also much rather take a 488 over an MC20 any day of the week.

Great vid.
BUT, why can’t we / when are we going to see a review of the new GranTurismo, please?
1/4 mill for a Maserati. Completely insane. You’d have to be.
The MC12 was significantly more expensive in period and is outperformed by the MC20 in virtually every metric. I'd say it's a bargain!
Like the look of these. Great colour on that one.
I like that you can tune the dampening in the different modes.
Impressive car! Great review. I'm making assumptions here, but I noticed you covered the speed readout with a small piece of black tape and it seems you didn't turn off the sound warning for going over the speed limit 😀. The EU regulations are indeed annoying, especially in supercars!
The bong you heard was a warning saying the folding roof wasn’t fully closed when it obviously was! I couldn’t stop it happening and just lived with it. Cars are getting too complicated these days..

Awesome video...thx for the very detail review...this is why people should do their research vs listening to some 5 minutes review.
It's a lovely looking thing, no question. Even if I were fortunate enough to be able to buy one though, I wouldn't do so. I read somewhere recently about the depreciation on the standard MC20, with if I recall a 1000 mile, 1 year old car having lost £100k in resale value (I could have my wires crossed but I think I am correct). Also that bloody awful bonging noise would drive me to distraction. Beautiful but flawed - could almost be Maserati's strapline!
Wait a few years and pick a bargain.
100pc agree. Ferrari is a smarter buy.
They have fallen a lot - most Coupes list prices were about £200-210k and now the prices are £160k ish. The carbon pack was the killer - £35k and you lose nearly all of it on resale.
What’s crazy is the Cielo is on a wait list but the hard top can be had well under MSRP these days
Yes less than 100 coupes in the UK and about 20 for sale. Many owners selling to get the Cielo. Sadly residuals are pretty poor after starting off strongly.
