  • Here is a clear demonstration why Radicals should be banned from Track days and only allowed on Test Days. The drivers are not up to the job and they overtake in ridiculous places like the Apex of Graham Hill at Brands. This guy was obviously a track day first timer but who would let someone so incapable out in a car like that? A menace to everyone else and a danger to themselves. Marshals were due a share of criticism too - they wasn't a single waved blue the whole 2 laps. Later that day the Radical did the same thing again! If you get cut up by a faster car its because they have been stuck behind these kinds of fools.

Nothing to do with Radicals - it was the driver.

you could have easily driven through the pits and given yourself some space. Not everyone is an expert track driver like you.

I'm certainly not an expert at track days, mediocre at best, much less an expert at actual race driving, which a track day is not... But... While true, he could go through the pits and lose his lap (I feel terrible for you guys in the UK for the prices charged.. Robbery..), wouldn't it be better, safer etc if everyone just abided by the rules laid out by the marshalls in the pre event meetings....
Or here's a crazier idea... People could be realistic about their driving experience and get a little better beginners car than mid or high spec Radical...
I know they sell lower spec radicals for us mortals but I've never seen one at track day lol.

Cars BRAKE before they enter a corner after going past the Radical... Who cares what the cost of the track day is, he paid his money he can drive on it. And so what if it was his first track day there and he didn't know the track? If he wants to build a radical to start track days why is it any of your business? So in your eyes everyone should be banned from driving a half decent car on track days until they are experts? He wasn't driving flat out and causing a danger as I could see, just taking it cautious and a little new to the rules maybe. Everyone has to start somewhere and it isn't a race, so why not just chill out and get off of his back? Some guy puts some money and passion into something, then for all you know it's his dream to build that car and do some track days, and someone with a bad attitude like you then hounds him, intimidates him and maybe puts him off? Jesus, why do people always get so aggressive and shitty when it comes to driving...

+Steve BladeSounds still shouldnt be on the track ruining it for others. if he wants to crawl around stick to the road. People go to track days to push there cars to the limits not be stuck behind some prat that drives like a Sunday driver. But if that were me stuck behind it i would of just over took it

The rule here is simple: if someone catches up with you, then you should allow that person to overtake as they are obviously going more quickly. The driver in front is driving badly. This is a day to enjoy oneself - not a race - the objective is to have fun and drive home in one piece. It is not the car, it is the driver. For Radical read any other super-quick vehicle. Or just go into his garage at lunch break and let the tyres down lol.

After half a lap of drag down the straights and slow turns I just lag a single straight on the right and let them go then like magic you have your line back. It's not hard.
Cheaper than starting a 2 car race on a track day and one of you collecting up the other when the tempers rise along with the speed. Did cost me a front bumper to learn that lesson though.

Fair play, it ruins it when other people don't play by the rules, I did a track day at donnington when I had a peugeot 106 rallye and had some tool in an mx5 behaving exactly the same way, I was all over him in the corners and just, just, had a bit more speed in the straight but never enough to fully pass him, so eventually I did what you did and just got my nose in front on the long straight before the start finish straight and carved him up on the chicane, he gradually disappeared into the distance in my rear view mirror.

What's with people having a go at the driver of the following car (poster of the video I assume)? Motorsport is dangerous, someone like this in the radical with no awareness (or care) of what's going on around them isn't annoying, it's irresponsible and dangerous. They should be shown the black flag and reeducated before being allowed back out.

  • @antonhessmangustafsson8309

Shouldn´t be harder than to go and talk to the driver after the session and explain what he was doing wrong, everyone wants value for their money so mutual understanding and cooperation is the key... usualy. :)

  • @silverthorn2151

It must have been clear to you that the driver of the Radical was, at best, a complete novice based only on the lines taken. Not a single apex, not a single braking point. It's a nonsense to suggest that on the basis of this that Radicals should be banned from trackdays. Give yourself a drive through to gain some track space and enjoy the session or pull in and report it to the TDO. And yes, I drive a Radical on track days....but not that one. I do understand how frustrating it can be though.

I am sorry, but this seems obvious: blame the driver and not the car. This is stereotyping and is wrong as it does not get to the root of the problem. Safety is always the first consideration. If an idiot refuses to let you by, wait, or go in. The event sponsors should deal with this problem quickly. If they do not, find another venue.

This is exactly what is wrong with track days. People like you. What if it was his first time on track in a new car? What if he wasn't the driving god that you yourself appear to think you are? What if you exit then come back on track in a different position? Track marshals will wave a Blue Flag (if they're any good) and he should let you pass. There are many different skill levels on a track day. It isn't a race, and people like you, hounding the car ahead and flashing your lights, would normally be asked to leave the track for a period. If I saw your behaviour like in this instance, i'd exit the track and ask the marshalls to black flag you for a while. It's not a race. Everyone is entitled to drive at their ability level. Yes it can be frustrating. If you want to race, go race. Track days are not the place to drive like a clown. Sorry but you're in the wrong this time. Oh and for saying ALL radicals should be banned from trackways? Really? Maybe all VX220's should be banned for having knob heads driving them? Or is that a sweeping unfair statement? Grow up.
