What are YEARN VAULTS? ETH Vault Explained | DEFI, YIELD FARMING

  • So what are Yearn Vaults all about? Also, how does the ETH Vault work under the hood and how can it bring over 60% returns? We’ll go through all of this in this video.
    Yearn Vaults, in essence, are pools of funds with an associated strategy for maximising returns on the asset in the vault. Vault strategies are more active than just lending out coins like in the standard Yearn protocol. In fact, most vault strategies can do multiple things to maximise the returns. This can involve supplying collateral and borrowing other assets such as stable coins, providing liquidity and collecting trading fees or farming other tokens and selling them for profit. Each vault follows a strategy that is voted in by the Yearn community.
    Yearn Vaults were created as a direct response to yield farming and liquidity mining that made searching for the highest yield much more complex than just switching between different lending protocols.

    What a great video. So clear and concise. The only thing I'm still unclear about is how the liquidation works in case of the liquidation call by the OSM. Who does it, does it happen automatically, why is it a risk if there is Dai to purchase the ETH etc? (since the liquidation risk would still be there for all ETH vaults in CDP's in maker relatively speaking)

USDC V2 vault currently 21.30 Net APY v 9.7975% return in the USDC earn protocol - surely one makes the other redundant? or are there extra risks with the vault compared to earn product?

    • @Finematics

      Most yield farming projects are quite risky, so I'd suggest doing a proper due diligence. You can for example use ETH as collateral on one of the lending platform and get stable coins that can be used for yield farming. This is basically what the ETH Vault is doing under the hood. You can also provide liquidity for some pairs that include ETH, but you may be risking impermanent loss.

    Noob here but why do a CDP and not just convert your eth into Dia, then transfer into the curve pool? Why get a maker loan for 1/2 and also subject yourself to the risk of eth falling? Please help me see what I'm missing?

    • @Finematics
      @Finematics  3 года назад +4

      The ETH Vault is used by people who want to maintain their long exposure to ETH. If they prefer to be in a stable coin they can choose the DAI vault instead. I hope this helps.

    • @IsaacWendt
      @IsaacWendt 3 года назад

      @@Finematics Yes it does. But how do they keep exposure to eth while providing liquidity without impermanent loss?

    • @qualityposts2011
      @qualityposts2011 3 года назад

      Isaac Wendt Theycan pull out their ETH anytime they want-so if ETH jump 100% one could pull out their ETH and sell on the open market. If they had to convert it to DAI before entering the vault they would risk losing this exposure.

    • @IsaacWendt
      @IsaacWendt 3 года назад

      @@qualityposts2011 I didn't think they could. It's that why anyone gets paid yield? Because you provide the liquidity?

    • @qualityposts2011
      @qualityposts2011 3 года назад

      Isaac Wendt yes u provide liquidity and in return u get some tokens from that “company” like Balancer or Curve or many others. U then sell these to get “yield”. This won’t last too long, but while it exists take advantage of it

    If the ETH vault is dependent on the performance of the DAI vault, then why is the DAI vault current earning 69% and the ETH vault only 19%?

    • @Finematics
      @Finematics  3 года назад

      It's because of the collateralisation ratio. When the vault deposits ETH to MakerDAO as collateral it can only draw a portion of its value in DAI.
