We always tried to move people toward acceptance of death long before the heart stops beating, Sometimes it’s entirely unexpected like Dr. Mike’s mum. That’s tough to process.
My mom passed when I was 12 - my dad was diagnosed with terminal lung / liver cancer when I was 18. When he was in the hospital, they asked if I wanted a DNR order for him. For one, not something any 18 year old should have to answer, but I asked them if it would do any good to bring him back. When they said no, I said yes, let him go. I learned what death is. I spent the last few hours with my Mom until her last breath. She was very much aware & able to speak. I think this made her passing much more difficult. I witnessed something so profound. I could not comprehend nothingness. Every time you tell this story you grow more and more into a place of reflection and educating. Grieving is a life long process. I'm glad you've reached the stage where you can think of your mom with it ripping away at you. I remember you stating in your original Mother's Day video, that you got a husky because it shared your mom's blue eyes. So sweet. Much love to you and your mother.
Oh, I am so sorry you lost your mom way too early. I am a survivor of ALL leukemia (diagnosed on my 49th birthday). I was lucky -- after an unrelated stem cell transplant (which almost killed me) -- I survived and am now retired at 65 -- also got married at 52 for the first time -- I had thought that my life was over and done with. So, so sorry -- I have had times where I have wondered why I survived (no kids, no significant other at the time) -- the guilt is there. I just discovered you and your your RUclips channel and appreciate your honesty. I knew I had a good oncologist when he took a call during one of my appointments where he was asking another doctor about how he should treat a patient -- I complimented him afterward -- I was glad he said that he did not know, but he knew who the experts were. I had seen too many Ph.Ds not able to tell students or anyone that they "did not know" and were unable to seek out the answers they needed. Bravo! I am sure your mother would be so proud of you!

You brought me closure.. 😢 my dad past away from cardiac arrest when i was 16 I froze & didn’t do chest compressions he was also a cancer patient and old… I blamed myself for his death until now.
I don't know if you'll see this, Mike, but I really, really wish I could hug you right now. I lost my mom to metastatic breast cancer in 2019, just three days after her birthday. When she went on home hospice care, I had a long and serious discussion with her hospice nurse about DNR, because when the cancer had reemerged, it had done so in her bones, and doing CPR would just mean shattering already frail ribs and spreading the cancer around even further. To this date, it is still the hardest thing I've ever had to do, and I'm tearing up as I type this, but I signed the DNR for her. Mike, thank you for sharing your family's story with us.
losing a loved one at a young age is hard, unfotunately I can relate, my own brother passed away this year (he was 16, I was 14) and the process of grieving is diffrent for everyone. The way you 'cheered' up your dad with Roxy is just simply too amazing for words. I am not ashamed to say I cried watching this video.
Omg I’m so sorry, I lost my Poppop last January and I cry very hard for him, Im a very emotional person so watching this made me cry, I’m so sorry for your loss, while this video was a few months ago I just saw it now and I wish I could have given my condolences sooner, you are very strong Mike, she loves you and she’s protecting you
I’m 28 and we are expecting our second son in a few weeks. We lost my mom to cancer this July and I can understand the grief so fresh of losing a mother. I’m forever marked by losing her so early in my life.
First, I love the animation!! So well done and heartfelt My mom died of early onset Alzheimer’s when I was 19. I was not only her daughter but her conservator, as my father died when I was 18 of lung cancer. I had to make many difficult decisions out of love and logic. I had the support of a university ethics professor, friends and my catholic community. But it was still so hard. I finished nursing school after moving schools and to California from Nashville. I worked as an RN for 30 years, had a family and a lot of rescued emotional support animals. I know my mom and dad are proud of the caring work I did. Same for you Dr Mike!
My dear friend Elaine died of CLL. I’m so sorry about your mother. I have heard you speak on other videos and it is so sad to hear how much this loss is still so hard on you. I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer. There is no love like a mother’s love. You are so wonderful Dr. Mike. Sending you hugs and prayers.
I’m sure your mother is so incredibly proud of you. We as an audience are also proud of you for acting as a kind son and empathetic doctor, it sets such an important example. I am entering my clinical CNA training this week. I intend to work in hospice care. This was a video I really needed to see right now, and I appreciate how you make this personal and informative at the same time. Thank you for being such a great role model. There are so many folks I’m sure I couldn’t even speak for to say how you’ve influenced our healthcare careers.
I just found his channel today & have been binge watching. It's no suprise that he doesn't have anyone being nasty in the comments bc everything he & his loving family have been through & came out on top. Watching this channel is like chicken noodle soup for your soul. It just feels right. To all who shared about losing your mother or father, including Dr. Mike, my heart goes out to each of you. ❤
My first husband passed away at 38. I had to call it. They worked on him for 45min and I just couldn't handle watching it anymore. He wouldn't have wanted to be the man he would have been if he came back. He now helps us from the other side more.✌❤😁
I knew this was going to make me ugly cry. Making the call to stop all life saving measures and let a loved one go is the hardest thing I've ever had to do, and I'm thankful that the decision didn't come down to me alone. And Roxy... Roxy is Roxy. She's love and light. And you are beyond amazing, Dr. Mike. I'm sorry for your loss. If it helps you - and your family - millions of people you've never met have got your back. Love and hugs!
I lost my mom 5 days after I turned 15, losing a parent when your young is a difficult and dark time. Im sure its very different when your older. Thank you for being so vulnerable and real.
I really needed to hear this right now. My father passed away early this morning from recurring throat cancer, and I had to help my mom make the call to get hospice care for him just a few days ago. I'm so sorry that you had to go through that with your mom, but I'm so glad that you shared your story.
Deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your mother. Your courage to give your family the straight facts is admirable so she didn't suffer more. When my dad passed away unexpectedly, I bought a puppy for my mom and you wouldn't believe it but the puppy had a rare genetic disorder and ended up passing away. So sad! The breeder was so kind and we were able to get mom another puppy who is now fully grown and still sits on my mom's lap like a big old baby. Animals are amazing. I hope Roxy brings comfort, joy, and unconditional love to your dad.
So sorry to hear about the untimely loss of your mother. You have my deepest felt sympathy and empathy. Your mother was very beautiful. I too, lost my mother too early to stomach cancer back in 2011. She was 69. Just lost my father in 2021 he was 82. My father died of latent dementia and basically a broken heart. He never recovered from my mother's death.
So sweet you got your dad Roxy to comfort him during a dark time in your family. It looks like she helped him heal and be happy again. Legit crying as im typing this! 😭💙💙💙
This is so deeply personal. My heart goes out to him his family and anyone experiencing something like this. My aunt is in the hospital fighting herself. It isn't easy.
Lost my mom to cancer at 23 while in med school as well. It was tough but I finished. However, I realized that I was meant to be more than a doctor. I was meant to be a nurse. Someone who spends more time with the patient at the bedside. It’s a very rewarding job. Thank you for sharing your story. To all those who want to be a doctor to “take care of the sick and make them feel better”. Please consider being a nurse. We are short nurses at the bedside. We need more people willing to really lay “hands on” the sick and help them feel better.
… i am so sorry for you Doctor Mike, its very hard and i can not imagine the pain of losing my mom. I am so sorry for you. Stay strong man! You are a great doctor now. Your mom is proud of you.
This reminds me of when I was in the hospital. At that time I had Covid and I was just chilling on the bed and excited because I’m leaving in a few days, and all of a sudden I hear over the speakers saying “CODE BLUE, CODE BLUE” over and over and I thought that it was just a normal situation and watching this just made me realize what it is. And my grandpa is getting old around 70 and people die around age 72 so, Wish me luck.
Don't push it away or push anything down. Feel what you feel and know that you're never alone and that she loved you more than anything. We're here for you, and remember that you're loved.
Dear Mike, I am so sorry for your loss this is my worst fear that my mom dies and the fact that you went through this is unimaginable my condolences may you and your family have a blessed life
I love that you got Roxy to keep him company. Feeling alone might be one of the hardest parts of grieving. A few weeks after my dad died, I decided to move back home and live with my mum and brother for a while and I believe it's the only reason I survived.
I lost my mom to NASH disease also known as NAFLD when I was about 15-16, and your story really made me feel not so alone in losing my mom at such a young age. And to know you went through that and still became a doctor is really encouraging. Thank you ❤
I lost my dad also due to cancer and it is the worst thing to ever happen to someone to loose a parent. You are amazing to open up about what happened I have only told my very close friend about what happened. But it is the worst thing to ever wish upon someone. You are a legend Mike
I lost my father suddendly due to a brain aneurysm and we need to make the decision to donate his organs. We did it. That was tough. I was just turned eighteen. A year before his death, I convinced him to rescue a dog, I can't describe how much that dog helped me throught that hard time.
I love hearing about your family. I think it’s easy to look at you and think everything is perfect and this reminds us that everyone has a story, a hardship. I also love that you ended this with “say I love you to your loved ones” as not everyone has/had a mom, myself included. Forever obsessed with your channel!
I cried and cried and cried some more. Absolutely sweet of you to think about getting a dog. What an awesome dog God had planned for your family. God bless you thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your story❤. My dad passed away last year due to a sudden heart attack. It shook us and we are still coping with the loss of him, and in some ways your story resonate with me so much 🥺💓. May God's grace and peace be with you!
i know your mum is eternally proud of you and always watching over you ❤ my mum is about 5 to 6 yrs in remission.its never easy watching a family member fighting cancer❤
My mother's mother passed away from cancer when she was 10. Her father didn't want to take care of her and left her with no mom, no dad. Luckily her mom's old husband took her in. She had to do everything herself, as my grandpa Igor knew nothing about children. 40 years later and she now works for a very high paying law firm, and has a living husband and kids, relatives, a bit house, a wine farm, stables with horses and a lot of money. She was Russian too. I get what you are going through, Dr mike. You make so many people happy with your videos. I'm so sorry for your loss
The loss of a mother is very painful, having gone through the entire process of her illness, it greatly affects the family members, good therapy, the gift of a puppy brightens the life of her home.
I lost one of my good friends from Glasgow when I was 17 from cancer. I remember after hearing about his diagnosis and just hoping that he would be free of cancer, but over time, I had become more worried about his situation since I hadn’t heard from him in a few months, but unfortunately, I found out at the beginning of Thanksgiving break 2018 when I found out the he had passed away from cancer on October 13, 2018 at the young age of 18. Although he lived in Scotland and I lived in the States (still do), but we were good friends on Twitter, and he was one of those people who would make you smile on your worst day. I will never forget him.
I lost my mom from colon cancer when I was just barely 17. It definitely doesn’t feel like real life when it happens to you. Everything goes down so quickly. I’m very impressed with how you were able to be there for your dad like that. It sounds like you really got him through it. It almost makes me wish I had been a little older just so I could have given mine that kind of support.
Beautiful woman, inside and out, and you look like her. I'm so sorry for yours and her struggle, and loss. She lived a life of service, to both educating children and raising a family. You honor both your parents well, by being both a great physician and educator! Be very proud. I know we all are!
I’m so sorry for your loss Mike, the fact that you felt comfortable enough to share your story and hers with us truly means so much, and the fact that you had enough strength to keep going and make something out of your life dedicated to help others is truly a testament to how she raised you and how proud you’re making her every day. Oh, Mike, you made me cry like a baby (I'm 62). I lost my mom to heart disease when I was 39, and my world crumbled. I had lost my dad to diabetes 5 1/2 years earlier. Thank you for sharing your story.

I just went through almost this exact same situation with my grandmother about a year and a half ago. It’s so hard seeing them decline so quickly and so fast. Sending love to you Mike and thank you for sharing your story with us ❤️
I will describe a dog for you...although you do not need me to! UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, protection, care and joy 24/7! Roxy is just what the Doctor ordered! As a grandson of a grandfather who succumbed to smoking-related cancers, I can really tell what this pain feels like. It is a type of pain that really never goes away. It just grows with you. I am so sorry, Dr. Mike. I hope they are both proud of us in Heaven (or wherever they all may be).
I'm so sorry for the loss of your mother. Thank you for being so open with us about your mom's struggle with cancer. Your a beautiful person, inside and out.
My mom just diagnosed with breast cancer and it was hard for me being an only child, dad already passed.. I didn't know where to start, where to get money (where I come from chemotherapy is so expensive) But I am optimistic my mom will survive this. Thank you for sharing your story.. It might not be exactly what I'm going through but knowing I wasn't the only child who feels broken is reassuring that I'm gonna be OK.
I lost my dad a couple of years ago to Multiple Myeloma, so watching this was very real to me. Unless you've experienced this kind of loss, you don't know what it's like. I'm so glad you took the positives with you and used them to help you become a better doctor! Thanks for sharing your story.
She was beautiful. So sorry for your loss Mike. I lost mine when I was less than 1 year old. I've never known what its like to have a mom. But I understand that deep hole it leaves in your heart.
This video made me very emotional. I recently lost both my grandparents just a few months apart and seeing what they went through and what my grandpa went through after my grandma passed was awful. I truly don’t know what I would do without my family. Thank you for the amazing videos and all the information you have taught me and so many others! Your mom will forever be remembered! R.I.P 😞💗
😢 My ❤ goes out to you. I was pediatric ALL in 82' and luckily came out the other side, but not without complications (beginning in 2012) due to chemo and radiation received for the ALL. Thank You for continuing and completing your training ... we need compassionate and outstanding doctors in all fields.
Those "Your "enter family member here" is in the hospital. You need to get here asap, are always the worst calls. And when you start getting older and you get more of those calls, it sucks. Yeah, we all die, but it's still depressing. The worst part, so far, for me was my dad dying during 2020 Corona at it's peak and I couldn't even say goodbye in person while he was on life support. (He didn't have Cov, he died of a massive stroke) Basically a video meeting of staff "unplugging the machines"
She was so beautiful! I lost my Mom on December 12, 2011, my only aunt the first week of May, and my Dad the last week of May. It hurts to remember how life was before and how it is now. We adapt. Grief takes its time. I hope each day is joyful and the memory of your mom brings you the love she has for you.
Maaaaan I’m literally crying at my job. I was dealing with poor mental health before I got my dog Frodo. I won’t go into detail because it’ll be 2000 words lol. Frodo helped me have a new lease on life. It went from “I’ll stay alive until he passes” to “I just want to live and bring the light to people he brought me”. He may not know it but that dog saved my life.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds very traumatic. Hope you have been doing well.
@@lyndsaybrown8471 I have, thank you. I miss her every day, but that loss is tempered by the knowledge that she isn't in pain now.
losing a loved one at a young age is hard, unfotunately I can relate, my own brother passed away this year (he was 16, I was 14) and the process of grieving is diffrent for everyone. The way you 'cheered' up your dad with Roxy is just simply too amazing for words. I am not ashamed to say I cried watching this video.
Condolences for your loss
@@melissasheppard6674thank you❤
❤❤❤❤🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗that must have been very tough sending you all my love
You sound extremely mature for your age. And you're not the only one who shed tears watching this video.
My poor cousin lost her dad at age 20 2016 was the worst year for me.
Omg I’m so sorry, I lost my Poppop last January and I cry very hard for him, Im a very emotional person so watching this made me cry, I’m so sorry for your loss, while this video was a few months ago I just saw it now and I wish I could have given my condolences sooner, you are very strong Mike, she loves you and she’s protecting you
The hardest thing about being a doctor is recognising you can'ts ave everyone. You did well, Dr. Mike ❤
I don't know how you managed not to cry, 'cause I definitely got teary, especially at the part where your dad fell in love with Roxy, this one got me
I’m sure he’s done a lot of that between then and now. It gets easier, but there’s an impact on your heart, emotionally, forever.
I became a widow at 26, having to tell the doctor's "stop its time for comfort measures" is the hardest! My heart is with you and your family! ❤️
I’m 28 and we are expecting our second son in a few weeks. We lost my mom to cancer this July and I can understand the grief so fresh of losing a mother. I’m forever marked by losing her so early in my life.
I lost my Mom to cancer in July, too. It hasn't gotten easier yet. I'm so so sorry for your loss.
Dogs can be so incredibly healing and clearly Roxy helped to ease your father's suffering. Way to go Roxy and Dr. Mike
Mike we’re all so sorry for your loss😢. Such a great person and you didn’t deserve it.
I’m actually so so sorry for your loss man, your father loves you and will always look over you in heaven, may god consult you and support you!
Man, so sorry about your loss man.
I am so sorry about your dad. ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss
My deepest condolences to you and your family Mike.
When my Grandparents died, I couldn't stop crying! It's really upsetting when you lose a family member when you're really young.
… i am so sorry for you Doctor Mike, its very hard and i can not imagine the pain of losing my mom. I am so sorry for you. Stay strong man! You are a great doctor now. Your mom is proud of you.
My moms passing from pancreatic cancer led me to become a doctor as well Mike. I’m sorry for your loss
A tragic and beautiful story Mike. Your mother would have been proud.
My dad just got diagnosed with bone cancer and I don't wanna think about what can or will happen. ❤ Sending you positive energy, Dr. Mike. 💫💫💫
Don't push it away or push anything down. Feel what you feel and know that you're never alone and that she loved you more than anything. We're here for you, and remember that you're loved.
yes it's better to let it out ❤
Dear Mike,
I am so sorry for your loss this is my worst fear that my mom dies and the fact that you went through this is unimaginable my condolences may you and your family have a blessed life
I love that you got Roxy to keep him company.
My dad recently passed away, so this video came out at the right time and helped me with my grief. So thank you for this and sorry for your loss.
I cried and cried and cried some more. Absolutely sweet of you to think about getting a dog. What an awesome dog God had planned for your family. God bless you thank you for sharing.
Animals are such a blessing. No matter what you are going through, when you see the love and acceptance you see from them bring so much of comfort.
Thank you for sharing your story❤. My dad passed away last year due to a sudden heart attack. It shook us and we are still coping with the loss of him, and in some ways your story resonate with me so much 🥺💓. May God's grace and peace be with you!
i know your mum is eternally proud of you and always watching over you ❤
my mum is about 5 to 6 yrs in remission.its never easy watching a family member fighting cancer❤
So Basically You’re Grandma Passed Away And I Feel Sorry For You
The loss of a mother is very painful, having gone through the entire process of her illness, it greatly affects the family members, good therapy, the gift of a puppy brightens the life of her home.
Сочувствую потере вашей матери, надеюсь, ее душа покоится с миром и рада видеть ваши успехи и покой вашего отца.
Agreed
I lost my mom from colon cancer when I was just barely 17. It definitely doesn’t feel like real life when it happens to you. Everything goes down so quickly. I’m very impressed with how you were able to be there for your dad like that. It sounds like you really got him through it. It almost makes me wish I had been a little older just so I could have given mine that kind of support.
Im so sorry for your loss.
Beautiful woman, inside and out, and you look like her. I'm so sorry for yours and her struggle, and loss. She lived a life of service, to both educating children and raising a family. You honor both your parents well, by being both a great physician and educator! Be very proud. I know we all are!
You're very brave to discuss your mom's final days and death, especially to such a huge audience. Bravo Doctor Mike. Sending you good vibes.
I lost my dad to pancreatic cancer when I was 25. Your story brings back quite a few poignant memories. Thank you for sharing.
Im really sorry about your loss mike 🙁
they are watching you in heaven and they will stay with you forever mike.
I’m so sorry for your loss Mike, the fact that you felt comfortable enough to share your story and hers with us truly means so much, and the fact that you had enough strength to keep going and make something out of your life dedicated to help others is truly a testament to how she raised you and how proud you’re making her every day. Sending you so much love 🫶🏻
Oh, Mike, you made me cry like a baby (I'm 62). I lost my mom to heart disease when I was 39, and my world crumbled. I had lost my dad to diabetes 5 1/2 years earlier. Thank you for sharing your story.
Dr. Mike, Im old enough to be your mom. I loved your videos and I get such a good vibe from you. Im sending you virtual hugs honey. Just keep being you. 💖
I understand Dr Mike. I lost my dad at 13. I am about to turn 17 and I am ready for lifes challenges. My condolences for your mom. I am also part Russian too!
💖
As a service dog owner, can attest to how amazing dogs are. They can provide a level of care that goes beyond humanity.
I am so sorry for your loss. She'd be so proud of the man you are today. Big love to you are your fam ❤
In bad times, dogs know when we are down and they are right at our side giving kisses-licking us, and healing! I know all about that!
Roxy and Bear are so cute! 😍🥰
I’m so happy you got Roxy, sounds like you all needed her. Thank you for sharing something so private with us. Your love for your family is very touching. Peewoop!
The story of your mom always makes me cry. There is no doubt that she is incredibly proud of the person you’ve become. ❤
Hey Kristina 🌹🌹
How are you doing??
Thank you for telling us this Dr. Mikhail Varshavski❤ My sincerest condolences
(He didn't have Cov, he died of a massive stroke)
Basically a video meeting of staff "unplugging the machines"
I'm so sorry, Mike. we as fans are here for you
She was so beautiful!
Having lost my mother to breast cancer at the age of 12 ( she was 37), and my father in 2015 where I made the decision to disconnect the life support, my heart goes out to you and your family. ❤
I’m so sorry about the loss of your beloved Mother. She would have been so proud of you. ❤
