[Tutorial] How I Do Motion Blurs When Coloring Comics

  • In this video, I'll explain how I do motion blurs in the pages I'm coloring. This is specific to Photoshop, but the principle should work in any major art app with layer masks and blurring tools. Line art by Adam Gorham.

    Cool trick that I use sometimes, too. One thing I do differently, though, is converting the layer that is gonna be blurred into a Smart Object, so I can adjust the blur later if I need to. This also lets you not to make a backup duplicate of that layer.

    I am curious about one thing though. How would you address trapping Line Art for an effect like that?

      I don't do anything to trap inks other than make sure they are black originally. What happens after that I don't consider. I had a good six years coloring before ever learning what it was. Still don't do anything intentionally to address trapping.
      Maybe I'm wrong! :)
