  • In this video, we have discussed the Equity Linked Savings Scheme (ELSS) in detail. ELSS is a type of mutual fund where majority of the fund is invested in equities. ELSS helps you in getting Rs 1.5 Lakh deduction under Section 80C
The following aspects are important to consider before investing in ELSS.
    1. Expense Ratio
    2. Performance
    3. Portfolio
    4. AUM
    5. Fund manager credentials
There are a few common mistakes made by people while investing in ELSS. they are
    1. Making lumpsum investment, just before tax proof submission
    2. Redeeming immediately after 3 years of lockin period
    3. Rushing to buy ELSS in the last moment without proper research
One must keep in mind the following before investment in ELSS
    1. Do thorough research on performance, risk, AUM, portfolio, fund manager credentials, years active
    2. Don’t go for high-expense ratio funds
    3. SIPs are better than lumpsum investments
    4. Aim for long-term. See this as a wealth creation and not as tax saving
    5. Past performance need not reflect future performance

Why is everyone making same mistake. Yes limit is 1.5L,but if you are already paying mandatory pf, So you need pay remaining portion of 1.5L. Every Salaried employee with 13 LPA, would have already paid 75k in PF deduction.

Great content. For time being, by neglecting compound effect, I can foresee we can save the money from long term tax while surrender the shares with partial quantity by pushing into subsequent financial years. Hope you can agree on that and can you suggest how we can minimize on long-term tax by partial close of matured amount. Kindly revert.

Great video. You missed one thing.
    Mechanism of lock in period.
    1. You can only redeem the money invested in the first year at the end of third.
    2. Money invested in second can only be redeemable at the end of fourth year and cycle continues.
    3. It's gets tricky in SIP. For example.
    Jan 1,2022 matures on Dec 31, 2024 &
    Feb 1, 2022 matures on Jan 31, 2025.....
    ....... Dec 1, 2024 matures on Nov 31, 2027.

Yes. You are right. We tried putting in an example, it was getting complex and video became long. So, we had not included. However, we want to stress upon that ELSS is beneficial only in long term, ie. 10 years plus. In 3 years, people may not even get good returns.
