I wonder if Michael Stipe realized how nice of a voice he actually had. He can really sing when he applies himself. In fact, if anyone were to ask me what male singers I like, I would definitely include him.

broadcast date was last week of april, was recorded 10-apr-1991
note this youtube version is a re-broadcast that is missing even more songs but is very nice quality - thanx for uploading!
    here is some more info:
Recorded 10-apr-1991 at Chelsea Studios, New York City
    Original Premiere Date: 24-apr-1991
R.E.M., the band touted by Rolling Stone Magazine as "America's Best
Rock and Roll Band," spent several hours in New York's Chelsea Studios
on April 10, 1991 to tape a one hour acoustic performance for "MTV
Unplugged." Original bands members Michael Stipe (vocals), Peter Buck
(guitar/keyboards), Mike Mills (bass) and Bill Berry (drums), along
with Peter Holsapple (guitar/accordion), perform a memorable acoustic
medley of hits past and present. Song selections include "Fall On Me"
(which Stipe tells the studio audience is his personal favorite),
"The End Of The World As We Know It," "Losing My Religion" and many more.
An excerpt from the MTV Unplugged book... "This may well be my favorite
song in the R.E.M. catalogue.' With those words from Michael Stipe, the
band offered up a heart-wrenching version of 'Fall on Me' that produced
one of Unplugged's most transcendent moments. As he delivered the lines
"Buy the sky/and sell the sky/and bleed the sky/and tell the sky/don't
fall on me." Stipe's pupils rolled back in his head, as if pleading to
the heavens, to reveal only the ghost-pale whites of his eyes.

There was never a world in which this was America's greatest rock band. This is a band that made boomers think they might still be cool. It's good but pump the brakes, tiger.

    • @paullagasse5504
      @paullagasse5504 14 дней назад

Tiger run around the tree follow the leader run and turn into butter ...and yes they were the biggest rock band in the world for a couple of years in the late 80,s into the early 90,s I'd probably say from 89 to 92

Growing up I hated REM. Their songs and videos were so overplayed and so annoying. So affected. So precious. But I do love how pretentious they are and how their fans think they are so intelligent. I love that REM single handedly increased mandolin sales more than any group of all time.
That’s awesome. Also, Stand was the theme song of the greatest tv show of all time, Get a life.
