That Super Mario RPG 2 campaign hurt my head. The amount of ignorance of game development, fan games, and pretty much everything is just astonishing.
The guy was clearly just full of shit and trying to make a quick buck. Either that, or he's insane. I'm leaning towards the latter due to his "honesty," and by that I mean willingness to tell people that he's going to do the worst thing possible to make the game like hire random people using a web app.

Square/enix owns every non-nintendo character, song, location, enemy, all the weapons except for bowser's original chomp and basically all the spells except for terrorize, bowser crush. For this reason there will never be a sequel unless Nintendo manages to purchase the rights to all that. There are a few items that made it to paper mario, like shrooms, syrups, etc, as you cant trademark 'honey syrup'
No jonathan jones, no shark pirates, no axem rangers, no greapers, reachers, star-crusters, chow-chows, bird-people, dodo, etc.
It really really sucks, too, because that game was a freakin' *MASTERPIECE*
Hopefully, since sony isnt doing too well atm and Nintendo is dominating super hard, they may actually end up buying the rights to it all, and we may get a sequel.

similar to how Eminem said there is no relapse 2 coming any time soon I think smrpg2 just isn't in the cards at all only cus Nintendo has so many other original ideas that they want to bring into the future that anything they made in the past is less then likely to get a sequel now I already know Mario strikers got another game but at the same time it's hard ta really say which old games are coming back with a brand new entry or some that dont do to the fact that we just don't know on how or why or what reason do they have for another one right now... would I like to be wrong yes but games like the paper Mario series or a new wario world 2 haven't at all pop'ed up at this point in time so again it all comes down to what Nintendo wants made

I love how Wolfyy7 says he talked to someone from Nintendo that said games like AM2R and Pokemon Uranium were people trying to make a quick few million dollars for themselves... when the games were released... for free. Then goes on to say he was praised for being so honest, and that Nintendo would reconsider. What fantasy world does he live in that he thinks that anyone would believe this bollocks?

He also claims that the games were made in secret. I don't know about those two Pokemon games, but AM2R's development was known for years before its full release.
He actually did get Nintendo to reconsider. For real. He sent them the brown-butter haddock recipe for free and that was all she wrote. Super Mario RPG 2 is in the works, with Square Enix leading it.
They're also going to release it for free and not for millions of dollars like those scummy AM2R and Pokemon hacks. /s

I suppose Nintendo believes projects like AM2R were funded by people, when in reality, Doc never took any money, not even donations. Everyone working on the project was purely volunteer based, and if Doc had to commission anyone, he paid out of his own pocket, not with anyone else's money.
That's the difference. wolfy's got shut down quickly because he was charging money for support. That shit's shady, and Nintendo is all about protecting their IPs and customers (all stems from the crash of '83) from potential scammers like this one.
Unfortunately this kind of black and white mentality does hurt nintendo to some degree because they could utilize people like Doc for their company. Dedicated fans who do pay attention to the series lore should be welcomed in, while also learning to conform to industry expectations. But, instead, they don't and try to cover it up.

You can either get the ROMS for free and play them on an emulator, OR, if you prefer to play on real hardware, buy an Everdrive N8 to hold LITERALLY every ROM leaked to the internet. Even considering that you need to buy an SD, Every game for HALF the price of 72 games is the base definition of rip off. Plus, Unofficial complimations already exist free to download.

Abandonware belongs to no one, and it also belongs to everyone (i.e., a [software, digital] copy for anyone interested, completely free of any monetary charge). Yes, that's not just wrong, it's illegal (AFAIK). I saw this Super Mario RPG 2 on kickstarter. I laughed for a good while after reading the project creators comments to people telling him he can't do this.

For number 3, it's important to look at this from a different cultural perspective. Japan has, without a doubt, the largest mobile gaming market in the world, to the point where mobile games are actually eclipsing traditional console games in both sales and development. It's the reason why a lot of games companies in Japan have just about dropped console games in order to focus on the mobile market (or for certain other companies, the pachinko market. _coughcoughKonamicough_ ). So the existence of the Pico Cassette becomes a lot less strange if you look at it from that point of view. It also highlights the problems with this shift in the industry, since mobile devices are changing and updating faster than consoles ever did, and what works fine one day might become obsolete come the dawn of the next.
TPoseCulture : Also, PicoCassette could indeed store data too, as the mic on the 4 conductor plugs (trrs) would provide cassette -> phone, while the two headphone channels would provide phone -> cassette. Beware that a battery is needed in the cassette, and an app on the phone. Those "square" style cellphone credit card systems are somewhat similar.

Emulation in japan has a bit of a stigma we in the west would consider "an incredibly stupid thing to get annoyed about" and it isn't the one you think it is: it's simply, japanese audiences like physical versions of stuff, they think owning a physical version of something is actually part of experiencing that thing and only recently have digital goods really taken off there. I have no idea why but I assume it's a status thing, "how much do you own?" The physical thing such as a disk or album functions as a sort of trophy. In the west, we abandoned this attitude in the 50s but it's still alive over there.
It's also why it's damn near impossible to find digital music albums for games in japan, they're always physical imports, and for people who don't feel like paying $200 for that shit, you gotta pirate. Makes me kinda angry.
Anyway there you go, that's why japan would see value in this. Because of course they're 60 years behind everyone else.

getting the real mtg experience online is a pain to set up, the ones on steam and the like are way too different and the good one treats the digital cards as physical as a result it costs the same amount to play

Most people consider Paper Mario SMRPG2. Or at least, that SMRPG and subsequent Mario rpgs are a part of a larger Mario RPG series.

Yes, you can send data through the audio jack. I believe Square was the first to do it in order to get around the lack of non-proprietary connectors on iPhone. This is also why some speculate Apple went with wireless headphones, too.

That headphone cartride were you have to gimmicky blow in to start up a famicom game on your iphone or android device was an awesome concept.
I think the headphone jack also works as a microphone input (so that you can use a hands-free system). I suppose that technically speaking software on the phone _could_ read data from the "microphone" in this manner. (I do not know if it needs to be modulated, like the good old binary data in audio cassettes, or whether it can read it in binary form directly.) I suppose that at least in theory it could be technically possible for the game to be in the "cartridge".

This thumbnail is giving me second thoughts about watching this, even though I love your other videos. I feel like Steve Urkel is going to come out next and introduce the TGIF lineup.
I felt like while it was a cool idea in the beginning, the monster that eventually became known as the Coleco Chameleon ended up being a travesty headlined by someone who just didn't quite have his head in the game. From what I had read once (don't kill me if this is incorrect though) the demo units they showed off were just guts from a SNES encased in a Jaguar mold.
I've always wondered why these videos go up on this channel too if they're not by Larry. Not a complaint, though.

1. After hearing about Nintendo's own Metroid 2 remake after AM2R went down the river, this campaign is probably gonna give Nintendo ideas to make a real SMRPG 2.
I know I'm almost a year late, but. SMRPG2 is never going to happen, it would have to be made by Nintendo and Square Enix became Square held rights to certain assets in the original
Nintendo can't make a SMRPG srwyel without the permission of Square Enix who helped with the development and hold the rights.

Underground isn't all that bad a show, it has its fans, just sort of a diet version of the other Sonic cartoon from around that time.

Aaaaaaam I the only one who got mildly irritated when the last guy said that AM2R was a Super Metroid sequel? Cos it isn't. It's simply a remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus with Super Metroid style graphics (as far as I'm aware at least, I haven't actually played the thing but I know quite a bit about it)
It is exactly that. AM2R is an amazing game though. I played it, and I would even speedrun it if I had the patience to do so. It's that good. :3

That extinguish is actually a mis-print, you cannot activate a sorcery on another player's turn so it would be un-usable.

Well, the plug-&-play cartridge is a neat idea, but the same thing can be done with emulator apps that take up less room, both physically and digitally. I guess they was banking on people wanting the tiny carts.

@8:00 YES you can send game data through the headphone jack. It probably sends data digitally through the microphone section of the headphone jack and receives data from the output parts of the headphone jack. I think this might not work on all phones though because often the headphone jack is heavily filtered and might mean the data can't be recognised.
