This will happen naturally when the craft that you're engaged in is ever so slightly too difficult, but driven by a vision (the idea of a potential future). When you are completely focused on transforming matter in to something that you envision, time doesn't even factor in (it only factors in the sense that you'll probably need to stop in 2 hours to walk your dog or something like that).

How blessed you are to sit there and talk to David Lynch. Such a unique human being. His work and view of things truly had a huge impact on my life. I always felt bad because I absolutely hate compromise (with democracy not being possible without it and all..), and what he said there made me feel better :) And I'm gonna print that doughnut saying on a t-shirt. Keep up the great work, Russell

‘Realise the ideas you fall in love with’
    I like that
On mindfulness. Have you ever noticed how you perform better at a task when you’re not thinking about it? Reflexes are automatic, in tune.
That place they call the zone.

    • @mikeexits
      @mikeexits 3 года назад

That's because your attention isn't split. When you're thinking, feeling something unrelated, or focused on anything other than the work/task you're doing, it splits your focus and you can't invest yourself fully. But the flow state becomes natural when your attention is wholly and completely on what you are doing. This is how I get my best work, and it's how I enjoy work.

I was at your show in Hollywood, CA and I AM the Woman who asked a question of Russell first, David Lynch second and Bobby Roth (leading the question) and a great introduction by the Hilarious Jane Lynch!
My question was and still is, "Do you believe that LOVE can SAVE the WORLD?" This question appeared to set the tone for the whole show! I AM still THRILLED about this fact!
My question comes up at approximately 22.43 in the times ng of the video. I AM full of Humility. and GRATITUDE!
I gave Russell a necklace bobble of the World with a sparkling diamond that says LOVE!

He’s right about compromise on a political level as well. The argument to moderation fallacy suggests that contrary to what some people believe there is no compromise between a right and left if they are extreme - there is no compromise between slavery and the outlawing of slavery, or corporate fascism and social democracy.
The compromise between two opposed positions tends to favor the most extreme or violent group.
But the silver lining or whatever is that the majority consensus does not favor slavery, most people do not favor corporate fascism either.
I think he’s right - in a time of peace or democracy we would know the way to go - it would be clear. It is clear.
Even in America where everybody has become so propagandized the majority polls in favor of what works in healthcare and economics in favor of social and economic justice and in favor of compassion etc.
And I also think that art can save the world as they say... I think that that is entirely possible. An album or a game or an amazing novel can save lives and give people the meaning that drudgery labor cannot...

In relation to what they were saying about not judging actions morally, or judging them at all, two segments of scripture pop into focus which -- I believe, at least -- offer significant insight into valuable wiadom:
"A good tree can not bear bad fruit."
Think of a person with a healthy moral compass. They themselves would never willingly compromise their values no matter what they did. To the point that they wouldn't even seriously consider taking any action that deviates from their value system. And values can and do change. Therefore a person is never able to willingly act against their own nature.
Secondly, the tree of knowledge of good and evil vs the tree of eternal life. The metaphor is presented in such a way that explains the rules: it's impossible to eat from both trees simultaneously. Eating from the tree of eternal life means NOT eating from knowledge of good and evil, and vice versa.
Now consider this: the knowledge of good and evil creates judgement. In order for something to be good or evil, something must be inherently right or wrong. In order for something to be "right", you're inherently comparing against a "wrong". True self acceptance, true acceptance of others, true lov.e is without condition. It just exists as a constant. It's given freely. Therefor it's only possible to truly accept oneself (or others) once we separate ourselves from some idea of "right". Ultimately this means we've stopped eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. And thus all fruit that remains is fruit of eternal life -- love -- God.
I'm certain I could have worded this better but I'm rushing it out.

In The Satanic Verses, Rushdie fell in love with the idea of creatively ransacking Islam. In 'saying goodbye' to creative inhibitions he said hello to a backlash from unyielding believers who took offense at their sacred content being parodied and satirized. The Great Liberal Blindspot (often called the Liberal Paradox), in the context here of art, is that all parties MUST share this fundamental(ist) belief in the primacy of the imagination i.e. 'I DEMAND that you be as tolerant as me'. Those self-permissioning artists who metaphorically and figuratively stalk others (because True Believers do not differentiate between themselves and their beliefs) should be accepting of the bounty placed on their heads. Indeed they should wear it like a Crown of Secular Thorns. Anything less introduces asymetric totalitarianism. It's not a catastrophe that artists should risk death for their art. In fact it's rather romantic and would probably weed out a lot of punters.

Love what David says about Compromise. At first I felt myself disagreeing but his final point makes perfect sense... You go with what's best.

I think this is why certain people work best alone and others in teams, I tend to compromise a lot when working with others and this always leads to disappointment, when I do stuff alone I feel the possibilities are endless and there is really no limitation, the end result is pure.

@@MrMadalien I do think compromise is important but finding the best solution between everyone showing common sense is best. not everyone shows sense though thats the trouble.

All i ask is that you give my music one listen. If you hate it you dont have to ever listen again. I produce, mix, master, engineer, rap, and sing all my own music. My cause is deeper than music and im willing to die for it. Thank you - Bryan

David just gets upset when he doesn't have creative control he was heartbroken not getting final cut for Dune then if an audience likes something or not it's not your intended vision anyway. There are many things below the surface and things are not always as they seem and there are many layers are all common themes in his art it's layered.
