I learn more about diagnosing a problem watching your vids. You always stick to the basics and dont get distracted but the homeowners, phone ringing. Steve always saves the day!
lots of people dissing the homeowner here. Dude just wants to know so he can fix it himself next time, get off his back about it hahah.
I'd be just like that homeowner, sometimes the repairman takes too long to come and the house is cold... is always good to know how to troubleshoot some of these problems
If they wanna learn how to do it they should get their gas licence
Thanks again Steven!
Head light can make the job a lot easier. A slight adjustment and everywhere your eyes go, your light goes with both hands free. I've been in the field 25 years and I think you do a good job.
I swear I learn more everyday watching your videos. As a new tech I really appreciate it steve
I just installed my own 90% goodman furnace. Took my time feel like I did a good job on everything. Ran great first day second day flame wasn't consistent and gas valve was clicking. Took me 3 days to figure it out after checking everything my vent was not pitched enough and condensation was building up and pressure switch wasn't closing. I probably saved 3k installing it myself. Furnace works great now and happy I did it myself. I'm not saying all furnace repair / installers are bad but most of them charge too much damn money. I learned how the furnace operates and learned how to install them. If you're handy at all its not very hard to do and I recommend it. Just make sure all your gas fittings are sealed ,tight and leak tested. Check gas pressures on your inlet and outlet. These new furnaces are pretty safe and have fail safes for the gas valve. Don't get ripped off do it yourself.
I have been looking for the rest button for a week. Saw your video and recognized the part. I couldnt see the button till watching your video. I have heat. Thanks a bunch
I am surprised a distributor was open on a Saturday, I am around the Kansas City area no distributors are open on Saturday unless you want to pay $125.00 for them to open the door, on the other hand they are open 8:00 a.m. to noon in summer time only
I like watching service people especially when they're by themselves!!! Things have happened over the years! I won't get into details! I've been thanked often!! Plus, I don't hover right over them, asking a bunch of questions! Oh, great vid as usual, Steve!!
This video helped me fix my furnace, you kept it simple so I was able repair mine, a big Thanks
Nice diagnosis though. But yeah id be at that secondary pswitch checkin volts before i went to a roll out. You would never even get to an inducer starting or even ignitor glowing if rollout is tripped.
Great video on the repair. Propane heating is very expensive though.
Thanks for this, very well done!
The coil is bad on the gas valve. The best way it was described to me when I was going through tech school was that, "If it's receiving its inputs (voltage & gas) and it isn't doing its job, the component is bad.". Any call I go on where I have to condemn a part, I never try to say "I don't know.". The customer deserves a better reasoning than "I don't know.", lol.
Good job on the repair.
How do you like the field piece manometer? Have you used much of there stuff? Thinking about getting a co meter from them...
Thanks for the help. I had the exact same furnace with the same problem. I figured out where my flame sensor is and that it was the problem from watching this video. Thanks mate
Great videos as always love blower motor sound
Your the "Man" Steve thanks for the great video!
You do fine work Steve
The irony it's 2:42 March 17 st Patricks day and I'm having this issue. And it snowed earlier here in Missouri just my luck . I'ma watch to see if I can do something about this
You do not have to remove that plug when attaching the manometer hose, just back it out about 1 turn.
And you can do the conversion with the existing valve
Love listening to the unit owners hang by wanting to know what's up, they want the instant updates, like you are delivering their baby...
lmao
I tell customers they can pay me to find the problem or have a conversation. It takes longer and costs them more if they want a conversation
The part he did really quick, about seeing if any of the switches were tripped, finally got my furnace on.
Typically not a good long lasting solution
Honeywell VR8345M is a good universal valve that includes an LP kit in case you need it. They’re a little pricey but a good true universal fit to save the running around. This is the second time I’ve noticed in a month you’ve needed to run after an LP kit. Good diagnosis though!
Does that valve work with the smartvalve models?
@@realSamAndrew no it won’t. Smart valve must be replaced with a smart valve. However, if your furnace is using a smart valve that has failed, you’d be smart to replace the whole furnace. No pun intended lol.
Straightforward diagnosis and repair
Great Video!
Great video as usual.
Where do I get that spring ? I can’t find one
Good video on that propane furnace!
Nice job as always
What tool is that and brand please
Grandparents had a old Bryant propane furnace when I was growing up. It broke down only twice. Once for a thermocouple and the heat exchanger cracked and did it in. Was replaced with a Ream gas pack which was pure junk from day one.
Steve for future reference the condensate pressure switch activates the gas valve in all goodmans and amana. Also you should check unit with combustion analizer at all time..
Yes, but the igniter would not come on if the pressure switch wasn’t working… in my Goodman the igniter will not glow untill the pressure switch sends a signal the induction motor/fans doing its thing
Why are the Honeywell gas valves so crappy anymore?
I constantly have to replace them
I have a question 🤔 I'm having the same problem with a Goodman furnace fan blower does not turn on but inducer motor ramps up and down until unit locks out because of no flame has been established and there is no flame at all gas valve is on should I put a manometer to read pressures and adjust before I condem a gas valve????
Thanks for the video,
Im assuming the new gas valves have spring ready for natural gas?
Houston we have ignition mama!
I have same exact problem. What to do?
Nice work Molly. I mean Molly’s assistant
Good job sir 👍🏽
Good Job Steven
Good video. But why not shut the valve off to put the plug in instead of shutting power off at the switch?
Steven I need your help buddy. I've been doing these HVAC-R courses on interplaylearning and how do you start the simulations? Just can't figure it out. Thanks pal
Love your videos, the wife says I'm watching RUclips to much. 🤣
Doesn't interplay learning offer customer support for their students?
The "Root Cause" - Goodman.
Will a dirty flame sensor stop it from firing up all together??? I thought the flame sensor would need the ignitor to glow first and prove, then open the gas valve and light the burners and at that point the flame sensor would fail causing it to short cycle?
i love the gas forced hot air videos!
I came across a lot of them style gas valve gone bad after one or two season
You might want to get you a crystal ball, and keep on the truck. They always want to know why these parts fail.
A magic 8- ball are easier to come by.. Lol.!
should have told him something like - 2 pickles fell on the floor, do you know what the one pickle say to the other ?
dill wit it
Can u not try to adjust the old one to get it to work maybe it was a dirty valve can u not open it up and try to adjust it up to see if it's just clogged
Good job checking pressure . Did it call for 9-11” wc.on the furnace plate?
Nat gas is 95% reliable but from my experience propane is only about 80-85% reliable. I have propane now and it froze up 3 times in 3 years. I put a tee and various fittings with a Shutoff in the incoming gas line so now I can check inlet pressure easily.
My valve doesnt have a pressure tap.
I’ve lived in the country using LP for over 30 years. NEVER had that issue in all those years. Maybe you need to find a gas supplier that doesn’t have moisture problems.....
Check the company of where you get your delivery for propane .They need to add a additive to the tank it sometimes have moisture or liquid goes into the regulator and it freeze sometimes it happens when you get your delivery.
good job 👍🏻👌🏻
Good video !!
Yep as a Car mechanic I use to get that why it failed ?? all the time!! My answer very simple they are designed that way on most parts to go at a certain time, Usually just after Hmmm Warranty runs out!! Money maken MOMMA!!
Great video. What size are the brass fittings that screw into the gas valve that I hook up my monometer and where do I get them???
They generally come with your manometer
Chris Walls Home Depot. In the section where they have all the brass parts in small bags. You’ll find nipples and barbs. You can cobble together what you need to keep in your kit with the manometer.
Service man's helper. Ask your supplier for one.
I wanna buy a lavimoniere plumbing hat do they exist?
What if the gas valve opens and still doesn't ignite?
"things break" ;)
There goes another satisfied customer. Peace brother
I’d like to know what the he’ll difference the stupid spring matters from propane or gas? It seems like the makers have it out for the average Joe.
Good job Steve it’s a crusty one mr grinch
great video
Hey Steven, nice to see these helpful videos. I have a gas furnace and it's giving me a weird problem. When I turn the heat on to high, it doesn't fire up then shuts off. But when I turn it on manually with a BBQ lighter. It stays on its cycle only on max high Wich is 30°C. If I turn it down, then the whole furnace shuts off to safe mode. Do you know what could be the problem?
I have some ideas, but did you ever solve it? What was the problem?
My ignitor wont switch over, cleaned the flame sensor thing, tried manually lighting it. Its gone on itsself randomly and ive manually lit it twice. Just wont kick over...
Smh I have the same problem
Dam customers. The best thing they can do is go upstairs and watch the price is right ..
Lol "are you sure" 😂
I don’t mind them if the stfu and let me work instead of asking me questions or giving me what they think it is.
Lmao 😂 that’s true it happens to me to but oh well.
Have a bit of respect. The "damn customers" put food on your plate. Even if I don't like them I treat my customers (at the very least) with common courtesy and respect. It pays dividends.
OEM Honeywells have been cheapened into CRAP! Replaced one this morning, advised homeowner to RELACE 3 year old nordyne with an ACTUAL FURNACE! They should be BANNED for sale in this country! Like a federal pacific circuit breaker, THEY ARE DANGEROUS!
Steve is that the SDMN5 manometer?
I think it is the 5, not the 6 doesn't look like it has a pump.
Thanks Phoenix.
Yep must be the valve. It was installed upside down. Lol
I am Glad my wife has not moved in yet, My has to be a new furnace , it's 30 years old and not throwing no money into this thing.. Minest well buy brand new one
Round and round she goes... where she starts nobody knows. Place your bets gentleman, place your bets! What's it going to be?
6.8”...7.3”...8.5”....9.7”…who's going with 10.5” on the money right out of the gate? 💵💵💵 👍
Never liked to work on a propane furnace. Delayed igniton, bad news.
You need to get a Honeywell VR8345K4809 on your truck.
Make sure you charge him for on job training Steve! Lol
"I know your wife's up there and wants the heat" .. meaning stop bothering the repairman or else..
Put 24 v across the gas valve. If it opens, it’s not the valve.
I used to be scared of them thangs as a kid.
It must be frustrating with the homeowner on your shoulder.
Some people like to know what exactly their dollar is paying for.
And to pay more for his time.
Man, this is gonna be expensive for him. What is the difference between a natural gas furnace and a propane gas furnace? Do the use different parts or the same parts?
You do a TD test? WHY NOT?
Steve you should of told him to GOOGLE " why does a Gas Valve go bad?"
Should there have been an error code for the bad gas valve?
Usually the error will state ignition retry failed our something similar
no error code on this one
The board will only “see” ignition failure. You have to diagnose it from there.
Starts at 0:50
Almost 80,000 subs momma
Never trust what a customer tells you. If you're not checking, you're guessing.
Or a bad ecodimiser
Wife wants the HEAT!
And you better get that heat going or you're going to hear it. It'll be a real shitshow mama.
Not sure which customer question I hate the most...”Why did the part fail?” Or “Do you think it will last another year?”
I thought outlet gas pressure has to be 3.5IWC
That’s on natural. lp is higher pressures
Jumper would've been a lot quicker
Just tell'em propane is under a lot more pressure than natural gas. Puts more stress on the valves.
Oh, I don't know....I usually hang around because the more I can learn, the more I can fix these things myself; I don't know about anyone else, but I can't afford to keep paying these guys $100.00 and sometimes more, just to show up and look at it, not including any repair costs. I'll admit, however, that I don't keep shooting questions at them as they do their work, like this guy did, very annoying. I mostly just observe and make mental notes, with an occasional question if I'm still not 100% clear, but I can usually get it the first time just by quietly watching.
Ok
Nope NO TRIAL FOR IGNITION with any limit switch OPEN! What he just get in the business? The valve is stuck, tap it after coil energizes to confirm! It will fire! Then Replace!
Your thinking with your "craftsman" hat. Wrong hat. Always think with your "entrepreneur" REPUBLICAN business owner's hat. SELL! SELL! SELL!! (Sure he coulda wacked it with hammer and freed it up, but, then, he'd have a callback. Best to dig into the customer's wallet to prevent unpaid callbacks!
Always check other technicians , he is NOT doing good job.
I though gas valve have 110 v
You cant Kill a Goodman!!!
Not unless you have a GMP with the clamshell heat exchanger. Poppin' rivets off mama.
Goodman’s are what poor people or idiots buys
@ 2:12 I'm thinking check for 24v @ valve. Let's continue
6:09 boom goes the dynamite
@@daveschroers4222 agree on the use of a dmm but it does not always show the problem. Rheem tank, a106 error. I replaced the element, thermistor n n eco thermostat. Still locked out on a106
Annoying customer
Too basic
