- Sel roti is a traditional Nepalese donut-shaped (thinner than a donut for sure) bread made from rice flour. During the Nepalese festivals Dashain and Tihar, this dish is prepared in almost all homes in Nepal. Tihar is also known as Deepawali (Dipawali) or Diwali.
Selroti is made from rice flour batter, ghee (butter), and sugar. In this sel roti recipe, I will teach you how to make the best selroti that has been followed by many generations within my family. Usually you can find it in a Nepali store. You can ask for sel roti karai. 👍
Where to get that kind of kadhai
I got one when I was visiting Nepal. Amazon might as well have them. A regular kadai also works but make sure it is not too shallow. All the best!
For how many days we can refrigerate and use the batter or how long sel roti can eaten
I usually use the batter within a day or two for the best taste. 😊

Loved the recipe. I remember watching my boju making that ghiu+sugar mixture. One query - If we add some suji to this mix instead of rice flour in the end, do you think it will come out softer or remain soft till later?
I have not tried with suji but that sounds not bad. Please try and let the community know by replying here. Helping one another is what matters. 😊
Can I not increase the amount of rice in the beginning rather than adding rice flour, if I want to add but don’t have flour how much rice blended would I need to make 1.25 cup flour that you added??? And how many pieces of selroti did you make with this measurement
Will try sugar and ghee mixture batter this year. I will probably add bit of cardamom powder as well (I love the smell of it in sel). Yours look absolutely yummylicious.

You need to let it rest in room temperature for 8 hrs. Let me know how it turns out?

Ah, great question! I usually store them in an air tight container which helps maintain the selroti's softness. Also, if you have big ziploc bags, you could use them as well. I hope this helps! 😍

jasmine rice means biriyani rice ???
It is not. You may use biryani/basmati rice as well but from the cost stand point, long grain jasmine rice is a lot cheaper. Jasmine rice is mainly used to make fried rice whereas basmati rice is to biryani. 😊
