Your example of using it as a self-defense weapon pretty much sold me on it. Great Review man.
Interestingly I evaluate every item's worth in self defence. But I never saw this as a self defence thing, I still don't. A straight punch seems to be a stronger option than trying to damage a face with this. It also doesn't fit well with a fist's angle of approach, it may even turn back on you and result in a twisted wrist.
I think a hammer fist punch would be where the money´s at for self defence@@ChargedPulsar

Agreed, a weapon in these hands are a disguise to hide the actual weapon lol.

Great review, the best of anything I've seen reviewed. 1st day I had the 5", I used em twice, ordered the 4".
They fit in my Leatherman pouch with the charge tti. A really really handy and robust tool 👍👍👍

Great review. U certainly sold me on the pliers.
Tip: Wrapping a small silicon pot holder around the handle will spread out the force and can be used with multiple tools.

I am so into the idea of not using multi tools anymore. Like, this thing breaks, I'm out 20€. My Swisstool pliers brake, I'm out 150.
Most of us carry a blade anyways, some small scissors are also nice and light, a little bit and driver kit is also no hassle to carry.
A nice leather pouch made to fit everything neatly and there you go. As light, no much more in size and arguably even better distributed than a chunky multi tool.
Alright man Good review...now that I've watched the whole thing...i noticed the toughest guy's always Just go own about their business, politely answer questions, never eyeing anyone down or looking for a fight.. You seem like that type, hopefully cheers

Kinda a wierd situation for me but I'm a college student, I don't need pliers for much as I'm not doing anything like that. But for putting a bed frame together, bending something or prying open something these are great

Another thing to bear in mind: Many carry some kind of multitool (SOG, Leatherman, Gerber, etc.) in part because they want to be carrying a pair of pliers. IMHO, only the SOGs -- with their compound action -- incorporate pliers up to my standards. But even if you own a SOG multitool, I think it's actually good to have TWO pliers on many occasions. So, let the second pair be this Knipex tool.

If you are wanting something to turn nuts then the Knipex 86 04 100 Pliers Wrench XS is better and cuter. The KNIPEX Cobra XS 87 00 100 BK tested here is better for pipes and round things.

Was watching some of your older videos Tex and I seen you got lots of Proto stuff and I seen you had the proto catalog. Where do you buy your proto stuff at Tex? And is there a way I could order the proto catalog

Also, my local Malcolm Supply (tool and industrial supply house) sells proto and they will match zoro’s price most of the time.
As for the catalog, proto will send you one if you call them (you pay shipping), or you can get one off zoro.
If you carried these do you think it makes normal Leatherman pliers redundant? Or are there some tasks better suited to a Leatherman?

TexaCajun DIY 5" and 6" have completely different jaws.6" cobra grip is way more better

Wow, the size range of those little boogers is amazing. But your fixation on its use as weapon is bizarre. EDC is more than just weapons. But if I had to choose an EDC tool as a weapon, this would not make my top 5,000 list. Haha!

Seems most stuff doubles as a weapon; cigar cutter brass knuckles, ink pen spikes, flashlights with sharp edges, fighting screwdrivers...
What would some of your preferred ‘tool as weapon’ products be?
@@texacajundiy Chainsaw with a 48 inch bar and a cordless framing nailer? Kidding. But something longer or heavier than pliers. Haha! If you're that close, you're already somewhere you shouldn't be. So the 6 foot covid rule is fine with me. Haha!. While I get it, causing painful soft tissue wounds shouldn't be your goal. They don't help against a determined PCP addict. I rely on space, de-escalation, misdirection, and surprise. In that order.
I've been deployed to some Sh*&hole locations. I learned about taking attention to detail to the next level and keeping your head on a swivel. From checking mirrors a LOT, backing in to parking spaces and driveways, looking for choke points in traffic and crowds, avoiding crowds, choosing restaurant seating with my back to a wall with a view of the entrance, avoiding corners, evaluating the threat potential for and playing "what if" for everyone who walks through the door, and scanning the room for possible weapons, like broom or mop handles, anything with some weight to it, like heavy margarita goblets, cast iron fajita pans, full 2 liter bottles etc for one hit knockouts, cords, light fixtures, hot coffee pots, escape routes, and anyone or anything that looks out of place or out of the ordinary. While it's second nature to do these things now, I don't get adrenaline rushes every time I walk into a convenience store anymore. But I still play the what if game, and routinely change my place in line if things don't seem right.
Again, I get it. You use what you have available. I just found it odd how much time you spent on the use as a weapon for such a tiny tool.
It addresses the EDC market.

@@ChargedPulsar I like it! Just as he's saying, "OOOH, nice pliers!", you catch him on the "OOOH" and break his jaw. In the wilderness, he'll starve to death.

ViceGrip locking pliers has lost much of its credibility as a great tool for the American Craftsman . Soft jaw teeth , inferior tool coating , looseness of jaws typical Made in China products !
