I just received the XR601-1. Waiting for a nice day for install as well as the other components that I see on this wonderful show. Very impressed on the power of this little guy on that Dyno run. Went from less power than my sub can handle to more power than my sub can handle. hmmm.... I am running the XRW12F. These two should pair very well together. Thanks for the Dyno run Dean and Fernando.
I keep coming back to this and will buy the combo. I initially was going to go with 2 alpine S2 subs-600w each and then realized my power supply isn’t sufficient to run that much power. I have a 2012 Raptor with 6x8 3 way component alpine Type R 100rms fronts with tweets both in the door and on the pillar, (obviously), and the same Type are coaxials in the rear doors. I initially powered them with a Memphis 400w x 4 amp. For the subs I had Kicker Comp D’s ran by a 500w Memphis in a small cubes BBox under rear seat box to host the two 10s. It truly sounded amazing with the Kenwood 990HD headunit back in the day. I just dropped a 1000z JVC with Excelon guts in it but sadly only have 50x4 Memphis amp pushing the doors and a 1000.1 black diamond pushing the old Comp D’s rated 250w each max rms. Im just going to go back where I began with only JL 300w rms subs with this amp combo. Dont want the install cost of new power etc. Thanks for giving real life voltage input on these amps, rated means nothing unless you can provide it, and y’all make it possible to really see a real life performance rating, and have sold me on your approach! I wish I could really upgrade but if I just achieve what I had when built 10 years ago, I’ll be more than happy! Y’all are great, push more videos please! 🙏🏼
Awesome little amps, I have the 601 and it puts out good power, nice to see Kenwood broke from the norm with the design, it's a full bridge circuit topology and very nicely laid out. Only knock I had was the color, it looks like it's black but it's not, more of a very dark blueish color which doesn't match with black amps, not a big deal if your hiding it but I like mine on display. One other knock is the placement of the gain and crossover, on the back it's a pain to get to, top mounted would have been so much better.
@@michaelrobison8572 seen your question on the live stream about using the dd1 on the 601, that amp is a full bridge topology design, not sure if the dd1 is seeing something strange because of that or what, I would shoot a message to Tony D and ask him, might be something with that design of the amp, I set mine with a scope and it was super clean and sounds great
dang. that 401 is def. underrated. 75w X 4, ya right. pushing like 140 X 4. That's impressive. The 601 isn't that impressive though, compared to my RF power750, which dynoed at 1,050 < 1%. It's strange that the heat sink in only on 1 side of the amp.
Why doesn't the Kenwood KAC-M1814 put out the same amount of power as the Kenwood XR401-4? They're both 400 watt class D amplifiers. They are also fused differently. Doesn't make sense to me.
I'm wondering the same. There is a Dyno on the 802.5 where they bridged the speaker channels to get the reading on 2 and they were doing over 300w on each channel bridged. It seems the speaker channels are very underrated. For comparison, I lost output when changing from the XR901-5 to the Audiocontrol LC800.4 and got it back when I changed the Audiocontrol for an JL HD600/4. I'm sure the Audiocontrol does it's rated power of 125RMS @ 4Ohms. That leads me to believe that kenwood underrated the speaker channels. The 901-5 also has (3) 40A fuses so that's another indication it might be putting out more than 900watts total.
It's a good amp, it makes plenty of power and sounds good. I got mine used, I think they're overpriced. For the money, I would definitely get the XR401-4. It's not that the JL is bad in any way, its that the XR line is just really good.
Question? So if the Dynamic is lower than the certified or uncertified, so that means low head room but can you actually hear the difference if dynamic was higher.
Have both of these amps in my car having a hell of a time setting the gain on the 601, even using a dd1 head unit is a kdc x304 gain all the way down and distortion light is on unclipped signal from head unit to anp just so confused everything is good on 401 also not a fan of the bass knob no signal till a1/3 of the way up it's a volume knob not a bass boost knob. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks, guys.
From my personal experience with finding that it was normally caused from noise in the RCA’s or from the ground of the radio… That being said the fix I did was add an extra wire from the ground of the radio to the metal bar behind the dash. Try that if that doesn’t work ground the outside of the RCA’s to the chassis of the radio there’s a video on my RUclips channel that goes over this Hope this helps

Where is sub level on the head unit? I have found in testing a few Kenwood double din's that if the sub level is at just +1 there is visible distortion on oscilloscope at 75% of peak volume. When I left it at 0, the signal appeared to stay clean all the way up. Might be different on the KDC-X304.

Why is the mono amp fused for 90amps makes me wonder if it will run below 2 ohm...maybe 1.3 or 1 even

Because most normal people dont have more than 2 subs, its not aimed at SPL competitors
Well warranty replacement is kinda expensive
Because people running these amps are probably more into SQ than SPL and it's small, not allot of room for beefier components that 1ohm would require
