    Beautiful!!! I love it! 😍😍 I was actually planning on making a nest like this, with holes on both sides!! But you did it super well, if I make one that looks kinda like this, I will be sure to refer to you sinse you where the first one to publish 😊 And also, I decided to get a messor colony because of you :D They are so cool!

      Haha, thanks m8, ye when I get em I will do an unboxing i think ;) btw, why dont you name you barbarus colony?
      🤔

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +2

      Honestly, I've never thought about naming the colony. Messor colony is their name ;D
      Maybe I'm starting some pools after the winter, or when they have their first anniversary. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @AntsScandinavia
      @AntsScandinavia 7 лет назад +2

      well, not as for now. But I will comment if I do ;) I mean it would be cool if the name was connected to either their behaviour or maybie their nests.

    Hello, Great nest ! But a question bothering me, the Messor are deemed drills, have you shielded the nest? how to shield Ytong?
    Thank you

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  6 лет назад +2

      Nah, didn't shield it. As long as your ants dont need more space they shouldn't bite through the ytong. Also it's not like from one day to the other, they need time to get through ytong.

    Ytong is tough to find in the US.

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +6

      Did some research on this and there are actually some companies (Hebel for expample) which produce Ytong in the states. But they only sell in large amounts when your building a house or something like that. I've also read Ytong is like forbidden in the US.
      There are also some companies in Canada. Liteblok and Litebuilt. But I think they also would only sell in large amounts.
      The smallest amount to order from China would be one 20ft container completely full with ytong.
      To buy just a single block of ytong in a hardware store is more an European thing.. never thought it would be so hard in the 21th century to buy a Ytong block the US. That's really fucking me up. You can order a LED from china for less than one dollar but there is no chance in getting ytong. wtf :D

    • @josevargas2345
      @josevargas2345 6 лет назад

      Reptile Nexus is there any alternative to ytong you can use

    • @seatbater6211
      @seatbater6211 4 года назад

      @@josevargas2345 a year late but you can use cork instead ^^

    • @JavadMustafayev
      @JavadMustafayev 4 года назад

      I did a research during last few days. AAC blocks is still hard to find in the US except few locations. It is not prohibited in the US, I found few companies who provide large scale sale for buildings/construction. Aercon for instance Florida based company who makes AAC blocks/panels. Since regular gypsum is easy for ants to grind, mixing sand, gypsum and cement which can be found in any Lowe's/Home Depot store will result a strong aerated material. It also will give you an option to make your form of desire without craving.

    How would you heat this nest (and would Messor need it at room temperature)?

  • @thijshoogenbosch5151
    @thijshoogenbosch5151 7 лет назад +2

    Question: If you have a small colony but you have a big nest like this. (Becaus a small colony does not need a big home and maybe they will lay their trash inside the nest) Can you fill some chamber full with sand so they need to dig it out first before they can use those chamber?

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +2

      That's no problem, but the sand have to stay dry, otherwise the ants could move into the sand and use the chambers without sand for trash.

    • @thijshoogenbosch5151
      @thijshoogenbosch5151 7 лет назад +2

      Thank you! I am gonna try it out. Becaus I like too see ant "building" their homes. Also love it when they are at work with construction. With a nest like that there is less too work on. That is why I hoped this could be dont. Danke für eure Hilfe. Grüße aus den Niederlanden.

      If you're from the UK you can probably order the same like me:

    Nice video, and really cool nest!
    I have a question: how do you cut the acrylic? I have some nests too, but I'm struggling with the acrylic.

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +2

      Thank you! I cut it with a utility knife in both sides, after that, I crack the acrylic.
      A video can explain better ruclips.net/video/AsBrJRNvdyA/видео.html
      He only cuts one side, but its way easier to crack if you cut both sides.

    • @AmazingAnts

      I have no experience with australian ants but generell keep them at a dark warm spot, give her rest for 1 or 2 weeks and she should lay some eggs. Check out Ants Australia community, someone there should know this species

    • @sleepless9994
      @sleepless9994 7 лет назад +1

      Amazing Ants yea it’s been I think 5-7 weeks of me getting her still no eggs 🥚

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +1

      yeah, that's way too long. Try feeding her some proteins, small flies for example and some sugar water or honey. Is the queen bought or caught by you? In the worst cased she is not fertilized.

    • @sleepless9994
      @sleepless9994 7 лет назад +2

      Amazing Ants already fed here a bit of honey and just recently put a Cricket leg in, I caught her

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +1

      That's not good, sounds like a not fertilized queen. But like I have mentioned I have absolutely no experience with this species, maybe there is something special you need to know for founding.

    I live in the the U.S and I can't find it here. How could I make my own with out ytong?
    I have a 55 gallon acrylic tank I want to convert but idk how to build the tunnels without ytong

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +4

      you could make a block out of plaster and than make tunnels like in ytong.
      55 gallon acrylic tank? that's really a massive tank :D

    • @j023909
      @j023909 7 лет назад +1

      Amazing Ants lol yeah I had it as an aquarium but I don't trust it to hold water. And I'm thinking of cutting a holeninto my room wall opening it into my closet and fitting it in with a shelf.
      And plaster will work the similar to ytong?

    • @AmazingAnts
      @AmazingAnts  7 лет назад +3

      yeah, it must be really thick acrylic to hold the pressure of water. I've never did a plaster nest before, but there are many people who made plaster nests. just google for it

    • @j023909
      @j023909 7 лет назад +1

      Amazing Ants yeah I had it as an aquarium but when I moved it's taken to much heat changed and kinda afraid to put water ball in it. Ima just make the face and the rest out of foam as a spacer and the top of plaster with a little sand to make an out world
