She is so lovely here. This is probably the best interview I've ever seen her give. She seemed quite relaxed. She didn't need to worry about work. Because she is so good, she will work for as long as she wishes.
We were very fortunate to have had Maggie Smith's great talent at The Stratford Festival for a couple of years. I saw her in a number of Shakespearean works and enjoyed her comedic genius, drama and impeccable timing at delivering a line. She is a treasure.
Such a nice interview, as someone who's performed on stage and a little tv, I agree it's mortifying to watch yourself back! We are our own worst critics. Even A-listers like Johnny Depp don't watch themselves back. It's because we look and sound different to how we think. Amazing to think some of her best work was still to come, Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, The Lady in the Van etc Awesome actress, I can watch her in anything. She just commands attention.
Superb transgenders... hence why they've been afforded their accolades for deceiving the public and all complicit in the BBC pederast, paedophile and child trafficking ring.
Dame Maggie and her final question in this 1993 interview: What will the future hold for your career? ...Should have been answered with, "The queen Bee of a couple major film and television franchises ....?" 'insert smirk'
She is a great actor. I love she's not entirely friendly; very guarded and aloof. However, she does share herself here. Marvellously so. Brava, Dame Maggie. I'd hate to be on the wrong side of her.
My favorite Maggie part is her Desdemona in the Olivier Othello. She is innocent, vulnerable and adoring of her unworthy husband, as well as possessing just a hint of astringency that prevents the role from cloying (as it so often does with lesser actresses) and keeps us firmly on her side rather than getting impatient with the character's naïveté. I would have loved to see her tackle Goneril, or Masha in Three Sisters. In her twenties, she'd have been the ideal Katya in Ostrovsky's The Storm.
A wonderful actor who’s had many roles on film and in the theater. She was marvelous in the movie “Tea with Mussolini” a movie about a bunch of elderly English ladies in Italy before World War Two. While Maggie Smith has been fairly well-known in Britain, I do think she’s always been a bit anonymous to the masses. Not so anymore. The roles as Professor McGonagall and the Dowager Lady Grantham has brought her a unique generational super stardom.
Maggie is a stage actress through and through, exceptionally gifted with timing and during her performances possess a whirlwind of energy and ability to inhabit her entire role hence her fantastic movies Her lack of confidence over herself, I believe came via critics with a vicious tongue who should have used constructive not destructive criticism, therefore, they as critics were not suitable to their roles. Many great performers, suffer or have suffered from the same thing critics trying to destroy them before they have had the chance to prove themselves.
The only actress I know apart from Judy Dench that hasn't filled their faces with a ton of botox and fillers or had a face lift. Goes to show being a great actress takes more than ones looks. Those girls are living proof.
Film 19?? with Barry Norman was such a great show. He had real passion about the movies and a great interviewer. The show was never the same after he left and, it’s final incarnation was just a ghastly BBC woke fest, obsessed with gender and diversity, rather than concentrating on actual talent and merit. Same with any film review programme on the bbc these days.
We were VERY lucky to have Mr Norman as our guide to the world of Film. Very even handed in his critique, hugely knowledgeable about the form. And as you say (and we all saw) a very adept interviewer!
Maggie smith is one of my favorite actors . but please, Maggie, be honest ! the hollywood trash you do for the big bucks and the other work is for love of the script or just to stay active . It is very rare in the entertainment business for workers like actors to tell it like it is . It would be refreshing if for once i could watch a video and an actor honestly say i took that part for the money . i would have the deepest admiration for him or her . I think James Mason once hinted as much but really can't remember

Whatever Maggie Smith does, she is a star. Long may she continue.
To be in your prime 30, 40, 50+ years after beginning your vocation speaks volumes of one's skill and talent!

one of the best actors ever, my life was better because of her ! Thank you Maggie, love you
Her hair looks particularly lovely.

Travels With My Aunt, Gosford Park, A Room With A View, Death On The Nile, A Private Function . . . so much versatility.
A mistress of accents indeed.

She was never that anonymous internationally. She won two Oscars, in 1970 and 1979.
Maggie Smith with Harry Potter and Downton abbey under her belt, she has become a legend. One of the absolute best.

Great actress
She seems like the polar opposite of her characters. Instead of uptight and sassy, she comes off as down to earth and shy.
The iconic Miss Brodie
I miss Barry Norman. I loved his film program. It was all downhill when Jonathan Ross took over - no class.
She would have been great as 'Mame'.
7:58 love it !
She could have been great Queen of Thorn in Game of Thrones... but Diane Rigg was just superb.. two brilliant British actresses...
Little does she know a place called Downton and more corsets are in her future…!
