- Nikki Blakk talks to Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Zacky Vengeance before their free show at the HP Pavillion in San Jose December 16th. Zacky talks about why they had to drop out of the Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival show in Mountain View, CA, his memories of A7Xs first show after drummer and founding member Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan passed away, their relationship with former "Dream Theater" drummer Mike Portnoy, and more.

Around 9 minutes in, when he starts talking about the first show after Jimmy died, you can tell its still hard for him to talk about. Looking around more, fidgeting, biting his nails, and looking down. :( I want to give him a hug.

I was at those shows Zacky was talking about. Bullet for my Valentine was the 1st opening act and they unfortunately had to start with all the roaring boos when someone announced on a microphone A7X was not playing that day, so they extended every band's setlist by 2 or 3 songs and that was cool. But I love A7X so much regardless, and they definitely paid us back and more with the free San Jose HP Pavillion show. I am foREVer a fan : )

Avenged Sevenfold are and always will be my favourite band, and Zacky is such a beautiful beautiful man, internally as well as *of course* externally. As a fan I completely respect their decision to go on a break - and I know as soon as they're back, they will be better than ever.

18:44 it's amazing that A7x freely wrote so many songs in so many different styles as they wanted but still have that very specific a7x color in each song. Even until now in their The Stage record and they embraced their song covers (that included in the deluxe ver of The Stage) in their color too. They're amazing musicians with incredible artistry.

now I finally know what happened between them and Mike Portnoy....that stuff was confusing for some time in the press....and it really was not a clever move from Mike,Avenged did the right thing by parting ways with the man....too bad it ended like this though....he just fit the band in all possible ways,from image to playing ability....would´ve been interisting to see them make an album with Mike as a songwriter!!
Jukkax26 Mike was only ever supposed to tour with them for a certain amount of time. They actually ended on really good terms.

@ChelseaTemptation i was at that show too. almost didn't make it, we had some issues at the boarder crossing. we finally made it through, and would go through all the hassle all over again to experience the most emotional show we've ever been to. we were even crying during the band before avenged, thinking how tough it was going to be. the venue camera man was filming us while we cried and sang along to so far away. we're HUGE avenged fans, and wouldn't have missed that show for anything.

From about 8:55 onwards I felt really sad. It was always a huge loss obviously but imagining it from their perspective. Standing there, still grieving their friend, with a drummer they hadn't rehearsed with, an expecting crowd, and it feeling like their first show ever because it's a different A7x without Jimmy. This was the first show of the new A7x that he's describing. The Rev's death was sad, and that's in the past now I think, but him describing the whole awful scene... :(
They played at the Orion Fest together, and it was AMAZING!!

@VictoryAndVengeance In the interview he explains the time line- They'll play some more shows and then take a break for a few months. During the summer, they'll begin writing a new album and plan to take it as is comes, without a hard deadline to meet fro the new album.

This is why I don't lose respect for Avenged Sevenfold they are so loyal to their fans, they canceled a show and payed for it with a free show.
their best albums always come out like that. not a scheduled process but a group project, its never right to have a specific time for an album anyways. writing material overtime really expresses all of the emotions of the music as they progress.
It breaks my heart to see how broken he is..
