Alex Horwitz here, writer/director of Alice Jacobs is Dead. Hard to believe it's been over a decade since I made this film about an older couple dealing with quarantine. I swear it was supposed to be fiction. Feels more like a documentary these days. I'll be answering your questions in this thread. Hope you enjoy the film!
Love the film! What was your inspiration and why with an older couple? I enjoyed it being an older couple because.... I couldn't imagine being with someone and loving someone for so long... I'm not sure that I would make a different decision from Ben. It was easy to relate to him, and that's what makes this so scary. Thank you for sharing your art with us!
Nice job. Reminiscent of World War Z, (the novel, not the movie). I would love to see this expanded into when it started, how bad it got, then the measures taken to contain the virus. You could also work in how political it could get, like it is today.
I lost my wife to cancer last year, I know that's not what this is about but a lot of the lines hit real hard. Amazing movie, relatable characters, great story.
Wow, this puts a really unique spin on the ‘turning into a zombie’ trope. Normally in media it happens in a matter of seconds, but in this universe you have to wait and wait for the horrifying inevitable.
The naturalistic performances by its lead cast, gives it a suitable grit and grime, and grounds firmly in the real world. The plot is simple enough, but the short film overcomes the shackles of its tropes with pure energy and execution that threatens the situation to get out of hand. Over all a nice short horror as usual. Thanks to the makers and ALTER!!!
I can not... Can not, believe that actress stuffed all that bloody steak in her mouth like that, and was chewing an everything!! That was insane!! She should get an award just for that! 🤯
This was good. Reminds me of the movie Maggie, where humanity has recovered from the effects of the zombie virus but it still exists and they're battling the virus rather than zombies.
This film hasn't even started but I have a great feeling about this one! With the AMAZING Adrienne Barbeau! She's got a couple classic horror films in her illustrious past! Swamp Thing, the Fog, Creepshow are among a few of her films! Then there are her B-films! You know..those really campy horror flicks! Not to mention her comedic talent and she can really sing! Very excited to see her still working and seeing her here on Alter! 😎👍
This film has a good balance of horror and drama. I like the slow build up to the wife 'turning'; as when it happens it is very sudden and unexpected. Great on-screen chemistry between the Dr. and his wife too 👍🏾
I believe if we follow the right workout regimen, eat enough kale, and take the right expensive supplements we may just live forever.😬 Jokes apart, this short is set in situations where humanity is being destroyed by a virus or disease that turns its victims into flesh eating "hungries," as they're called zombies. The film interrogates the possibility that that the kind of blinding, violent fury it causes is something that already exists inside of us, and the virus simply triggers it. Well done!!!
@Quotes H.... Great Summary... Let me just add..... The World Is In A Pandemic......as we are watching this!!! WELL DONE AGAIN, ALTER... YOU NEVER DISAPPOINT!!!!👹
Even though this is from way back in 2009, nice to see Adrienne Barbeau again. She was great in the 70's 80's in horror (The Fog, Creepshow). Cool classic style horror here.
The director and the actors did a fine job, special mention of Adrienne Barbeau's performance. She's so adorably brilliant. This film should have been longer and made into a mainstream movie. Bravo!
This is a well done tragedy with a zombie backdrop. I liked that there wasn't really an obvious moral to the situation. It's clear that he should have fulfilled his promise and his choice is going to lead to another huge catastrophe, but it was also a sadly predictable decision. It was just a small "what if" story of how humanity may end up with a second wave of zombies after successfully dealing with the first. I was engaged even though I'm not a fan of zombie stories in general. I really appreciated the lack of "man is the real monster" style apocalyptic post-zombie world. (I feel like we've run out of original stories to tell set in that type of world.)
This was great, the actors were excellent making this short come together. How great it is to see Adrienne Barbeau in this film, I instantly recognized her. Besides this film I love her character in The Convent and Creepshow.
no matter how many times movies play it out and show the consequences of this, I still believe without a shadow of a doubt there will always be someone too selfish to do the right thing and would doom the rest of the world because of it.
Been watching Alter nonstop😭😭😭 All your videos are so captivating. It's been weeks and I can't seem to watch anything else😂😂 Also not complaining at all.
Brooo, ALTER is defined & definitely changing the game! I’ve been watching nonstop for 2 days now, and there’s still so much content I haven’t seen! I love this s**t 😂
Is that Adrienne Barbeau? I asked myself . . . There is always the mad scientist who wants to keep a loved one alive. It is a recurring theme in horror.
Ooo I love how they time Adrienne's actions to match with White Zombie playing in the background. Especially around the 9:30 mark, when both are in frame and she is standing up almost perfectly in sync.
My burn out symptoms relate to this man 😂 We spend so many hours away from home to make other’s lives better/save lives. Yet I think I would be utterly selfish when the time came, and choose to save a sick loved one, rather than humanity...
The serum won't work on the new strain she has. He was injecting her daily and it became resilient to the drug. So once she bites someone it will be worse than what they encountered the first time around
I ran across this because I watched a terrible (and wonderful) movie last weekend called "Every Girl Should Have One (1978)", with John LaZar & Zza Zza Gabor! Whatever happened to that guy I wondered? That was John LaZar! Because of it, Googling, I ran across the incredibly realistic & well-made horror short "Alice Jacobs Is Dead", co-starring the wonderful and still hot even in zombie make-up, Adrienne Barbeau! Lazar was fantastic. Very thoughtful & understated performance. I've posted this to several FB friends. Thanks for posting this lost gem!
Excellent. A true horror flick, and zombie-based, which I love. So many good films on here (and a lot of stupid, goofy shit as well), but this is the best. Brilliantly done.

That was so cool to see Adrienne barbeau is still active making even short movies, she looks great still.
I got to meet her when she did a mall tour promoting the 2nd season of the Daniel Knauf HBO show Carnivale. She is so sweet and absolutely stunning!
I remember her from Creepshow... back in the day she was really hot though... my friend told me they used to call her "Adrienne Barboobs" haha!
Biggest nightmares for doctors! Unable to save their own and getting themselves killed! This is pure tragedy!
I mean you could see that ending coming from miles away but damn if it doesn’t break your soul watching it unfold 😢
