  • Song of Storms on the 7-string lyre mini tutorial. Song of Storms was composed by Koji Kondo and appears in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask
    Notes:
    - I’m tuned to a 6, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 tuning (these are degrees of a major scale). This is how I typically have my lyre’s tuned. To clarify, the one I’m playing in the video is in B so tuned G#, B, C#, D#, E, F#, G#. Others I’ve played have used a comparable tuning but have been in the key of D (B, D, E, F#, G, A, B; same tuning ratio, just a different key). A similar tuning will be just fine. Leave a question in the comments you’re unsure
    - I drop sections up or down octaves as I play to fit everything within the limited string range of the 7-string lyre
    - There are some occasional squeaks on the strings during the first section. My fingers were dry and created some high tones right before I plucked. Hopefully that’s not to bothersome
I’m playing my Thane series lyre. I’ll build you one as well. See my info
Happy playing! Good luck on your adventure!

You're doing great, amazing! But how do you remake music for the lyre? just by ear?

No, I reference sheet music too. I’ll google for bits and pieces. Then I’ll convert it to my tuning occasionally having to shift notes up and down an octave or omitting notes depending on the piece.

I always worry about breaking my strings trying to tune mine similar to how you have yours

Well know that any similar tuning will work so you can always tune it lower as long as it has the same relationship between notes: first string as the 6th note of the scale below the tonic followed by the second string as the tonic/1st note of the scale then up the major scale from there till you get to the 6th note of the scale at the seventh string (one octave higher than the first string)

Will you be doing any legend of Zelda on your lute dulcimers? Also are you still active?

Could you tune this like an ethiopian krar... im asking as the instrument is very hard to find in the USA , i want to learn how to play and this is the closing thing i seen to it .

Humm, well I don’t have any experience with the krar (though I’d love to play one). What notes would it need to be tuned to to match a krar?

@@missbritt288 I don't think tuning it to different scales from this video would pose an issue ruclips.net/video/aJuXVEIkWNM/видео.html&ab_channel=temesgen.com
