  • Armenian police detained more than a dozen protesters outside a government building in Yerevan on August 8 after they demanded authorities take steps to unblock the Lachin Corridor, the only road linking the ethnic Armenian-populated Azerbaijani region of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.

I don't get it. If Azerbaijan wants Armenians to leave the territory, why would they block the corridor that allows them to leave in the first place? And why would they kidnap 3 people trying to leave? Make it make sense. What is the goal of this blockade, if not murder?

Because arresting people helps to fix the problem?

Well, they torture them and threaten to kill them and their families, then torture them some more. After a while they get bored and kill them by throwing them out a window, or send them home with broken bones and other wounds.
Then some time later they'll go to their homes and arrest them again and torture them again. Maybe this time they'll arrest family members and torture and kill them too.
Sometimes they'll confiscate their possessions and homes and businesses. Or they'll throw them in jail on trumped up charges for 10 or 20 years.
So yes, arresting people in a authoritarian regime does work...

@Sajuuk it was sarcasm. I'm aware of what that entails. People who rule by fear lose that power when anger overwhelms fear.
People will go to war and risk death or mutilation to support their beliefs.
This is a different kind of war. Maybe this courage will stir the conscience of the masses.
I'm lucky not to have to worry about this, so some may discount my opinion.

Can't people do something else with their time instead of stage these little protests? The protests just agitate the situation. Sign petitions, bring them to the local government office. Not everything has to be this.

True, but is what it when you are brought out of oppressive nation. they have some sort of fobia about democracy, mabe just because it's an American thing? We are all human and well capable, some can't seem to recognize the value of life because of there religion.

@nooboftheyear7170 look up Nagorno Karabach. The corridor is the only way in for some. Food and essentials are not getting through.
Russia used "peace keep " it but sent most of the soldiers to die in Ukraine.
Neither side fears the remaining peace keepers

@@nooboftheyear7170When the Kremlin drew up the borders of "internal" states, they deliberately carved through areas with shared culture and ethnicity, so that they could justify having "peacekeeping" troops permanently stationed there. This is the outcome.

That's why the Armenian people don't like to act, that's Karabakh, the land of Azerbaijan, in the end, Karabakh will return to those who have rights, namely Azerbaijan.
