If you haven’t seen Jacob Collier and Snarky Puppy “Don’t You Know,” an analysis/reaction to that would awesome. Some nutty chords in there.

Jacob mentioned in an interview/discussion that this is the most experimental thing he had done and anything past this would ruin the enjoyment for most people. It might have been a podcast with Take 6.

Since you seem very receptive to suggestions, may I suggest you do a video on Jacob's "I saw three ships"? :)

Hello, Manley! It's Manley. No, not from an alternate universe, just another continent. Always a delightful surprise when I encounter someone with the same name. You are only the second I've come across.
Am I the only person in the world who finds Jacob Collier unlistenable? Don't get me wrong, I think he's absolutely brilliant, perhaps even genius-level. But there is a sterility to his sound that really puts me off as if he's appealing to my intellect rather than my heart or my soul. Stevie Wonder was a similar child prodigy with impressive facility on many instruments. I find a depth and a warmth in Stevie's "solo" recordings that I don't feel in Jacob's. I want to like him, but at the end of the day, you like what you like. Wonderful analysis, BTW, and I will dig deeper into your channel.

i think an argument can be made in which not all music necessarily needs to carry some emotion and weight behind it for it to be objectively good. I get that most of his music really pushes the limit and is quite crazy, however, i think these songs in their own right are super interesting to listen to and have unique lines that cross the boundary of conventional writing, which is what the appeal is to most people. Of course Jacob most definitely has other songs that dig more into an emotional side rather than flaunting his musical genius. Songs like Make Me Cry, In the Real Early Morning and Only You are all great examples of tunes that are more tame for his standard yet carry some unique voice leading and chords that aren't as off-putting and experimental as something like the song featured in the video. Definitely check them out if you haven't, as I feel you'll find them more listenable!

Personally I find Jacobs music quite emotionally deep at a lot of times, so I guess we all have different relations to music! To imagine, the expression "Music is subjective" is actually true! Lol

Well, this is far better than the death threats I feared 🤣 After all, RUclips loves its heroes. Thank you both for your thoughtful (and civil) responses. I'll do them justice by listening to the recommended tracks and more with an open mind. Your points are well taken. Some have damned Snarky Puppy on similar grounds, and yet I love what they do. I will try harder with Jacob and see if we can't be musical friends.

Love your Jacob Collier reaction and analysis series! Looking forward to another, but can we get his rendition on Billy Joel's "And So It Goes"? Here's the link below:
