Thanks Bob! I have a 2007 SX4 with 103K miles on it, your video clearly showed me how to access the spark plugs. They were carbon-fouled, I cleaned them, will replace next year. The hardest part of this DIYS procedure was putting the engine cover back on. Thanks!!
Very professional and clear video. Thanks especially for listing the exact tools for the job! I bought my 2009 SX4 with 205K - it'at 209K and I'm taking it to 300K, no doubt. 5 speed manual, my preference. Runs strong and the best part - timing chain engine. Thanks for making this video.
Thanks Bob,just bought a 2007 suzuki SX4 for the AWD as I drive 100kms to work each day in rural Alberta, gonna do the plugs today if it gets above -10 lol.
I still have my 2008 SX4, and just drove it today. Great car! It's much warmer where I am (Washington, DC area), and my garage never gets too cold, anyway. Enjoy your SX4 -- we really like ours.
Had a SX4 ZXi earlier, fantastic car, can get in without having to bend, and peppy enough, loads of space. Got the Fluidic Elantra now, but the SX4 being my first car, i still hold dear (its sold by the way, as my wife wouldn't let me keep two cars).
Thanks for stopping by! Yes, I like my SX4. I wish it had a bit more power, but it is an excellent city/suburban car for the US -- small but holds a lot, and the all-wheel drive is good in weather.
Nice video, thank you. My wife's 2009 SX4 has 128,000 miles on it and going strong. One thing I would suggest is to use some compressed air to blow out debris in the plug well before removing the plug, provided you have a compressor and air gun available.
Thank you for the kind words. I definitely plan to make more SX4 videos. FWIW, I really like my 2008 SX4... it is fun to drive, gets decent gas mileage and has been quite reliable.
Hi. Thanks for your reply that's really cool.. so just a fellow up. I brought a used sx4 hatchback with around 155xxx miles on it, and the only thing it needs is a water pump. I would love to do the job myself but I don't feel 100% confident yet also the mechanic made it seem like it's really complex to do a water pump on sx4 and I have no idea of that's true. If one morning you wake up feeling like doing a water pump on your baby please show us the process I'd really appreciate it. Thank you be safe and I sub to your channel.
My SX4 has 78k miles, so it has a lot less than yours. My water pump is fine, so I have no plans to replace it. But the front brakes are on the list. If I somehow do decide to do the water pump, I'll let you know. I've done water pumps on several cars and they are usually somewhat complicated, but not extremely so. The big problem is that you usually have to get a lot of stuff out of the way to get at the water pump. The pump itself is not so hard, usually.
You are welcome... keep your eyes open for future SX4 videos from me, including replacing brake pads and radiator hoses. I'm also planning to do a video on my favorite hand tools.
Sorry, I do not know the part number of the part you mention. I looked at my car, and there is no number or information on that shield. I looked at RockAuto and did not see a listing for that part. I hope you can figure it out.
I left the plugs gapped the way they were. I really don't know what might happen if the gap is different than stock. Probably nothing, but I just don't know.
I found that there is something in the fuel line. I replaced the spark plugs, then the fuel pump injection pump I'm still getting those hard to start 2 to 3 attempts before it get enough gas . Im lost
Have you replaced the fuel filter? I doubt that's the problem, but it can't hurt... especially if it has 50k or more miles on it. One thing that is free but takes a little time is to go around the engine bay and make sure all ground wires have nice clean metal-to-metal contact. Disconnect each ground wire one by one and clean it with a wire brush. Also clean the bolt that holds the ground in place and the spot on the engine/chassis/body where the ground wire attaches. As I said, it will take a little time. Bad grounds can cause all sorts of difficult to diagnose problems, so it's a great idea to eliminate them as the source of the problem.
main difference I saw was that this cover is an airbox. On the later models the airbox and filter are separate and to the right of the cover which is just for show.

You are welcome. I'm getting ready to make another video that features my SX4, so look for that in a day or two.
Thank you very much, Bob. You're an excellent instructor.
You're welcome... and very kind to say that.

Good suggestion.
Glad I found your page. I'm looking to buy a used sx4 today. Hopefully everything goes well. Your videos well sure come in handy. Thanks again.

Nice Video Bob. ! .. I have a question. what if I set a bigger gap more than 0.044? or smaller gap ? ... have a happy holidays ...thanks
I left the plugs gapped the way they were. I really don't know what might happen if the gap is different than stock. Probably nothing, but I just don't know.
I suggest checking your pcv valve while you have the cover off.
Yeah I did that and cleaned it still saying problem

2011 is very different. No bolts to hold cover. Just yank like hell on the lower right corner to take off.
Does it look the same under the cover?
@@BobKovacs Similar. The plugs are more at an angle and set into the engine a little deeper.
main difference I saw was that this cover is an airbox. On the later models the airbox and filter are separate and to the right of the cover which is just for show.
Especially your car paint is the same as mine
Ha! I would have preferred red or blue, but gray is what they had.
a 5/8 socket wrench on a Japanese car..ok
Whatever works!
