      @@NewJunction The rails lifted out of the sleepers. Had to replace a length of track including dropper wires and regular (unsoldered) joiners. I had to make the fit close so that when it shrinks in the cold the gap won’t be too big 🤔

    Hi, a little tip I was taught at work, when stripping the ends of the wires, if you only partially strip them, then before you fully remove the piece of insulation, twist it & then fully remove it, it makes it quicker and easier to twist the strands prior to tinning them, just a thought, great video.

  • @pennalanetmd7522

    Little thing i always do when soldering wires to rail is to solder the wire to the bottom of the rails as you are laying the track and fixing it in place, this means that you dont risk the wire and solder breaking above rail head height and giving a horrible ride, it also prevents the wires from being seen within the scenery making the track work look more realistic .

    I remember when DCC came out and was sold as only needing two wires instead of all that wiring you needed for all those old fashioned isolation sections and or cab control😂😂 then rewiring all you locos! The more things change the more they stay the same. DC or DCC for any reasonable size layout you've got lots of wiring! Love your modular concept of being able to squeeze a large exhibition layout in your garage.

    I have used this exact method of droppers from ever piece of track. There is only one small section that doesn't have droppers as it is on my high level branch line station where I couldn't easily fit them so instead I have soldered a small loop of wire across the rail joints either side of the fish plate so expansion can still take place, the wire I used was off cuts from Peco electrofrog points.

    Hi Richard,
    A very nice and easy introduction to DCC and yes the more droppers the better as was the case with my Bachmann 03 shunter that with only a few connections would stop and start over points but with a connection to each bit of track and the points was great. I do feel you missed a bit out which was connecting the droppers to the bus wire with solder because the dccconcepts wire strippers you have will strip the plastic back off the bus wire so you can connect the dropper to it but as I said a very nice and interesting video roll on part part 7. Hope you will be at GETS this year and will your GCR layout be back again as was very good last year and it will be nice to see how it has progressed?

    If I was to buy a Hornby DCC controller (like the ones they had in the DCC train sets), would I still need to worry about the wiring?

    • @modelrailwaynoob
      @modelrailwaynoob 2 года назад

      It should work by.just swapping the controller and putting a DCC loco on the track. If you have a big layout, you might find that the loco stops and starts or that sound does the same, hence having more power wires to reduce that risk. I have two exhibition layouts and I just swap the controller between DC and DCC. You can put both controllers on a switch at home to move more quickly between the two.

    • @NewJunction
