@@NewJunction The rails lifted out of the sleepers. Had to replace a length of track including dropper wires and regular (unsoldered) joiners. I had to make the fit close so that when it shrinks in the cold the gap won’t be too big 🤔
Hi, a little tip I was taught at work, when stripping the ends of the wires, if you only partially strip them, then before you fully remove the piece of insulation, twist it & then fully remove it, it makes it quicker and easier to twist the strands prior to tinning them, just a thought, great video.
Little thing i always do when soldering wires to rail is to solder the wire to the bottom of the rails as you are laying the track and fixing it in place, this means that you dont risk the wire and solder breaking above rail head height and giving a horrible ride, it also prevents the wires from being seen within the scenery making the track work look more realistic .

Great video as ever Richard. Keep up the great work and hope you and the family are well Cheers James

I remember when DCC came out and was sold as only needing two wires instead of all that wiring you needed for all those old fashioned isolation sections and or cab control😂😂 then rewiring all you locos! The more things change the more they stay the same. DC or DCC for any reasonable size layout you've got lots of wiring! Love your modular concept of being able to squeeze a large exhibition layout in your garage.
Logically, you do only have two wires, the same signal travels on those two wires all round the layout. The extra droppers are really just signal "boosters".

Really useful this. Literally going through the process of converting my layout from DC to DCC now. Part way through the tail chaser section, but not yet started the shed area - so many points and short pieces of track!
I have used this exact method of droppers from ever piece of track. There is only one small section that doesn't have droppers as it is on my high level branch line station where I couldn't easily fit them so instead I have soldered a small loop of wire across the rail joints either side of the fish plate so expansion can still take place, the wire I used was off cuts from Peco electrofrog points.
Hi Richard good video very informative may have to solder more droppers as my rail joiners look like they are failing ,look forward to next video kind regards Nigel.
Another tip Richard, when u strip ur wires for tinning don't pull the sleeving all the way off, if u leave it on the end of the cable u can twist the wires together without breaking the skin or ur fingers after the 100, just twist the end then pull it off, perfect ends for tinning, no sore fingers 👍

i am going to solder to the bottom of the rail, is there a problem with soldering dropper wires at the exact same point of rail? or should the droppers be offset, I can see here John is offsetting them by a couple of sleepers
