He can be spitting one on autopilot while thinking about the next line, and he can think up the rhyme about two thirds of the way through. Or in this case, maybe even pivot to something based on his opponent’s dumb ass dance move. He also clearly has some things he’s looking for that he can easily include, like what they look like. It’s incredible how reactive his baseline performance is. His normal mode is just head and shoulders above everyone else at these things. And by being so practiced, it gives him room to think up those truly defining moments, like backup dancer. Or it did, until he died. Such a loss.

honestly, the crowd that year was so legit. like actual hip hop fans. they knew when shit was written or straight racist. eyedea used the same filler line a few times in the tournament and still won bc everyone knew he was rapping off the top of his head. the crowd didn't see a white kid in black music they jus saw bars. yet modern PC culture has divided people way more than when nobody gave a shit.
They probably cut the music because they knew all he had was pre-written. They wanted to see if he could think in the moment. He was obviously reciting after that.
