I'd work for you any day of the week. Your squad should feel privileged to work along side you. You clearly know your stuff... Great vid, keep em coming;)
Prefer flat roofs? And lanterns, well they give light but both are more difficult to keep water ingress over long periods unless installed by Robin et al. A pitched roof every time for me.
Great content again Robin, That’s the way I wast showed years ago by an old school carpenter back in my younger days in SouthLondon, saves time and especially if the timbers are over 16ft 😊
Great tip on the firring, I have a 11x5m roof to tackle in the next couple of weeks. Am I right in thinking that you dont need to use a timber wall plate on the inner leaf of the blocks? Instead can you rest the joist on dpc and use a twist strap off the wall (at appropriate spacing) to hold the roof down
What is the hilti saw like compared to the milwaukee fuel? I get excited when my tools break because i get to buy a new one, but my milwaukee tools just wont budge.
Robin mate your craftsmanship is phenomenal! Can I possibly get a quote to construct a single storey roof? With a roof lantern. The roof is 6x7. Thanks.
your work is exemplary and a joy to watch thank you for taking the time to show how work should be done. happy new year and i look forward to watching your hard work this year. 👍
Is the double beam at 4:45 just nailed into one of the triples ? If so whats the point of having a triple? Or will there be a longer supporting beam above the double?
hi robin hope all goes well well for 2024 ....i just love how you weigh up your jobs cut everything to pre assemble ....just one thing to speed up your work ..get yourself an inpact driver ..put your rachet socket to rest 😂😂
I have one but I like to feel that the bolts have bitten correctly and if these over tighten then they can explode or crack the brick, hope all goes well for you to this year Stevie, thanks for watching
My roof is going to be EPDM, OSB, Kingspan wrapped in vapour barrier plastic , OSB, Beams but if I screw through the top to the beams to hold it down every screw will pierce the vapour barrier .... worrying ...
I like the idea of putting the hangers on first, I end up spiking a couple nails through the joists to the wall plate then putting the hangers round after, but then it means being on a ladder putting twist nails in. I’d be interested to see your way of pitching off behind the lantern, I tend to cut a furring piece like a valley rafter and send it to the corner of the lantern. Thanks for the share always learning 👍
im having a sloping osb ceiling in my extension, showing the joists underneath it because the osb and kingspan will be above it. Looks good, and honest to the slope of the roof.
@@DICEGEORGE Agreed. That's what I did but then it's an old house with 'character' so a sloping ceiling doesn't matter. I think we are a bit obsessed with level ceilings.
Good to see you working back on everyday projects Robin, most decent chippies would prefer to work on 1st class jobs with huge budgets but as you know, life isn't like that mate. Good experience for 2 mt Edd too. I've retired now enjoy watching you and maybe 3 other carpenter/joiners doing the job properly. I am so embarrassed I didn't know the firring trick!
Imagine being the builders working on next door's extension, only to see Robin and Ed rock up to do the neighbours. Pressure on! 😆
Would love to see the rest of that build. Like you said, very popular in this country. Many of us would like to know how you approach it all.
Would love to see the whole process of the roof construction as technical as possible... Is it a warm or cold roof?
Bloody freezing. They haven't even put the insulation in.
@@ricos1497 🤣
Love the firring tip. Ill teach my apprentices that at college next week!
Awesome!!
Rumour has it that Robin cut the wood so straight that the laser level switched itself off
🤣💯🤣
🤣
Never a video where I don't learn anything. Awesome content as usual. 👍
100% agree. That firring strip tip was so simple but something I've never thought off. Genius!
I was always told to do two inches to nothing on flat roofs , your four inch is much better, well done chippy 👍
I'd work for you any day of the week. Your squad should feel privileged to work along side you.
You clearly know your stuff...
Great vid, keep em coming;)
Look forward to seeing the rest of the build 👍
Great work. You make it look so easy. I guess with this extension, they wouldn’t get the pitch for a pitched roof!!
Love you approach Robin , you really simplify the process and speed the job up, time is money as they say !!!

Rob I’m a month away from finishing my level 2, flat roof will be my final project (doing a cut with a hip atm), your vids are a massive help, cheers!
Hi bro, good luck with your final project!!! welcome to the brotherhood!!

Super work as always Robin!
Robin, you and your guy's work ethic is next level, out there crushing it every day! 😎
Only one man gonna build my new house! RC amazing as always..

I must be dreaming I'm sure I saw you do a video like this before cutting furring strips 😀

How you cut that ferring strip blew my mind

Loving the format. Firings and eye opener😊
Hello Robin, Hikoki circular saw no longer good or Hilti is better? Great video as per usual.
Love this basic stuff and calm videos! Great work!
Happy New Year to you and Ed! Great Video!
Absolutely Amazing !!
Super video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
great tip for the fall
Did you set out for ply or plasterboard ? I wish the uk would make its mind up 😂
Is the double beam at 4:45 just nailed into one of the triples ?

Or will there be a longer supporting beam above the double?
Hi, how did you close cavity wall?
When will the hinge jig be back in stock
Any tips on a flat roof on a 4 meter by 4 meter single story extension but the corner i want a 2 meter by 2 meter corner bifold with no corner post
Great information. Quality work Love the music. Ed's choice or RUclips's algorithm?
Bit of both!!!
Awesome carpenter/roofer
Thank you Joe.
The hangers on the back plate are taking a lot of weight do you need special hangers?
Enjoyed this thanks!
How do you create a run off for the water between lantern and house wall?
Bump
Could somebody please answer
Robin, why not get rid of that terrible rough cast?
Quality as always 👍🏻

great video cheers
Better muted due to the choice of music
😍
Hi bro!! Good to see you in the comments
Robin you could have a job for life, just fixing flat roofs . . .
💪👍
This took about 8 months, not 8 minutes !
Why soffit so deep
It's a feature that acts as a canopy over the rear wall
@@ukconstruction 👍🏻
more details please vid should have been 20minutes
What’s the point of the music.
I believe you were supposed to start dancing.
The fact that the music was absolutely shite was a little prohibitive in that regard however.
Isn't the placement nailer a great invention... ive got a pneumatic one.. its a great bit of kit definitely saves you beating the finger nails off 😂😂
Out of interest, rather than using long furing strips, why don't you just tilt the joist by a small angle. PS not a builder ;-)
Because the ceiling wouldnt be leval inside if you tilted the joist
Yeah I just had an upper extension on the old ground floor one and the whole roof had to come off because it was not level as they tilted the joist.
Can have sloped joists but just need firrings above the plasterboard... Flat with firrings on top is easier.
