malmsteen has been really quiet science this dropped
HA! He's one of my favorites. In fact his song "Evil Eye" is where I first heard this technique and made me want to learn it years ago.
Yngwie scared the shite out of every guitar player when he hit the scene. We all knew he was the king of metal guitar.
@edbernardmusic3599 he's a fucking monster. Always was one of my top favorite players, along with Vai and Satch.

@lubyou1853 well, that's an added bonus, but he was just there with me and the video was a quick idea...

Awesome \m/!
Nice. My dad played, too. It's how I got started playing.

Damn that was super clean and precise. Awesome stuff man 🙌
Thanks alot.

holy shit
I wish i could play a guitar like this pal. That's awesome speed....
Just try it. Takes time.
@@levimaynard2237 sure i'll try it.
Seems i have some problems with my right hand or with the picking tecniques.
Cause my pick always stucks in the strings if i want to play faster.

HAHA. Thanks
Didn’t know Jackson made a tele-body style. Sick riffin’ friend
This is a custom guitar. But jackson did make some (charvel) in the 80s...
@@levimaynard2237 that’s a beautiful guitar man. What are the specs if you don’t mind me asking?
@johng92 It has a poplar wood body.Custom wound pick ups, Wound to my specs by odezza custom pickups, floyd rose, Jackson kelly neck.
holy hell that is sick man. playing over 200bpm is just impossible to me.
this is sick! how long have you been playing for?
23 years.
@@levimaynard2237 That's cool 😮
Cool man!
So, any tips or just build up the speed on the metronome little by little? Like, wrist movement/tension, focus more on accenting one note always at the start of a section. Anything really that could help.
Asking as a fellow guitarist who is playing for 12yrs + and still feeling stuck on the technique lol
Yes. Just realize at different tempos you will need to use different muscle groups. Slower speeds, use thumb and index/wrist for picking. Moderate speeds use more wrist focus. Higher speeds (240bpm+) incorporate elbow by flexing bicep and using the tension that gives you, make small strokes out of it. Find your speed limit for each technique... for me my top speed is around 280bpm but it's not easy and I'm taking 16th notes too... if using triplets you don't need the elbow at all.
Awesome shredding! Insane! BTW is that a Duncan Screamin' Demon in the bridge?
It's a custom pickup set by John Gorentz "Odezza" pickups. It's my own set called the Catalyst in the bridge and Synergy in the neck. Or the Synergy set.
Awesome God Bless In Jesus Name ❤🙏🏼
For some reason my RUclips video sped up randomly at the end
Hah. That's funny!!!
Я не уверен, но выглядит как игра предплечьем, учитель рекомендовал кистью .
When I play speeds above 230 bpm 16th notes, I have to incorporate the elbow into the mix, but it's a combination of wrist and forearm, not all forearm. In any other situation, I'll use wrist and even just the thumb and index controlling the pick. In this video, I'm using wrist only until the 3rd level of speed.
Also, just because the arm is moving a little doesn't mean the muscles are being engaged.
thats amazing
Thank you
Now do 2 strings! :)
:)
@@levimaynard2237 I never was good at the alt picking stuff because I got so into Van Halen that I just relied on my left hand more and did the hammer/pulloff stuff. Then I heard Yngwie and Paul Gilbert and thought... wow. MAB is great too but not really digging his style much. Looks like a really cool guitar. I love natural looks with wood grain.
@@TruthSurge honestly my left hand is where I use most of my faster playing. This video just showcases a single string pattern and its derived from Yngwie's Evil Eye. Just a practice mode really for subdividing the timing. So i am with you there. Good points.
@@levimaynard2237 yeah, there's so much to try to learn. I watch a guy like Anton Oparin do string skip picking at insane speeds and just get depressed. hehe my desire for learning comes and goes... mostly goes. heheheh
@@TruthSurgeSteve Morse - Tumeni notes comes to mind when I think of crazy string skipping......... Insane. Just have to practice the shit out of it. Non stop.
Wow nice shredding, i assume pure altrnate picking is always down up down up etc, even when changing strings, i guess depending on the pattern played there can also be a hybrid/alternate picking, whereby when moving strings a sweeping is used to get to the next string and then the note is picked in the same direction as the sweep. all this is dependent on the fretting pattern being played and the number of notes played and the starting stroke, either up or down , anyways great stuff mister!
You have it right.
When you start going into Legato, things change alot. But, this video is purely to showcase an exercise in subdivision from 8th/12th/16th notes.
Wow 🎉
Beautiful tele
Thank you. It's a real good player.
Is this a partcaster? The guitar its sooo cool the gold floyd rose plus the unpainted body is a nice touch
It is a parts caster. Poplar wood body, jackson kelly neck, floyd rose special, Odezza custom wound pickups. Plays really good.
Dope
Thanks.
🤘
i will give you the keys to the lamborghini 🔑
HA!
@icankillbugs yeah... haha.
at which point is it considered a tremelo?
Wikipedia answer - If the technique is performed at high speed on a single string or course voicing the same note, it may be referred to as "tremolo picking" or "double picking".
tremolo is when u are repeating notes. and it would still be done alternate picking typically. alt picking is just the motion of down up down up. imagine if he played this and kept the exact same speed but repeated every note 4 times a click instead. that would be tremolo. but it would also still be alt picking
@@idk9637 exactly.
Repeating the same note is tremolo. Whether picked or not.
Well I think if he was repeating the notes instead of playing and syncing them with each stroke of the pick then it would be tremolo but tbh this whole topic is a little subjective
Sounds like something off Yngwie’s first album
Evil eye is the inspiration....
pretty impressive :o do you have any tips for improving shredding speed (both picking and fretting hand) besides consistent practice?
Play it really slow first. Then work it up from there. Do the sub divisions to get the speed increase, using a metronome on the same setting the entire time, like i did in the video. Make sure your picking technique is consistent whether is slow or fast. Once you get going faster, you will use much smaller movements and fast twitch muscle. At some point you will have to use some elbow in conjunction with wrist. For me, its mostly elbow driven at really high speed, flexing my bicep and forearm, holding the pick tight. When going slower though its mostly wrist and thumb/index doing all the work.
@@levimaynard2237 Those are some nice tips, I'll be keeping them in mind
Cheers
Is that a Jackson you're playing? If so very interesting body style
Its a Jackson Neck, off of a Kelly model. The rest of the guitar is Frankenstein though. Tele Body made from Poplar wood. Custom wound pickups, floyd rose.
@@levimaynard2237 nice!!
Cool as hell
Wizardry
Coming from the wizard himself. Thanks kev.
How do you get so fast at this? I can't even play cliffs of dover and i've been playing for like 7 years now
If you want to go fast, you have to start with one side or the other - The left hand, or the Right. If you want to PICK fast, you can develop that on individual strings, like playing the Low E string. Using a Metronome of course, starting at a decent tempo like 150 or so, and going for up to 4 pick strokes PER beep. Raise the Tempo gradually as you get better and cleaner at picking it. For traversing the NECK with your fretting hand fast, its the same Idea. Start with a speed you can play comfortably. IF you don't know any scales at all, it will be hard to develop fretting hand speed. Learn Major and minor scale patterns on individual strings (easy to find scale charts showing this). Once you get the scale pattern memorized on one string, PICK each not with ALTERNATE picking. Use opposite pick stroke direction for each note. Down/Up/Down/Up. Hope that helps!
@@levimaynard2237 I'm going to try this out, I've never tried to practice each hand individually. Thanks.

This is a cool video but the metronome is slower than 250bpm unless you mean the subdivision is 250bpm but your subdivisions are faster.
Your technique is great and you're really good but I opened a metronome to check and everything that isn't set to it.
Oh you're playing double time. That makes sense nevermind.
Haha... at least you got it....
But where is the string skipping? 😅

Custom built tele shape with jackson kelly neck, floyd rose, custom wound pickups. Only 1 of them.

Why not....
What your guitar effect processor ??
No processing at all. Running into a Dean Markley signature series 60 All tube head, into a 2x12 cab with celestions from a spider 3 and a boss katana. Pedals pushing the front of the Amp for more gain are - soul food drive, then azor dog distortion. Then time based effects in effects loop of amp... using a mic to record - SM57 on most videos. This one however is just live audio through phone...
Secret of good picking - is a real tube amp 😄
pleease tell me how you practice
Just like in the video. Use a metronome when practicing if you want perfect timing. Otherwise, I just noodle on scales and arpeggios to get the hands moving. Sometimes, play to backing tracks. Other times, I will record some new stuff for my instrumental music.
I’d rather listen to Gary Moore play a few notes with some feeling. Sure, it’s a technique and it’s skilful but is it musical ?
It's not the most musical thing. Never said it was... check out my music. maybe you'll find something more musical. Thanks for commenting! ruclips.net/video/geSzzZUWgEc/видео.html
